  6. Luke Perry, a talented actor and a generation-crossing heartthrob, died Monday. And as these things usually go, there is a great outpouring of grief across the media -- especially social media. Here, the reaction to his death is tinged with a particular kind of discomfort. Perry was just 52, not much older than those fans who watched his '90s breakout show, "Beverly Hills, 90210," in their teens and early 20s. Despite his bad boy persona, Perry didn't die from driving too fast or overdosing on drugs or living too hard. He just -- died, as so many humans do, from a seemingly indiscriminate failure of the body. A massive stroke, his publicist said. For Perry's older fans, his death is a reminder of a youth that is receding in the rearview mirror, even as mortality is approaching way too fast. Those same girls (and a few boys) who stormed malls in the early '90s (some even getting injured in the rush), are now nearing 50 themselves. Given that the average American woman lives to be 81 and the average man 76, Perry's death comes, culturally and statistically, far too soon -- and closer to the current ages of his then-teenage fans than to the national average. Perhaps that's part of what is so jarring. If only the good die young, and many of the young die from the wildness of youth, we at least want to believe that those who die in the in-between of middle age did something to speed it all along. When someone vibrant, prosperous and beautiful dies simply because of a corporeal malfunction, it becomes painfully clear that while we can and should take care of ourselves, much of how we exit this life is beyond our control. It is also a reminder that many of us are tipping into the middle of -- or second half of -- life's ledger. Luke Perry was a flesh-and-blood human whose passing forces us to face that we are now at an age where our teen idols' bodies give out -- which is, inconveniently, also an age where our bodies could do the same. There is no positive spin on death, nothing that is made better by the passing of a talented, charismatic, and by all accounts thoroughly decent man. And these middle-aged celebrity deaths, arms-length as they are, may shock and sadden us, but they do not utterly level us or fundamentally change our lives like the deaths of close loved ones. They do offer unique moments for sincere reflection on our own choices, and our own paths. We may not end up walking as far as we would like. Are we happy with the trail we have left behind us? 10. https://youtu.be/NCiiS-UlXMY?list=PL9hNbo_Ztnr9kyeIy53_uudXtRPTbOjAw&t=1360 Something to ponder.. 22.43min to 27:13min Petter Schiff talked about illegal immigrants in USA and misconceptions people have. He come to explain some of the misconceptions about illegal immigrants take away American jobs and lower down wages. Having listened to his explanation, somehow it also applies to Singapore, replace the word illegal immigrants with foreigners and the whole things makes a lot of sense to Singapore context. People keep complaining foreigners come in Singapore that took away our job and taking down our wages, is that true? Foreigners come in Singapore that took away our job, debate: Not so true as there is unlimited amount of work. There is no limit to the numbers of jobs that can be created. Foreigners come in Singapore that lower down our wages, debate: Not so true, let's assume because there are foreigners come in, Employer can hire foreigners can do things at a lower price then they would have to pay higher if these foreigners won't here. Let's say we are getting an influx of skilled workers, carpenters, plumbers, tailors, mechanics. Let's say your sink is clogged up and you want to call plumbers. If there's more plumbers here and because there is more plumbers, employer can hire plumbers for less money, cost of hiring plumbers goes down. The debate is less money to hire plumbers, more money to spend someplace else. Foreigners help bring down the cost of doing business and ultimately bring down prices and that benefits everyone, its a good idea to have more workers in the economy. There are a lot of foreigners that come to Singapore that jobs that Singaporeans won't do. The only way these job (that Singaporeans won't want to do ) gets down is because these foreigners did them and if these foreigners won't here, the jobs won't get done, and a lot of these companies won't exist here anymore and so a lot of higher paying jobs will go away. Because without lower paying job doing the job, higher paying jobs will not be possible. It is an chicken and egg debate. However, there still need to have foreigners that need to fill up jobs that many Singaporeans do not want to do. Many companies would not have exist if unable to find lower paying workers and likelihood, a lot of higher paying jobs will not be here and many Singaporeans would also suffer.

    Anthony bourdain passed away :(

https://cnn.it/2xTqqgX CNN's Anthony Bourdain dead at 61 By Brian Stelter New York (CNN) — Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61. CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide. "It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time." Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series "Parts Unknown." His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning. Bourdain was a master of his crafts -- first in the kitchen and then in the media. Through his TV shows and books, he explored the human condition and helped audiences think differently about food, travel and themselves. He advocated for marginalized populations and campaigned for safer working conditions for restaurant staffs. Along the way, he received practically every award the industry has to offer. In 2013, Peabody Award judges honored Bourdain and "Parts Unknown" for "expanding our palates and horizons in equal measure." "He's irreverent, honest, curious, never condescending, never obsequious," the judges said. "People open up to him and, in doing so, often reveal more about their hometowns or homelands than a traditional reporter could hope to document." The Smithsonian once called him "the original rock star" of the culinary world, "the Elvis of bad boy chefs." In 1999 he wrote a New Yorker article, "Don't Eat Before Reading This," that became a best-selling book in 2000, "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly." The book set him on a path to international stardom. First he hosted "A Cook's Tour" on the Food Network, then moved to "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" on the Travel Channel. "No Reservations" was a breakout hit, earning two Emmy Awards and more than a dozen nominations. In 2013 both Bourdain and CNN took a risk by bringing him to the news network still best known for breaking news and headlines. Bourdain quickly became one of the principal faces of the network and one of the linchpins of the prime time schedule. Season eleven of "Parts Unknown" premiered on CNN last month. While accepting the Peabody award in 2013, Bourdain described how he approached his work. "We ask very simple questions: What makes you happy? What do you eat? What do you like to cook? And everywhere in the world we go and ask these very simple questions," he said, "we tend to get some really astonishing answers." Bourdain's death happened after fashion designer Kate Spade hanged herself in an apparent suicide at her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday. Spade was found hanged by a scarf she allegedly tied to a doorknob, an NYPD source said. Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a survey Thursday showing suicide rates increased by 25% across the United States over nearly two decades ending in 2016. Twenty-five states experienced a rise in suicides by more than 30%, the government report finds. --- Sucks

  16. Thu Apr 3, 6:36 PM ET LEWISTON, Maine - Police are searching for a man accused of shoving an electric guitar in his pants and walking out of a store in Lewiston, Maine. Police say the theft occurred last week and they're looking for three men. One of the men shoved a Fender Stratocaster in his pants and pulled a sweatshirt over the top. The other two acted as lookouts. All three can be seen on footage from video surveillance. Strangely enough, the music shop has seen the method before. A man did the same thing in 2006 but was caught as he tried to walk out. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080403/ap_on_...DxpUo0P8LIuQE4F

  18. Dear all, Had scrapped my car last year end.. so I rented a car from a contact I saw on gumtree. It was a manual Toyota Vios, and was $1,100 monthly, with a deposit of $500. When I signed the contract, i checked and noticed the company name. Everything went well from the car collection to the driving. Until I went overseas for reservist. We agreed that I will return the after i drive for 3 weeks due to reservist, and collect back after CNY. After that, the day before I was supposed to return the car, the car battery went flat. So i called the person and he arranged tow truck to tow the car to workshop change battery. After that, I left and went overseas. When I was back before CNY, I called the person up and we agreed to collect the vehicle 1 day before CNY eve. Hours before the collection, he showed me pictures of the car getting into accident with a Malaysia Truck. So I have no car to drive. Fine, So i waited until after CNY. So this week, Monday he say will give me a reply. Call him/SMS, no response. So I keep calling and sms still no reply. Yesterday reply me say will give me answer by today. Up till now nothing. Call him no pick up. SMS no reply. I think I most likely kena conned already. Money fly away. I hope nobody else need to go through whatever I have gone through. Please only rent from reputable car rental companies. I have learnt a lesson in pain.
  19. The unfortunate demise of Jayalalithaa on 5 December 2016, fondly known as 'Amma', 'Puratchi Thalaivi' and the 'People's CM', has put the whole of Tamil Nadu into a state of mourning. For an actress-turned-politician to come as far and to earn the respect and love of the people in a territory marked by patriarchy, her story has been remarkable. http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2016/dec/06/15-chief-ministers-passed-away-while-in-office-heres-the-list-1546354--1.html While to me , its just another sad passing, I am just taken aback by the flying suspension to india and the SAFETY aspect and travel advisory during that period. Just an aspect that I never knew that when a minster passed on, there can be so much anxiety created in the country.

    Yamaguchi Yoshiko (李香蘭) Passed Away

Younger MCFer probably won't know who Yamaguchi Yoshiko is .. born and bred in China, becoming of the top divas of Chinese pop music in the 1930's, one of the legendary historical figures of WWII, worked for Japan Imperial Army Propaganda Division as "Chinese actress", faced death sentence for spy/treason, and returned to Japan for the first time in her 20's, later went to Hollywood, hang out with people like Charlie Chaplin, became a rare Japanese woman politician and senator that helped resume Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations and helped promote peace of the region as a liberal. A tough woman of the 20th century in my opinion, regardless of political stance. Some may know her through Jacky Cheung's song 《李香蘭》originally a Japanese song dedicated to her life story. Others will remember Stephen Chow's spy movie. Most will know her song 《夜來香》 recorded in Shanghai. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmNCFY41GWs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt7QJ9_nY38 RIP.

    Chased away by LTA Enforcer

My frens and I were happily flying our model helicopters in the middle of nowhere on a sunday morning. The road was cleared of any vehicles most of the time on sunday. You can see from the photo taken from my helicopter, how isolated and clear the roads are : We parked our cars along the road and flew our model helicopters. LTA Enforcer came with his flashing lights turned on and indicated to us to not park our car along the road. We never argue, just pack up and leave. But I was thinking, this is not some crowded road or frequently used road. Why chase us away when we are not causing any obstuction or any inconvenience to any road user. The FW were more appreciative of our flying of model helicopters. SG is already very small with little places for us to fly, why like this???

  24. Hi All, I got a problem, the owner of the van I am driving now had passed away which was my late father. I have checked with LTA, I can still drive as long policy still under the estate of (vehicle' owner) while preparing the documents for transfer. How do I get the letter or any identification of being an estate of the deceased owner for my next insurance renewal? From LTA or a lawyer firm and how much will it cost me? The van left 2 years with no loan and the COE cost my dad $86 for a 10 years renewal in 2017. So even I scrape it, I will get not more than $20 or so. Please advise thanks.
