Recently my bumper kena dented, but i've managed to knock it back in shape. Now all i need is a respray. But prob is how do i touch up the unevenness and peeling? [confused] Simply spraying it wouldn't work i think.

I could send it to the workshop of course, but i wanna DIY for fun... hehe...

DIY respraying is a sure recipe for failure unless you have prior experience in spraying paint. Sending it to the spray shop shouldn't cost you more than $100 for a touch-up.

I did it for my previous car to touchup my rear bumper after some "close encounters of the wall-kind" after a PG track day. What you need is grit 1200 fine sandpaper, plastic primer, paint of your choice, top clear coat lacquer and 3M fine cut rubbing compound. Use the sandpaper to remove the unevenness, do not be afraid to sand down to the plastic. Use water and a little dish detergent to wash the area clean and dry it. Mask off the areas you don't want paint on and spray 2 or 3 light coats of primer. After drying, spray on 2 to 3 light coats of paint and then finally spray the clear coat. Finally use the rubbing compound to remove overspray and to try to blend the new paint to the old. The last few steps like the clear coat and rubbing compound is optional if you are not bothered about how the repair looks. Lucky in my case the area is rather large so it was harder to spot where the new paint starts and where it ends. But its very hard to remove all the overspray completely. Job best suited to be done on a long weekend where you do not need to use the car. But frankly speaking, after doing it once, I wouldn't do it again [:p]

not advisable to DIY if urs a new car... I DIY mine when it got some scratches (top coat gone)....

U'll need stuffs like paint coat, clear coat, sand paper fine grits 1200 or finer, polishing compound (liquid type), lots of water, a good polish, and plenty of time.... most likely during stage of applying paint & clear coats, u gotta complete then over a period of few days (in order to let each coat dry thoroughly before the next layer)...

Sheesh, I've only got experience spraying Tamiya model cars, not the real car. Sounds v difficult to me, think i'd rather send it to the workshop...

Yup..we have our weekly Friday evening meetups. And like what Gadgeter said, we talk about anything under the sunny.gif. There are a few jokers to liven the place up so no worries about being out of place...once youve been to one meetup, no more "But I'm shy leh" stuff liao. tongue.giflaugh.gif
