In Singapore there are only 2 standards. Either u have:

1) For front, black on yellow background, and for rear, black on white background,

OR

2) For both front and rear, white/silver on black background

Correct me if i'm wrong. I think its mentioned in LTA's website.

From wat i know, there are several kind of number plates...

1) Front white, back yellow are original number issue and installed by LTA, think they are FOC when it comes with the car

2) All black and white numbering are number plates installed by your car dealer, think cost around $20, normally it is absorb by the dealer or inclusive

3) Red plates are for Off peak and weekend cars

4) Half blue and half yellow plates with the beginning letter of "RU" is by the honda car sharing programming.

5) there is another 2 color plate in singapore. can't remember the combination. think it should be either half red and half yellow or half red and half blue. it also has the lettering begining with "RU" on it. those are meant for offshore cars. cars that are in pulau ubin or sentosa kind. meaning they cannot be driven on singapore main island road. Driving centre also have these kind of plates. Those cars with these plates are cars that are purely used for inside circuit training purpose. Not meant for public road training.

6) The rest are government related plates. For example our president. His car has not number plate. Only the Istana logo printed on a red background. The rest of the number plates are differentiate by the letterings and not color.

Namely:

*****MID - Military vehicle

*****MID with Stars - Military vehicle for General status officer

QX****X - Police vehicle

QY****X - Stat board vehicle

S** - High ranking minster vehicle

SJ** - Singapore Judges vehicle

S****CD - embassy vehicle

SZA****X - rental vehicle

SHA****X, SHB****X - Taxi

Think there should be more. Can't recall all. There is a unique one that i had seem before is NAVY*. It is the US Navy vehicle in singapore. Saw a few that even comes with left hand drive version.

saw one recently, a few months ago. Was a HUGE SUV, must be the typical american sized car. It took up nearly 1 entire lane, from marking to marking and think the driver on same eye level as SBS bus! Nice shiny black paintwork with NAVY* or USN* plates.

The special Malaysian plates are commemorative issues. When Proton first came out, they have PROTON 1-9999. The same goes for WIRA. SUKOM, on the other hand, was a commemorative issue for the last Commonwealth Games. SUKOM = Sukan Komonwel.

Just saw from 6:30 news that LTA has ammounced that Euro Car plate is illegal in Singapore. Any car that fitted with one will get fine.
