IMHO, it IS a gimmick! Didn't work even when placed next to the carb in my old Beetle. Tried it when it first came into the market. That was eons ago! I believe it's called Surbo now. Whether Cyclone and Surbo is made by the same company, I dunno.

Tried it before. It is just a set of fixed blades, turbine like, installed in the inlet side of the engine. It supposed to speed up the air and help to agigate the charge of fuel/air mixture before combustion.

Seem to improved acceleration at the begining , later on, not much effect. Fuel comsumption supposed to improved but not so in my case.

Tested on a honda civic 16v SOHC. sometime in 1993 to 1996.

The idea is very good - create a vortex so that more air/oxygen is sucked in the combustion chamber. That device is usually placed in the intake tube BEFORE the throttle body. Whatever 'vortex' created will be broken down by the trottle butterfly unless it's wide open. It will be further broken down when it's divided into 4 in the intake manifold to enter each combustion chamber. By the time it reaches the combustion chamber, there will be minimal vortex left.

In order for this apparatus to work as intended, it has to be placed as near the combustion chamber as possible. Meaning just before the intake valve/s in each intake manifold. So in a 4 pot engine, you need 4 of them. Downside is how to secure the apparatus so that it doesn't become loose and get sucked into the combustion chamber, leading to catastrophic results! [shocked]

One more thing, that apparatus may actually restrict the flow of air.

Just my $0.02.

For small throttle opening, the device seem to work fine , but at full throttle opening it may restricts the smooth flow, because of the vortex blades, to the carburettor.

The device costs abt $140 at that time.

For fuel injection engine, you need to installed 2 of such devices. If you really need to get maximum smooth flow of the inlet, a blue print of the manifold and polished the port of the inlet and exhaust ports will help.

Guys..

Thanks for the 2 golden cents... your information does help.

Yes buying the cyclone and putting into the right place is important. I saw a few being place just after the output of the air-filter.

There is this shop in Bukit Merah next to Hock Hin is promoting vigoursly. However, I had a feeling that putting it at the right input is important which I feel they do not know where.

thanks .. learn something from you guys.
