2002 Focus Overview

Righto, better place for this info as requested by Dlow18:

Ford Focus 2002 manual 1.6 specs (rpm approx.)

torque: 100bhp @ 4000rpm

power: 145 Nm @ 6500rpm

fuel: 7 ltr/100km

The rest of the kit as described in the media review is all there as far as I can remember. For once, just too many extras! AND there's a mirror on the driver side sunshade. Can't figure why that's so rare.

It's a sweet deal, although I did find the pickup not as immediate as I'd like, or maybe I just wasn't revving it hard enough. a bit paiseh to push the test car! and also can feel the hesitation after not driving for some time, driving like auntie... [crazy]

btw, how do I do a private message? can't find the way for that.

The Focus 1.6 is a decent car to drive around and push once in a while [;)]

Too bad the 1.8 or 2.0Zetec is not available.

Push the test car as much as you like! No that we want to be mean but it's the best opportunity to test the overtaking and mid range torque of the car. Usually low and mid range is used on Singapore roads for city driving and highway overtaking. [:)]

Thanks for the numbers! Next time push the test car, else why call it a test car? [;)] Trust me, with so much money at stake, you really dun wanna bet on the wrong car! Everything that's said and heard about Focus has been very good far, I guess the only thing for me to do now is to set foot on the pedals!

Agreed, compare $80k plus for a car versus what you earn in a year net, its impt to love what you buy man. And to do that, better think and rethink, test and retest, etc and etc until you are satisfied with the findings that what you decide will be a wise choice. [;)]

The Focus is heard to be a good car, to me, its probably a matter of whether you can stand that raised kah chng (rear) or not. Or if u are getting the hatchback - then I would vote that as the best looking hatch around at the moment.

I dun really mind the "kah chng" since I will have more bootspace. Yesterday, someone was asking why I need a roomy car since I am swinging single. The reason is my car will probably be my 2nd home. That's why I am looking at a mid range car with a little bit more space so that I dun feel so confined. That should also explain why I need to enjoy driving it since much time will be spent in it. [:p]

Will need to find out if the engine performance is the same between the hatch and sedan. I know for one the price is slightly different. So will check it out tomorrow. [cool]

Must push car, otherwise, how else would you find out how it performs? Do sweeping turns, quick u-turns, handbrake turns, donuts (ok kidding), emergency stops on straight and bends etc. As an example, I considered the Octavia classic vs the focus, until i found the octavia squealing & sliding when slowly going around the paya lebar airport circus. Here's the joke, they won't let me try the car on hiway (want to test 40-80, 60-100 pickup) until I place a booking fee!

I had quite a different experience when I test drove the Oct 1.8T. I was specifically asked to take corners and the PLA circus at 60kmh. I was even encouraged to go round the circus 2 - 3 times just to get familiar before I speed up. Infact, even drove the test route 3 times within the same test drive. Something which was offered without my asking. In comparison, I could see that the other car dealers were more interested in getting back asap. But I did not ask to go on the hiway though.

I just read in another thread that there's a possibility that some cars which were supposed to be undergoing servicing was infact placed in the showroom and used as test cars. If this is really so, it may explain why JTA did not allow you to drive on the hiway ... less risk!

I wonder if different salesman had different instructions? I was attended to by different salesmen during my test drives, and it was during the Octavia Classic where I was declined the highway portion.

If the test cars were actually cars undergoing servicing, then does it mean that they were customers' cars? I sincerely hope not, because there are a whole lot of implications :-O

By the looks of it ... it certainly seem so ... else the owner would not have complaint about the questionable 56km registered on the odo. Go to Skoda website and you will find a complaint where owner said his odo has been tampered with as it showed 0km at car collection. How is this possible? Unless the car has been heli-lifted from factory to ship in Czech and thereafter from ship to JTA in SG.

Interesting enough, this is what I have observed. My 1st test drive was in Sept 01. When I test drive again in Jan 02, they had a completely different set (diff colours) of test drive and showroom cars. Wonder why and how is this possible?

Did they sell their showroom / test drive cars? Is this why some buyers were quickly given their cars when they complained about late delivery ... but if they were to compromise on colours ... they could get one immediately?

I hope this is just due to "road testing" after servicing. But I agree with you on the 0 km reading.

I was once offered a test drive car some 10-15 years ago, discount of $1K. It was one of the first 1.6l cars with ABS. But I declined, since I know how the salesmen used to encourage prospective buyers to slam on brake to engage ABS.

So, perhaps, the older test drive cars were sold (hopefully at a discount and with full disclosure) to those who wanted their cars NOW!

Hello,

I'm about to place an order for a 4-dr Focus. Can anyone advise what freebies I can negotiate for ? or anything I should look out for ?

Thank you

See what they already provide with the Focus and negotiate further freebies like better audio, leather, reverse sensors, sport rims, etc. Then it's persuasion of your sales exec to agree to these freebies. [laugh]

Actually I have a choice whether to go RM or dealer 'cos I have been to both. Which one offers a better package or does it make a difference ? in my experience, the dealer offers better service.

I heard from Mondeo that the 5yr warranty on the Focus does not include maintenace whereas on the Mondeo it comes with 3yr free maintenance in the 5yr warranty.

I got myself the auto 4-door Focus. I got it from SLSKarl. I find they provide better service than RM.
