  1. The sports coupe to succeed the 350Z from the Japanese automaker Nissan, the 370Z, was officially unveiled for the European market back in 2012, during the Paris Motor Show. However, the model has now made it into the spotlight, again, with Nissan announcing an imminent launch of a facelifted version of the 370Z in China. Like its predecessor, the Nissan 370Z facelift maintains its sporty look. In fact, it looks a bit sportier and more luxurious now with a new front bumper, revised front end, and also a pair of vertical LED daytime running lights, the latter being the trend in the present day automotive market. However, expect no increase or decrease when it comes to performance as Nissan will not make any alteration to the engine. That said, the Nissan 370Z maintains a 3.7-litre V6 engine capable of spitting out 324bhp of total power output. Thanks to this engine, the car is able to go from a complete standstill to a speed of 100km/h in no more than five and a half seconds. For the facelift, Nissan is offering two new colours - Midnight Blue and Magma Red. Personally, I would choose the Magma Red over other colours as I think the car looks stunningly wonderful in it. Of course, apart from the colours, you also get to choose whether you want to drive in a coupe or to feel the air blowing on your hair. For the coupe version of the Nissan 370Z facelift, you'll have to pay 608,000 Chinese yuan (S$121,000). As for the roadster version, you'll have to spend a total of 668,000 Chinese yuan (S$134,000). Of course, you can only get the car at those prices in China, at least for now.
  2. Borneo Motors has announced its intention to bring in the 1.6-litre Toyota Auris hatchback. In its second generation, the Auris was first displayed publicly at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September. Shortly after, it went on sale in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. A hatchback body style has been missing from Toyota's lineup in Singapore for a long time. So, the arrival of the Auris will certainly freshen up the Toyota showroom here. Measuring 4,275mm (L) x 1,760mm (W) x 1,460 mm (H), the Auris is slightly shorter in the X,Y and Z directions than one of its main rival, the Hyundai i30. The 1.6-litre Auris features Toyota's Valvematic technology. Valvematic is a further development of the Dual VVT-I system by adding lift and duration control to the inlet valve variable timing. The engine is mated to a MultiDrive transmission, which is Toyota's fancy language for CVT. With 132bhp and 160Nm on hand, the Auris sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 11.1 seconds. This is slightly faster than the i30's 11.5 seconds performance. The arrival of the Auris should not raise any cause for concern for Singapore's favorite hatchback, the VW Golf. Still, the Auris is an important model for Toyota Singapore as it ushers in the new face of the brand with its all-new frontal design.

  5. When I saw the picture above, I thought I was looking at the Mk6 Golf GTI. It is even wearing the same "Detroit" rims borrowed from the Mk6 GTI. But on further reading, I realized that I was actually looking at the design study of the 2013 MK7 Golf GTI. Although this is a concept car, it looked very production ready with all the GTI themes such as the tartan cloth upholstery and flat-bottomed steering wheel. Like all Mk7 Golfs, the GTI rides on VW's all-new MQB platform. The most important detail is what lies under the hood of the latest VW hot hatch. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injected unit that pumps out 217bhp and 350Nm of torque, which is the same as the MK6 Golf R. With such tremendous twisting force, the latest iteration of the GTI sprints from 0 to 100km/h is 6.6 sec before reaching a top speed of 246 km/h. Buyers will be able to choose between a standard manual gearbox and the famed DSG dual-clutch transmission. For the first time ever, VW will offer a performance pack for the Golf GTI. However, power is only increased by a mere 10bhp with century sprint reduced by a negligible 0.1 second. The performance pack also comes with a differential lock that reduces understeer as well as bigger front brake discs. The 2013 Golf GTI is differentiated from the standard version by the twin red stripe at the front grille, red brake calipers, smoked LED tail lights and 80 mm chromed tailpipes. If I am an existing Mk6 Golf GTI owner, I will be quite happy that my ride will not look outdated as compared to its successor.
  6. For non-wrestling readers, "FU" is the finishing maneuver by WWE superstar, John Cena. Like him, Jaguar is ready to deliver a heavy blow to its competitors in the convertible segment. The British car marker has just released the official photos of the F-type - the successor to the E-type roadster manufactured between 1961 and 1974. Under the hood, it will have a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine that pumps out 335bhp and 450Nm of torque. A more powerful version of the same engine is endowed with 375bhp and 460Nm. A range-topping "R" variant will be motivated by the brand's familiar 5.0-litre supercharged V8, rumoured to generate between 503bhp to 542bhp. There is also a possibility that the ford-sourced 240 bhp 2.0-liter turbo unit could later on find its way into the hood. If you prefer not to get your hair messed up and enjoy better protection should the car turn turtle, the good news is that Jaguar will present a coupe version of the two-seater possibly by late 2013 or early 2014. The F-type

  8. Move over, Polo GTI, here comes the 2013 Renault Clio RS 200. As the name suggest, this is the performance version of the French mini hatchback. Unlike its naturally-aspirated predecessor, the new model is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Despite losing 400cc, the new RS produces the same power at 197bhp. What is more impressive is that turbocharged lump generates 26Nm more torque and achieves its peak torque at a much lower 1750rpm (vs 5400rpm in the old model). The pocket rocket allows the driver to select between normal and sport mode via an 'RS' button. In addition, a 'Race mode' for the transmission can be chosen and gear change would only take a mere 150 milliseconds. The car will also be offered with an optional Launch Control system. Although the century sprint timing of the new RS is not released, it is speculated to be below 6.5 seconds in 'Race mode'. The exterior styling details warn the rest of the road users not to mess with this little mean machine. The blackened side mirrors, LED DRLs, redesigned bumpers, red brake calipers, 17" black alloys differentiate the RS variant from its lesser brethren. On the inside, the RS gets red trimmings all over and sports bucket seats to keep your butt in place during hard cornering. Other standard features include touchscreen navigation, Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well as Renault
  9. Nissan has released the official pictures of the face-lifted 370Z sports car, which will go on sale across Europe after making its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. As evident from the images, the makeover is rather minimal that features a redesigned bumper at the front with a couple of vertical LED DRLs. Along with the facelift, the coupe will be available with two new colors, namely Midnight Blue and Magma Red. It will also get a set of new 18 or 19-inch alloy rims with red brake calipers. The interior remains literally unchanged, apart from an upgraded Bose sound system which gets new speakers and subwoofer. Nissan has decided to keep the chassis and engine of the face-lifted model untouched. This means that the car is still powered by the 324 bhp 3.7-litre V6 unit that brings the car from 0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds. With a base price of around 30,000 Euro (S$47,629), the Nissan 370Z is considered to be relatively cheap. It certainly is, especially from a Singaporean
  10. McLaren has released the first official images of the new P1 design study, which will subsequently become a production model next year with sales starting within a year after that. The production version will be the successor of the legendary McLaren F1, whose production ended in 1998. "The McLaren P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage," says McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman Ron Dennis. "Twenty years ago we set the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again." The British supercar maker says that the P1
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVcM04W4Qfo Lexus has released a short video clip to promote its new concept, the LF-CC, which will be unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show Starting the end of September. The concept shall preview an affordable mid-size coupe and styling direction that the next generation Lexus IS sedan will take. The concept is driven by Lexus Hybrid Drive consisting of an all-new 2.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine and a compact permanent magnet electric motor. This promises to set new standards in fuel economy and produce less than 100 grams of CO2/km travelled. Taking central stage at the front fascia of the LF-CC is an aggressive interpretation of Lexus

Subtle exterior updates includes a revised front grille, black rear diffuser that houses four trapezoid tail pipes, LED headlights and red GTI logo on the C-pillar. "The 208 was an excellent base for developing a sports hatchback," commented Marie Beaumont, 208 GTi Dynamics Manager. "We have worked with particular attention on the steering response, the chassis dynamics and the rigidity of the suspension. The 208 GTi successfully combines performance, safety and driving pleasure." The 208 GTI will be powered by a familiar 1.6-litre turbocharged
  14. With all the hype on the internet regarding the all-new 2013 VW Golf, Volkswagen had a media presentation in Germany to highlight the important features of the brand's vital new model. Unfortunately, we are still unable to have a good gauge of how the new car will look like after the presentation as only the body structure was showed. But judging from the body structure, one can guess that the MK 7 will generally retain the shape of its predecessor. Despite being larger and roomier than the outgoing model, the new Golf will shed about 100kg. In addition, VW says that fuel consumption and emissions are reduced by up to 23%. Hence, let
  15. Over the past few months, there have been many spy photos of the MK7 Golf floating on the internet. Now, it seems that the wait is finally coming to an end. According to German news daily, Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, the all new Golf will make its world premiere at a special event organized at Berlin's New National Gallery of modern art on 4th September 2012. As evident from the series of spy photos, the design of the Golf VII will be an evolution of the outgoing MK6. However, behind the conservative shell lies the biggest change. The car will be sitting on the company's latest MQB platform that underpins the new Audi A3 and the recently introduced Seat Leon. For the engine lineup, the European model will utilize a range of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines including a 1.2-litre TSI and a 1.4-litre TSI petrol equipped with VW's ACT (active cylinder management) system that shuts down cylinders two or three to improve fuel economy under certain conditions. The 1.4-litre is currently available in the new Audi A3 and generates 140bhp with 249Nm of torque. The hot 2.0-litre GTI and the range-toping 'R' AWD models will follow next year. The GTI version is rumored to produce around 260bhp. The new Golf will also debut hybrid powertrains in gasoline and diesel formats, as well as a pure-electric variant. The new VW hatchback will receive its public premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show which will run from 29 Sep to 13 Oct 2012. It will go on sale across Europe in November.

  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvPYvz8Ioh8 It seemed only yesterday when the Mk 6 Golf was launched. The existing Golf was a milestone model for the Volkswagen Group as it heralds a new corporate face for the brand, which is now commonly seen on the Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, etc. Now, the Mk 6 Golf is moving one step closer to retirement as the seventh-generation Golf GTI prototype has been caught testing around the Nurburgring. Of more interest to motoring enthusiasts would be the rumour that the hot hatch could churn out as much as 260bhp according to Autocar Magazine. This is much higher than the 220 bhp to 230bhp range that was originally expected. Perhaps, VW thought that they should step up their game as the Koreans are already generating 274bhp from a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit. If the rumour proved to be true, this would mean that the Golf R's replacement, which in its current form has a 266hp from a 2.0L turbo, would get well over 300bhp. More importantly, the front differential will get a new set up prevent wheel spin from the car

  22. [extract] The Jaguar C-X75 made its debut as a plug-in hybrid two-seater back in the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The exotic concept is powered by four electric motors. The batteries driving these motors are recharged using two diesel-fed micro gas turbines instead of a conventional four-stroke engine. If you think that such a drivetrain can only be found in a concept car or science fiction book, then you are very wrong. Jaguar
