  1. I've heard about a type of mod that is just a piece of non thermal sensitive gasket that you put between your engine block and intake manifold, thus decreasing the intake manifold temperature. Anyone heard? Seems like a cheap mod, a piece of plate only. But a non conductor thing that can withstand high temperature of the block might be expensive..
  2. Hi car owners with direct injection engine (GDI/Gasoline Direct Injection), would like to understand more about cleaning of carbon deposits on the intake valves. Anyone has experience to share about such cleaning service - chemical or mechanical - is available locally? Or has anyone tried to diy? More info on the need for cleaning can be found here: http://www.aa1car.com/library/intake_valve_deposits_gdi_engines.htm
  3. Hi guys, i want to get the Apexi open pod power intake from ARK motorsport which they listed in mycarforum. Have been trying to call their sales line which is stated in their adv, but there's always noone to answer! Anyone know if the shop is still operating? Or where can i get this product?
  4. Hi, Lets discuss on 1. What type of air intake are you using? 2.Whats your car intake temperature in the day? 3. What do you observed on the performance of the car during different intake temperature. I am using freelance r.i.s.k air intake system. Semi open pod with cai. Intake temp <58 degrees celcius, car moves happily Intake temp >58 degress, butt can feel the sluggish untill it goes higher speed and thats when cai and the wind kicks in and temp starts to fall and it breathes well again. On a not so hot day when temp always <58 oc, it breathes happily irregardless of speed.
  5. Pls advise what is the "intake side of the cylinder head"? Can I request the mechanic to install the spark plug accordingly during servicing? The next time you are doing a tune-up on your ride, be sure to take note of this modification. By simply installing your plugs in a particular way, you will pick up roughly 1 whp, dyno proven time and time again. Index your spark plugs - The idea here is to "aim" the open end of the spark plug terminal (the gap) towards the intake side of the cylinder head. In order to accomplish this, simply mark on the plug a small line to indicate where this gap is. Proceed to install them as you normally would, except when the plug is hand-tight (that is, you've screwed it in without a ratchet as far as it'll go), use your ratchet to tighten the plug until the open end of the plug, faces the intake side of your cylinder head. Try to line up as best as you can. It may require buying 2 sets of spark plugs in order to do this, but hopefully you'll be able to do this the first time. Be careful with aluminum heads not to over tighten, as that could lead to a costly repair. That's it!
  6. Do we set it as outside air mode (indicator OFF) or recirculated air mode (indicator ON) ?
  7. Hi all, I bought a used car that came with a Simota carbon fibre (enclosed) air-intake system. I find it somewhat noisy and to get the original air box will be expensive. Just wondering if this Simota is notorious for noise or what? What suggestion would you recommend to replace this Simota? Would so called "mushroom" type air-intake system reduce or alleviate the noise problem? Please advise me and Thank you very much. Regards,

  9. Wonder how much Mr Mohan is advertising to pay for this job? From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Online...ory_757592.html Analyse skill sets of jobless to fine-tune intake of foreigners Published on Jan 20, 2012 I DISAGREE with the view that foreign workers are taking jobs away from citizens and suppressing the potential pay of Singaporeans (''Foreign talent policy had effect on income gap''; Tuesday). I have had a business in software services for more than 32 years and I have seen my staffing headcount drop to 15 from 65 because I offshored the work. My company is automated in every conceivable way possible but there is a minimum number of IT skilled staff we need. We advertise regularly for staff and only about 2 per cent of the applicants can pass the skills test that we set, and even then, just barely. In one case, the applicant took a toilet break and did not return for the test. The skill sets of the unemployed should be analysed so we can see which type of person is unable to obtain a job. Once that is established, the foreign worker quotas can be fine-tuned accordingly. The increase in the minimum salary for employment passes has, in certain categories, just increased employers' costs as suitable Singaporeans cannot be found. Harendra Mohan
  10. Hi Guys, I have 2 FD2 (I think cannot be used on FD1/3, shape looks different) intake filters to give away to 2 persons. One performance filter and one unused original. Self collect, I stay in the west near Clementi. FCFS yah? PM me if you are interested. Thanks.
  11. Hi Guys, Had anyone try before Simota Air intake before (not the drop in type) ? Is it noise and dose it improve your pick up. Lastly how about the FC? Thanks

  13. I DIY a ram air intake by remove my fog lamp and place an air duct there. Then build a box to house and open pod filter and and channel the air to the throttle body using a flexible 3" tube. It does help in improving my top speed by around 7KM/H (not bad if you consider my car is just 1.6L and just 110HP). Its not a big difference but its still noticeable and my throttle response has also improve. I guess the stock intake (despite have a K&N filter) is still too restrictive and too many bends which affects air flow speed. I don't know if the FC will change but I will monitor it.
  14. I am checking if anyone will like to purchase Supercharger Turbo Air Intake Fuel Saver Fan. This fan is place in the air intake system and helps to improve power and fuel consumption. Please let me know if you are interested. Each piece will cost at least 60 bucks in the market, If I am able to get at least 10 pieces, will have some discount. at 40 per piece, please let me know if you are interested. I am using this now and find the claim of improve power and fuel consumption to be true. Please add in your contact details if you are interested. Thank You.
  15. Hi all Went to a shop and ask for the price of a Open pod intake, the SE recommend me not to put coz my car is a AT car. Any reason why ?. the Se just told me that i will expierence slow Pick up. Thanks
  16. Anyone have any ideas to find this in Singapore??
  17. let say a 1.5 manual car with a stock air intake installed with a K&N panel filter vs a 1.5 manual car with a after market open pod K&N.. whats the difference? any experts wanna share?? example fuel consumption? sound of the engine? pick up? power? low end? mid end? or high end?
  18. Hi been reading the reviews of this product. So easy just plug n play and it claims to gained 16% HP and 30% fuel saver.Price retail at $80 including install.Just use a scredriver and insert the swirl like device to your air hose and voila.Hmm looks so easy sia,but is it worth it to try?Any side effect on the air intake system?
  19. Some time ago, when I sent my car for servicing (and it was not those major servicing mileage or interval), I decided to get my mechanic to take a look at my throttle body. I had driven the car for about 9k mileage and before that, it was a major servicing done and the mechanic had cleaned the throttle body. To my surprise, my mechanic told me that my throttle body was very dirty. End up he has to clean my throttle body. 9k mileage was equivalent to approximately 4 months of my driving. I was using stock filter all the way at that time and the mechanic checked my air intake path and hose. There was no leakage. He diagnosed that this was possibly due to the dusty/dirty environment or road conditions which I have driven my car. To a certain extent, I agree as I am staying near the industrial estate in the North. I can see the 2 big giant joysticks with smoke emitting at the tip almost everyday. But that was not all. I drove anywhere and everywhere including highways, expressways, city driving though notably these days there are a lot more vans and lorries with more black exhaust fumes than ever. However, I find it hard to believe that after only 9k mileage, my throttle body is so dirty with using stock air filter. My filter is very black. Of course, the throttle body has not reached to the extent of making my idling erratic or engine stalled. I just cannot figure out why or the reason behind. Perhaps brothers here can enlighten me on any other possible causes. I am using 030 engine oil and platinum spark plugs for your information. Thanks!
  20. Anybody here bore their air intake manifold before? What are the pros and cons?
  21. Mileage is 140+k km, without installing Oil Catch Tank, this is how it looks like **see also my DIY oil catch tank http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...2496192#2496192
  22. any one did their air intake? can share your experenice? i found out out air intake is a small hole tat lead to the air filter box then flex hose to the throttle body. trying to see if i can do a DIY CAI or direct air in-take(air ram) i have done it b4 on my prevoult ride... tankQ
  23. I ve searched the forum and cant find any previous postings, so I will start one new thread here. Was exploring ways to cut down noise coming from air intake pipes, charge pipes, downpipes, etc and getting into the cabin of my car. Was advised by some that one way is to wrap such pipes with heat insulation materials made from fabric kind of materials. Was also told that shops like garage-R can do this kind of insulation wrap, which not only insulates against heat preventing heat soak but also can insulate against noise to some extent. Anyone care to share the effectiveness of these insularion wrapping?
  24. 1. I read this from Option Mag on topic regarding the myth of modding air-intake and exos, page 110 for Dec 07 issue. They did 3 tests to a stock auto car: a) only install aftermarket air-intake (sponsored by Simota, not drop-in type) b) install both aftermarket exo and air-intake c) only install aftermarket exo(branded exo was used but no name mentioned) The on the road D-Box test results (air-intake, expel air, intake+expel): a) marginal improvement than stock condition b) Not better than stock condition c) Better result than a) & b). 2. I tried to summarize. The principle of modifying air-intake is simple, i.e. aim to enhance air-exchange efficiency. At high rpm, high rev, you wanted the most unobstructed air passage to aid the combustion in the engine and at the sametimes expel out expanded air as fast as possible. So therotically speaking, it should enhance horsepower. At low-end, if the intake is too great, it actually obstructs the expanded air as it is more difficult to expel them, causing obstruction instead. It doesn't mean enhancing air-intake is no good, but its actual performance boost comes better at high rpm. So for a stop-start traffic, enhancing air-intake is not going to help alot or not at all. 3. They went on to do the test, very long articule. For air-intake alone, at high rev, the engine performance benefited most but at 3K rpm, the torque figure was not impressive, Hence, air-intake alone is more suited to drivers who constantly high rev their cars. but no one drives like that on city roads. At 1K rpm, lose of pick-up is felt , it is only when the car rev up to 3k rpm above, then the speed is gradually felt. 4. The performance on exo alone was impressive, best D-Box result. Though torque figure was also affected but at low rpm and 2.5K rpm , an obvious performance gain is felt. Car is more lively, smoother acceleration and more eager to trust. 5. The combined option has the worse result. They attributed this to the need for the car to even rev harder to climb the acceleration curve. 6. Anyway, in conclusion, they mentioned that this is the true result but up to the reader to believe it or not. In fact, in their Q&A page, they also mentioned that no point having big air-intake but the exo can't cope and resulted in "constipation". The car manufacturers already factored in the optimal air-intake for the stock car but the exo is always a constraint because they need to run loops and ends to reduce nosie and emission to meet legal requirement. Hence, for auto car, the better mod is to start from the exo. 7. I thought sometimes back, someone also posted a video where an FD with aftermarket intake and exo was beaten flat by a stock FD? 8. Anyway, modding and tuning is a never ending story, one must really experiment and to test to confirm whether there is gain at the end of the day. Anyway, this is my 2 cents worth. Please comment and feedback. Thank you very much. Regards,
