  1. Anyone knows what it's this? I went to fix my tire recently cos there seemed to be a slow leak. The man said maybe there is a leak in the valve stem but it's not obvious. So I was like whatever. Tire pressure normal and all was good. Today I went to pump air into my tire and I realised I couldn't pump air inside. Then I noticed this. Well, there is no leak but the pressure is slightly lesser than what I like so I wanted to top up but couldn't. Anyone knows what is this and can it be removed? It seems like putty and not washer so..... It's the red colour thing.
  2. Hi all, Was told by my regular WS after servicing that engine oil started to leak from the engine valve cover & plug seal of my Toyota Axio 1.5L 2007 model. The mechanic showed me the signs which was a streak of oil flowing down and some solid deposits at the valve cover. He quoted about $400 plus including labour for the replacement. Questions: (1) Is the quote reasonable? (2) Any recommended WS if answer to (1) is no? (3) As the lifespan of my Axio is only about a year plus, should I go for re-con parts? Thank you.
  3. Hi car owners with direct injection engine (GDI/Gasoline Direct Injection), would like to understand more about cleaning of carbon deposits on the intake valves. Anyone has experience to share about such cleaning service - chemical or mechanical - is available locally? Or has anyone tried to diy? More info on the need for cleaning can be found here: http://www.aa1car.com/library/intake_valve_deposits_gdi_engines.htm
  4. Hello, everybody! It's your most friendly and charitable moderator here! I would like to share with you this charity drive that is organised by Bridgestone Tyre Sales Singapore Pte Ltd. Your contribution will mean a lot to the breast cancer awareness. I always believe that as much as you take/earn, you have to give back. And the best way is to give back to the society. The most common cancer in Singapore is Breast Cancer. " According to the most recent report from the Singapore Cancer Registry, between 2008 and 2012, breast cancer constituted 29.4 per cent of all cancers among women. During the same period, deaths from breast cancer made up 17.9 per cent of all female deaths by cancer, making it the biggest killer of women." Quote from The Straits Times -http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/breast-cancer-understanding-the-most-common-cancer-for-women-in-singapore So Bridgestone Singapore is having a pink tyre valve cap donation sales. Each set of tyre valve cap is $4. All the proceeding will be donated to Breast Cancer Foundation. I would like to seek for every MCFers support for this meaningful event. This may not be the prettiest valve cap you can find. But it serves the purpose and also has a purpose. I bought a few of this last year and give it to my friends and colleagues who are driving. Here is the participating outlet! You guys can go and buy from here!
  5. When pumping the tire, the air from the pump does not seem to get into the tire. When I remove the pump from the tire valve, can hear a loud stream of air coming out from the pump. Need to go through about 3-4 times before I hear the ting ting sound that the tires are fully pumped. Why is there such difficulty.
  6. Any DIY oil changers using this or know of anyone using this? www.fumotovalve.com Would like to hear from users on its efficacy.
  7. Hi, need some advice here. Just came back from a regular servicing of my 7-yr old Lancer GLX, and was told by the mechanic that the valve cover gasket and plug seal needed to be replaced for $195, as there was some leakage seen on the spark plugs. I thought those things are just some rubber seals, and was wondering if that kinda price is reasonable? Thanks for any advice.
  8. Pity the boys couldn't take part in this e-game. DotA 2 is one of the biggest e-game franchises. The winning team in the last International final won over US$ 5 million. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/local-gaming-team-forced/1525732.html
  9. Two of my tire valves are missing this silver "protector" type ring shell which wrap around the valve, just below the cap. I believed the tire mech forgot to put them back after my last wheel rotation job a month ago... And I didn't realise it was missing till only recently.... Question is: is this "protector" thing important to have? If don't have any safety issues? The valve (with no "protector", fully expose the valve body) just below the cap: The valve (fully wrapped by the "protector" in silver colour) just below the cap: Thanks!
  10. This may be a redundant question, but what would your opinion be on this matter? A 2.4L camry makes about 160hp. Quite a poor figure as opposed to Honda's average 160hp 2.0L K20A3/K20Z2 engines that we see on BnB Accords and Civics. A 1.6L 20V Blacktop/Silvertop 4AGE could easily make 160-170hp right out of the box with lots of room to spare. It also weighs considerably less than most engines today. If they updated their Blacktop/Silvertop engine to 2.0L in displacement, the engine could push out about 260+hp if they use better intake/exhaust ports and newer VVTi. That would be close to Evo territory and keep in mind, all of this while still being NA. If fitted onto their upcoming upcoming Supra (FT-HS) with a small turbo, then nb can reach 400hp minimum liao
  11. Hello. Realized that one of my tyres is leaking air. Check around and found out the the area around the valve is source. First time kena valve leak but not sure if i can change the valve only. I supposed the valve is not connected to the tyre itself right? If can change, how much will the cost be? Any shops in the north i can go to? If cannot, then i have to bring forward my rubber changing schedule earlier.
  12. blardy ang mo kid....he stole only one smiley face air valve cap.... Got picture of him.....caught by my car cam..... Cheapo ang mo!!
  13. Hi guys, I'm thinking of blocking up my egr valve as the amt of carbon in my intake is quite scary. B4 I do so anyone knows the effects? Thanks in advance guys Cheers
  14. Was checking pressures on my tires in a clockwise fashion, starting from left front and as i moved to the rear tires the caps felt different. i couldn't figure out what was wrong but upon inspection the rear caps were still silver, but they were hexagonal. in fact i think now they are stainless steel. (my originals were round chrome.) damn. weird ass. must be a cyclist who took my caps and replaced them with his.
  15. This will be my 2nd time all 4 tyre valve cap got stolen My car was park in the open air carpark and I believe the culprit(s) could be those young cyclist riding BMX etc .. It's just a normal metal cap , I'll probably revert back to those stock plastic caps.
  16. Hi bros, Yesterday my ride's engine died repeatedly when it was idling. After re-crank also died. The idling speed keep dropping unless I stepped on the accelerator. Sent my car to workshop and they called me telling me the throttle valve needs replacement and will cost $600. Told me if replace throttle body will be $1200 (which is not needed). Just want to know from the experts if $600 is too ex to replace the throttle valve? Got carrot? Appreciate your response :)
  17. http://konkocars.com/2009/09/17/hyundais-n...-engine-caught/ The CVVL patent filed by Hyundai Motor http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7311073.html The engine will have 168hp, top of the class!! http://rumors.automobilemag.com/6691869/ne...four/index.html The engine is called NU-series, 2.0 NU CVVL may make its first appearance in the US-specced Elantra by the end of this year! http://worldwide.hyundai.com/company-overv...amp;ListNum=186 Hyundai is aiming at 40mpg fuel economy for the Elantra CVVL http://blogs.internetautoguide.com/6694218...date/index.html
  18. Hey guys, urgently need a IAC or idle valve for an old Isuzu engine. DELPHI #CV10000 or GM Part No. 17112031 or Airtex / Wells Part # 2H1020 {#17111826, 8171118260, AC106} Can anybody help? Thanks
  19. Lets have a serious discussion of what you deem is the ideal valve angle. A brief search on the net leaves no satisfying conclusive answer as to which angle is the magic number. While i personally have no magic number offhand, i feel that a tighter/smaller angle is more optimised for higher flow rates with lesser turbulence. Of course if the valve angle is aggressive and the the engine manifold orientation retards air and gasoline flow, then it cancels out the effect of having an aggressive port angle.
  20. Adjusting spark plug gap , cleaning the throttle, boosting the engine hp output, remapping the ecu are some of the most common topics that have been discuss many many times in this forum. Only one topic I reckon has never been discuss so far ( pl excuse me , I may have miss the discussion)- that is Valve Tappet Adjustments. If you have exprience the difference in engine performance after a good valve tappet adjustments - let us know.
  21. Hi Bros Can someone tell me where to buy the blue color tire valve with cap. Leong Seng Tire quoted me the RAY brand cost me almost $140 for the air valve plus balancing. But I looking at those cheaper one, any input is very much appreciated.
  22. WTG Valve Master Engine Addictive (about 3x48 bottles) Min. 12~24 bottles each. Priority given if you can take all or more than 24 bottles each time. (I was using this with Starlet 2E engine which has been sold). Previously a starlet brother here reserved all the bottles but never picked up after 3 months...so I'm putting out the ad again Previous thread: http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?showto...2642702&hl= Pls PM me if interested. Self collect in Clementi Ave 6. Have a safe & merry Christmas to all!
  23. Any good places to change tyre valves?i mean the whole valve not just the valve cap
  24. Power Boosting Technology -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Basic Theory After multi-valve technology became standard in engine design, Variable Valve Timing becomes the next step to enhance engine output, no matter power or torque. As you know, valves activate the breathing of engine. The timing of breathing, that is, the timing of air intake and exhaust, is controlled by the shape and phase angle of cams. To optimise the breathing, engine requires different valve timing at different speed. When the rev increases, the duration of intake and exhaust stroke decreases so that fresh air becomes not fast enough to enter the combustion chamber, while the exhaust becomes not fast enough to leave the combustion chamber. Therefore, the best solution is to open the inlet valves earlier and close the exhaust valves later. In other words, the Overlapping between intake period and exhaust period should be increased as rev increases. Without Variable Valve Timing technology, engineers used to choose the best compromise timing. For example, a van may adopt less overlapping for the benefits of low speed output. A racing engine may adopt considerable overlapping for high speed power. An ordinary sedan may adopt valve timing optimise for mid-rev so that both the low speed drivability and high speed output will not be sacrificed too much. No matter which one, the result is just optimised for a particular speed. With Variable Valve Timing, power and torque can be optimised across a wide rpm band. The most noticeable results are: - The engine can rev higher, thus raises peak power. For example, Nissan's 2-litre Neo VVL engine output 25% more peak power than its non-VVT version. - Low-speed torque increases, thus improves drivability. For example, Fiat Barchetta's 1.8 VVT engine provides 90% peak torque between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm. Moreover, all these benefits come without any drawback. Variable Lift In some designs, valve lift can also be varied according to engine speed. At high speed, higher lift quickens air intake and exhaust, thus further optimise the breathing. Of course, at lower speed such lift will generate counter effects like deteriorating the mixing process of fuel and air, thus decrease output or even leads to misfire. Therefore the lift should be variable according to engine speed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright
