  1. One thing that people are exceptionally fond of doing these days is posting EVERYTHING on social media. Unfortunately, this includes doing dumb things, filming it and posting it online for the world to see (Yes, it happens even if your account is private😞 IMG_7599.MP4 What Happened? In the short video, a 'chiobu' was filming herself and her two friends seated inside a Mazda MX-5. For those of you that know, the Mazda MX-5 is an iconic 2-seater Japanese convertible sports car. After looking at the image above, you wonder, "How do three people sit in a 2-seater convertible?" Apparently, this 'chiobu' decided to create a makeshift third 'seat' by sitting on top of the MX-5's centre console. Thereafter, the trio took a joyride in the Mazda MX-5 around Sentosa, while the 'chiobu' remained perched on the centre console. Without a doubt, what she did was dangerous. 1) Being seated on the centre console means she had no seatbelt on: She would have flown off like a rag-doll in the event of a frontal collision. 2) Her head was sticking out from the car significantly: If the car rolled over, she would have been decapitated even with rollover bars. How many traffic offences do you think were committed in this video? Let me know in the comments below! Netizens' Comments Book-smart but not street-smart🙃 Soon TP gonna have a 'social media' department already. If those 2 guys complete NS already but still so sohai, idk what to say anymore. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 2. Hi guys, Was thinking of getting this ride to replace my 1 year old MR-S. What do you guys think of this car? Went to test drive it today at BHP. Found it not bad for it's performance but a bit tight for the interior. Only concern it's the spare parts availablity and servicing. Does anyone knows where can I purchase the spare parts for this car and which place is good to go for servicing for a car like this? Lastly, do any of you guys know any local Copen car forum or English Copen car forums? Doing a search on Google mostly gave me Tawian and Japanese car forums for Copen. This only English language one is the one from the UK but it quite outdated. Thanks to all for your kind responds. Hope I can meet up a few local Copen owners here in this fourm. Cheers!
  3. Randomly came across this article on the possibility of a BMW Convertible SUV, did some googling, thought itll be interesting to share. . https://www.motor1.com/news/243237/bmw-finds-convertible-suvs-interesting/ How entertaining is the idea of this? Taking a muscular and rugged SUV/Crossover body and mashing it up with a soft-top of a convertible car? SUVs have been massive in recent years, gaining more and more traction. Moving forward will we be seeing more automakers chopping off the roofs of their SUVs?? How weird is it, really? Pretty damn weird to me when you have 3 rows of seats, and with 7 to 8 people inside. Here's taking a walk down memory lane. Toyota Rav4 Convertible "The strange ugly car that everyone wants: The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet", as described on one automotive site. The Evoque. Arguable a lot less weird looking than the Murano. And then the upcoming, concepts and custom models. Upcoming Volkswagen T-Roc Cabrio, to begin production in 2020. Concept SUV Convertible Audi Q2 Cabrio illustration Lexus LX570.. this is a custom SUV Convertible in Dubai selling for USD350,000. JUST WEIRD... And then finally, someone had to do an illustration of the convertible version of the BMW X6... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnXMXBkuixA I wud think if someone buys an SUV it wud be for the boot space, the ruggedness of it, the ability to traverse all terrains, weather.... The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet has the boot space that's even lesser than a VW Beetle. And if you buy a convertible it's because you want people to be able to stare at you better, because you don't have a motorcycle license but you want to feel the wind, and you want to experience how it feels to drive under the rain..... Hahaha........................ And if you get a Convertible SUV, you get best of both worlds, not? Convertible SUVs aren't anything new but they're still weird and awkward. Maybe a BMW convertible can make me change my mind. but I low ses. So no money to buy anyway......................... My thread is titled BMW but content only 10% BMW because I want to win tix to BMW WORLD la. Haha.
  4. Anyone seen a Renault Megan Convertible with car plate SJH1597C before?
  5. hello all, what's ur favourite cars stated as above my choice is the audi A5 cabriolet 2.0 bmw 645i cabriolet hoping to buy a audi a5 in the used market..too bad the 1 and only was sold .
  6. Input your comments / input here. I start by : Convertible / Roadster 1.Yes, it is ok to own a convertible / roadster as long as one can afford. Doesn't matter on what other people says not practical and so on. 2. If one have a family, he / she must at least have a family car (Can be BNB or etc) , and the convertible/roadster is for weekend use ! 3. It is not feasible if you want piak /bj cos its very "open" and not discreet. 4. It is cool to own a convertible / roadster as people will go "woah woah". Coupe: 1. Same as point 1 2. Same as point 2 but if raining , you have to rush and pull up the seat to let the passenger sqeeue in the back seat. (back seat usually not much leg room) 3. So how I felt that coupe cabin(boot) is larger than sedan cars ! Good for shopping groceries and maybe small furniture. 4. You have tinted glass to be discreet. (But be warned LTA will summon you cos I kenna tinted glass before, period) 5. People will go woah woah but not as high as convertible/roadster BHP/Torque which is the performance wise , I leave it to you guys...
  7. I am thinking abt going for the above. However, I am having concern on it's parts availability and reliability. Anyone with experience can share info on this? By the way, what is the difference between the pre facelift and facelift one apart from asthetically different?
  8. To the sunshine-loving motorist, few things can top the sensation of driving with the top down. But in the current COE climate, buying a brand-new convertible is prohibitively expensive, so the next best option would be to pick up a pre-owned unit. Aside from the usual buying tips, such as making sure that the vehicle has a sound service history and hasn’t been in an accident, would-be owners also need to focus on several key areas that are unique to convertibles. The most obvious would be the roof system. According to Ivan Koh, sales director at Vincar, if the roof is made of fabric, you should inspect it closely for tears on the canvas. Don’t forget to take a careful look at the “inside” portion that covers the cabin, too. If the convertible has a folding hardtop, Ivan’s advice is to operate the roof while listening for any unusual noises and watching for “hiccuping” movements in the mechanism. A problem-free roof will not emit creaking sounds and its action will be smooth, whether going upwards to deploy or downwards to stow. The same applies to manually operated soft-tops, perhaps on a two-seater roadster. First-time “topless” drivers might not be aware that convertibles generally aren’t known for their interior insulation. Be it a soft- or hard-top, it is normal to hear some rattling from the roof area, especially when the car is driven over rough road surfaces. A convertible’s roof should also be free from leaks. If a dealer claims that they’ve put the vehicle through a car wash, they should have no qualms about doing it again to prove that the canopy is indeed waterproof. Look out for any water that seeps into the cabin – even a few drops could be a sign that the overhead seals have deteriorated. Now, if the topless wonder you’re eyeing meets the aforementioned criteria, all that remains is for you to ascertain the dealer’s after-sales support. Ask the agent how quickly they can get you a new or refurbished roof in case your existing one needs to be replaced. Good dealers (Vincar being among them) will be able to source the item in about a month’s time. Keep these pointers in mind when buying that nifty used number and you can look forward to many kilometres of topless, trouble-free cruising This article was written by Jeremy Chua, writer for Torque.
  9. When Porsche took the top off its brand new 911 Targa recently, it was indeed cause for pause. Simply put, it was one of the most complicated and intricate electronic roof panel removal techniques ever seen. While the last Targa featured a trick sliding glass roof at the touch of the button, the new car dramatically swallows a traditional-looking panel via an exceptionally complex-looking mechanical operation. Basically, rather than just the roof panel coming off, the entire rear glass area lifts away the body in order for the small section over the passenger compartment to slide back. Now, this has got to be incredibly expensive to repair in the event it breaks. And it's highly impossible you'll be able to operate this mechanism at any speed. Watch the video below to see the incredible roof in action. http://dai.ly/x19xfpp
  10. With the recent introduction of an open-top concept of the Toyota 86 at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, it seems that Toyota have been rather busy with their new model. And at the same time, they are considering to launch a top range version of the Toyota 86 that will be powered by a hybrid drivetrain. Tetsuya Tada, Toyota's chief engineer, has stated that designers at the Japanese auto firm have already begun work on the 86's mid-cycle facelift. The facelift model will receive some changes on the bodywork and on top of that, there will be a more powerful version of the car. It will use either a turbocharger, a supercharger or an effective hybrid powertrain that will squeeze every last horsepower out of the boxer engine. Tada also mentioned that a hybrid solution is highly possible and will bring benefits that forced induction devices do not. Additionally, he also stated on why the company did not release a more powerful version of the Toyota 86 and also a convertible model immediately after its launch. The management considered the 86 a huge risk and they needed proof that the sports coupe would hit sales target before they agree on a convertible and a powerful variant of the car. Since now they have that proof, the management can think of new ways to develop the car. If Toyota agrees on the hybrid solution, the petrol/electric powertrain will be considered a simple and inexpensive choice as they already have that technology. One of the things that they need to consider is the extra weight these hybrid powertrains pose.
  11. Toyota has released the official images of the FT-86 open concept ahead of its world premiere at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The concept bears a similar front fascia as the coupe version but the hardtop is replaced by an electrical-operated soft top. The boot and windscreen have also been modified. Toyota commented that the convertible conveys a feeling of oneness with nature while maintaining the joy and sense of oneness with the vehicle. When it goes into production, the very successful Mazda MX-5 will have a new rival. The interior of the FT86 Open Top features contrasting white and navy blue tones on the dashboard, seats and steering wheel. The floor is laid with yellow-gold carpeting. Other highlights include alloy pedals and metallic accents. Toyota has yet to release the engine specifications, but it should inherit the 2.0-litre four cylinder, direct-injected boxer engine from its hardtop sibling. The naturally-aspirated lump is good for 200bhp and 205Nm of torque.
  12. For those of you who have been longing for a convertible version of the Toyota 86 coupe, your wait might be over soon. Toyota will be presenting the FT-86 Open Concept in March's Geneva Motor Show. For now, the Japanese carmaker has showed an official sketch of the concept which reveals a 2+2 seating layout. On the concept, Toyota says that it previews a possible future development of the award-winning GT86 sports coupe and its goal is to gauge the public's reaction to the idea of an open-top GT86. Toyota adds that the prototype version of the FT-86 is already undergoing testing. If public reaction is positive, a production model could be available in roughly a year
  13. For non-wrestling readers, "FU" is the finishing maneuver by WWE superstar, John Cena. Like him, Jaguar is ready to deliver a heavy blow to its competitors in the convertible segment. The British car marker has just released the official photos of the F-type - the successor to the E-type roadster manufactured between 1961 and 1974. Under the hood, it will have a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine that pumps out 335bhp and 450Nm of torque. A more powerful version of the same engine is endowed with 375bhp and 460Nm. A range-topping "R" variant will be motivated by the brand's familiar 5.0-litre supercharged V8, rumoured to generate between 503bhp to 542bhp. There is also a possibility that the ford-sourced 240 bhp 2.0-liter turbo unit could later on find its way into the hood. If you prefer not to get your hair messed up and enjoy better protection should the car turn turtle, the good news is that Jaguar will present a coupe version of the two-seater possibly by late 2013 or early 2014. The F-type

  15. In Singapore, finding an old classic car is something not that easy nor is it common due to the fact that our country is very small and there are not much of these cars left. But in big countries such as the United States, barn finds happen rather often and sometimes that find could be a gem. The vehicle you see in the pictures here is a 1961 C1 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster with 93423 miles (150,349 km) on the odometer and has been parked since 1968. The car was found by the guys at Barn Finds, a web based group who hunt for old vehicles and classic cars and publish them on their site for enthusiasts to snatch them up. Apparently, this particular C1 Corvette was found in Las Vegas and it has two owners since new. The current owner has parked the car for the last time in 1968 and it has not run since then. The Corvette has a 4.6-litre dual carburettor V8 engine that generates around 270bhp. The weather condition in Las Vegas has left the car in a terrible state. The car is also covered in huge amount of dust, both exterior and interior of it. Right now, it is on sale on eBay Motors and it is being sold with a hard top, without the convertible top and also without any of the convertible top
  16. The Copen is a two-seater convertible for the man with a small budget. However, time is running out for this affordable little car as Daihatsu is ending its production in August after a 10 year run, due to poor sales in recent years. The beginning of the end for the Copen could have started in January 2011 when Daihatsu announced that it would withdraw the Copen from the European market due to the ongoing strength of the Japanese Yen. The Copen was launched in June 2002 and enjoyed its highest sales in 2003, moving 11,000 units in that year. However, sales declined to around 2000 cars in 2011. I feel that Daihatsu already made plans to withdraw the sales of the Copen a few years ago as no automaker would leave a model unchanged for a decade. The model was unveiled in 1999 at the Tokyo Motor Show as the Daihatsu Copen concept. It was originally designed with a 660 cc turbocharged engine in order to meet Japanese kei car regulations, but it also came with a more powerful 1.3 L engine for the other countries to meet the environmental emissions standards. According to SgCarMart, Jack Cars Enterprise is still offering the 660cc turbo Copen for sale. If you wish to get a unit, do act fast.
  17. [extract] Outgoing SMRT CEO, Saw Phaik Hwa, must be the envy of many car enthusiasts. She earned $1.85 million in year 2010 and owns two luxury cars, namely a Ferrari California and Mercedes-Benz S500L. She can choose to enjoy some topless fun in the prancing horse or get pampered in the luxurious S-Class sedan. The combined cost of both cars comes close to about $1.3m. I guess I won
  18. Hi everyone, Me being a convertible lover was just wondering, do you think that Kia should come up with a convertible? Its latest Kia Koup has an edgy and sexy design to it. With such designs, I was thinking... hmm maybe they can come up with a more contempary convertible design. What do you all think?
  19. [extract] The Toyota 86 was only released several months ago and the car received a lot of attention since it is Toyota
  20. I'm considering selling my almost 1 year old BMW convertible 320 I. Given the increase in coe, can anyone advise what would be an estimated price I should ask for? What is the expected depreciation for a brand new car? Thanks for your input.
  21. Saw this Sxx 9999 ULTRA LONG CONVERTIBLE limosine last nite along ECP towards Changi Airport. Like those u see at WWF owned by BIG MAN and some wrestlers. Wasted I was driving or else will take a shot.
  22. Will you park with your top down? I often see convertibles/cabriolets (porsches/bmw/slk) parked with top down at Central, Paragon carpark. Aren't the owners afraid that thieves might break into their glove box or steal their HU/leather seats etc? Aren't the owners afraid that vandals may vandalise the interior of the car? Aren't the owners afraid that some people may climb into their car for a feel? What about you? Just want to find out.
