Assassin Clutched March 4, 2004 Share March 4, 2004 Hi Beyond_26, Since you have narrowed your choices down to 2...best is to do a test drive yourself and see which one you prefer to drive...day in and day out. Cheers
Thunder Neutral Newbie March 5, 2004 Share March 5, 2004 Between the 1.5 and the 1.6, the performance is different. The 1.6 has higher torque but lower hp. 0-100, the 1.5 takes 9.2 sec while the 1.6 takes 10.2 sec. Other than that, the 1.5 uses electric power steering while the 1.6 reverts back to hydraulic power steering. Hydraulic one better........ The engine design is basically the same but I believe for the 1.6, they tune it down so as to reduce its emission level. There could be more difference, but that's all I know. David325 1st Gear March 5, 2004 Share March 5, 2004 i bought it 2nd hand at depeciation about 6.5K/yr. Its manual and the consumption is great. With normal driving can get better than 13km/l. Lots of reving also can get about 11.5-12km/l. But maybe because i'm on stock 15inch tires. Never really tried top speed but at ns highway, the accleration to 180 is faster than my expectation and have push to 200 on a flat road before. Still can go but then... on 195 tires dun have enuf guts to push further. Plus the engine already almost red line liao.... but by theoretical calculation, the car can reach about 215/218 before rev cut at 5th gear.
Slayer Clutched March 5, 2004 Share March 5, 2004 That's fast. 200km/h In your opinion, what kind of driving style is most suitable for a VTI? ie. ppl who like to stay at the high, mid, low of the rpm? to fully make use of the 'sweet spot' of the engine. In a TS, I find the sweet spot 3-5K rpm is best. for take off, a decent upshift between 4-5k is just nice to keep up with other cars. At cruising , it there is not punch below 3k 5th gear. however, when reach 3.5k rpm, the pull is there to bring to 5k in seconds. (tested up north) In SG roads, I don't to this >4k rpm at 5th gear (>130km/h), normally downshift to 4th to bring up speed if neccesary for overtaking. As u said, I also not enough guts to test the limit.
David325 1st Gear March 5, 2004 Share March 5, 2004 well...honda normally play cheap by using very short gear. I'm already > 3K rpm in 5th gear from 95km/h onwards. Hence, most of the time on sg road just use 5th can overtake most car easily. Never really count how fast from 100-180 in 5th before though.

I guess there is alway pros and cons on every design. Having shorter gear means better torque at high-end?

If i go NS, sure ganna eaten up one. Unless change the whole engine to wrx one but not worth it.
Slayer Clutched March 5, 2004 Share March 5, 2004 For some reason, TS can go up to 190+. It'll take some stretch of road to reach the speed. according to other drivers who has done that. IMHO, these is speed is good only if u are in a hurry. :-) and definately not a enjoyable ride for a 1.6L traveling at its max speed.
Beyond_26 Neutral Newbie March 5, 2004 Author Share March 5, 2004 Actually in sg what it really matter is the pick up speed rather than the top right? Since u have driven a ts, how's the pick up, is it acceptable? Should be going to test drive next week.

Vtim 3rd Gear March 5, 2004 Share March 5, 2004 ES8 = 1.5L SOHC Vtec, 115BHP & 139N/M ES5 = 1.6L SOHC Vtec, 110BHP & 152N/M sorry I forgot which RPM for the above figures but the 1.6L has a higher Torque & at a lower RPM compare to the 1.5L so makes it a better city driving then the 1.5L ↡ Advertisement
