  1. Hi car owners with direct injection engine (GDI/Gasoline Direct Injection), would like to understand more about cleaning of carbon deposits on the intake valves. Anyone has experience to share about such cleaning service - chemical or mechanical - is available locally? Or has anyone tried to diy? More info on the need for cleaning can be found here: http://www.aa1car.com/library/intake_valve_deposits_gdi_engines.htm
  2. With the COE getting higher, the days of changing cars regularly are pretty much over for most of us. So, to counter the itch of changing cars, more owners are putting in effort to change their current ride's look. With that in mind, the team at sgCarMart has been on the lookout for nicely done up cars and we spotted this clean looking Mitsubishi Galant at our usual lunch break hangout. Into its eighth generation, the Galant sold pretty well back in the early 2000s. While most of us will remember the high-revving VR-M and the turbocharged VR-4, it was the normal 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre that sold well. With most of the Galants gone from our roads(most of them did not survive after their COE expired), we were pleasantly surprised to spot this immaculate 2.0-litre example. Inspired by Chip Foose, star of the reality TV series Overhaulin' on Velocity, the owner modded his Galant in tune with the mid 90's JDM look. This meant that most of the stuff seen on the car are made around that period. Starting from the front, the stock bumper and grille that came with the car have been swapped with the JDM Galant VR-4's to make it look cleaner. The lights were smoked too. The side skirts were trimmed around the edge to make sure that it doesn't look too bulky. Loving the amount of details in this car! While the muffler tip has been changed to give it a streamlined look, the exhaust remains stock. And now to the wheels. After spending two years searching for it, the owner finally found his "Holy Grail"; a set of 18-inch ARD GT wheels. Conceived after a collaboration between ARD and 5Zigen, this is a rare three-piece rim that he wanted so much on his Galant. Coincidentally, the rims, which have been discontinued since 1996, falls under the correct period (90's). A Rear windscreen wiper was added for the JDM rally car feel. Yup. This is daily driven. Moving inside, A pair of retro-looking headrests as well as the rear view mirror were swapped with the stock ones. The rest of the car remains untouched, which is no bad thing since it is already pretty well-specced for a near-10-year old car. Sunroof and digital climate control are standard and the INVECS II automatic gearbox allowed one to manually shift, which was rare back then. Moving forward, there are plans by the owner to fully convert it into a true VR-4. We can't wait for it to happen!
  3. Hyundai has unwrapped the HND-9 Sports Coupe Concept at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show that runs from 28th March to 7th April. The concept is said to preview the next generation Genesis Coupe and is intended to showcase the design elements of its future products and evolution of the brand's 'Fluidic Sculpture' design language. The rear-wheel driven concept has an elongated hood, butterfly doors, hexagonal-shaped grille, quad exhaust pipe setup and wears 22-inch alloys. From a certain angle, the windscreen and roofline resemble those found on Saab products. The concept measures 4,695mm long, 1,890mm wide and 1,340mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,860mm. The HND-9 Sports Concept is powered by a 3.3-litre turbocharged, direct-injection engine which is good for 364bhp. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. On the inside, the dashboard is highly driver-oriented and modeled after a cockpit for that sporty feel. Do pay attention to the unconventionally-shaped steering wheel. Last but not least, the seats project different colours depending on the angle of sight.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SohqIBOb03k The Super Bowl is the championship game of the National Football League in the United States and is known for its high-profile advertisements that are aired during its television broadcast - that are believed to reach more than 90 million viewers and are very costly. Hyundai has come up with six commercials for the Super Bowl and one of them features the Sonata 2.0 Turbo sedan. The commercial, by the name of
  5. After the launch of the sedan and hatchback version of the Forte, Kia has now introduced the two-door variant, or popularly known as the Koup, at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Bearing a similar front fascia as the hatchback, the 2014 Kia Koup is available with 2 engine choices in the US. They are a 2.0-litre GDI unit with 173bhp and a high end 1.6-litre GDI turbo with 201bhp. The turbo Koup comes with a standard six-speed manual gearbox and an optional six-speed automatic with paddle shift. The force-fed coupe wears 18-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the all new Koup gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control buttons plus FlexSteer that allows three settings - Comfort, Normal and Sports modes. Other goodies include UVO connectivity system, Bluetooth and a rear camera display. The new Koup will go on sale in Q4 2013 in the US. Nearer to home, Kia Singapore has announced in their Facebook that the new Forte sedan will be launched in July this year. The Koup's local debut should not be far from its US launch.
  6. Hyundai has just delivered an armored Equus limousine to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Ban Ki-moon. Coincidentally, Mr Ban hails from the same country as his new ride, that is South Korea. The bulletproof Equus is built on a stretched version of the Korean automaker's flagship luxury sedan platform. It weighs at 8,448 pounds. This special Equus was reported to be developed in cooperation with Stoof International, a German company that specialises in building such vehicles. The car is capable of withstanding bullets from common assault rifles up to 7.62x51 in calibre. Despite weighing much more than the regular model, Mr Ban's Equus is still powered by the same 5.0-litre V8 GDI engine which develops 424bhp. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Since Mr Ban is unlikely to be interested in winning the traffic light drag race, there should not be any issue.
  7. [extract] Kia has released a teaser sketch of the Kia Pro_cee'd GT, a high performance variant of the 2013 Pro_cee'd hatchback which will arrive in European showrooms in the second half of 2013. Although the illustration shows a coupe body style, five-door hatchback and estate versions are reported to be in kia
  8. The all-new 2013 Kia Forte has just been introduced in its domestic market. The above Korean video shows a test drive review of the latest Kia sedan. Measuring 4,560mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,435mm tall, the Forte is powered by a 138bhp 1.6-litre GDI engine in Korea. It is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The test drive demonstrates the use of Kia

  10. The funkiest Hyundai to date, the Veloster is here in Singapore. But sad to say, the performance failed to match its good looks. Powered by a 138bhp 1.6-litre Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine, the Veloster is only about 10 bhp more than the 1.6-litre MPI engine found in the Elantra. It sprints leisurely to 100km/h in a leisurely 10.3 seconds. Even a mundane looking VW Jetta 1.4-litre TSI can leave the Veloster behind. But fear not, for there is a super-hot 1.6 Turbo-GDI version of the Veloster, which is good for 201 bhp. Coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the forced-induction coupe completes the century sprint in a quick 7.5 seconds. The Veloster seemed to go from mildly spicy in the non-turbo form to extremely spicy in the turbo variant. Is there room for something in-between? I believe there is. Just like the VW Golf, there is a base 122bhp version, a mid-range 160bhp
  11. [extract] Launched in Singapore around in Feb 2009, the present generation Kia Cerato Forte (as above) became the third best-selling car in Singapore in 2009 and 2010. It represents great value for money as it comes loaded with goodies such as cruise control, 6-speed automatic transmission and rear parking assist system in a compact sedan package. The Forte has a clean and sharp design but let
  12. Only days after the unveiling of the new Verna in Beijing, Hyundai rolled out the next generation Avante saloon at the 2010 Busan International Motor Show. Boasting a much sportier look than its rather dull predecessor, the new Avante continues Hyundai's 'fluidic sculpture' design philosophy that most automakers would describe today as a "four-door coupe". There are no photos of the new Avante's cabin, but we can assume that the interior styling will be heavily influenced by the larger Sonata. Hyundai has kept most technical details to itself at the moment, but the South Korean maker did reveal that the front-wheel drive Avante will be offered with the new 1.6-liter Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder unit is rated at 140 horsepower with 166Nm of peak torque and is claimed to be 10% more fuel efficient than its closest competitors according to Hyundai. Technical goodies include High Intensity Discharge headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster. Turbo Sonata unleashed!

After months of waiting and speculation, the 2.0L turbocharged Sonata with Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology has been unveiled at the New York Auto show. The first time we saw a turbocharged direct injection engine in a car from the Hyundai corporate family was the 2008 Kia Koup concept that produced 290 horsepower. This same engine now powers the Sonata to the tune of 274 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Now, this should spell some seriously good performance figures given that it produces even more horsepower than a Golf R. Of course, we do not expect it to out sprint a Golf R, given the Sonata's sheer size. Like the turbo GDI engines from Ford and the Volkswagen Group, this new turbo Theta II engine has a broad, flat torque curve with the peak being sustained between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm. Hyundai is using a twin-scroll turbocharger like the one used by BMW in its latest engines, which is said to minimizes turbocharger lag while maximizing combustion efficiency and power output. Hyundai is estimating fuel consumption figures of 22 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, which is just marginally less than the non-turbo models on the highway and significantly better than any of the V6 powered competitors. The top of the range 2.0T model shall be equipped with panoramic roof, 18 inch hyper silver alloy wheels, dual exhaust system and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
