  1. Dear friends I have recently come into possession of some koi and large gold fish, and I am hoping to get some advice: - how do I clean the tank? - change the filter? - anyone I can hire for some professional advice or is there a bro here who is an enthusiast who does not mind coming to have a look? (will cook or provide super kopi and a big meal!) Thanks bros I have put aside some put in the balcony for this effort, this was something I did in my dad's old place and I am hoping to do something like that in future: Some advice on some solar powered lights to accompany this will be much appreciated too, thanks!

    Fish tank

Hi guys, Any place to recommend where I can buy a 3 feet fish tank with cabinet at a decent price? Not sure if a budget of 300 is enough. My existing tank was given by a friend and now the cabinet a bit pong kong after we found that the water pump was not properly placed and causing the fater to overflow into the cabinet. Thinking of getting a whole set. PS: Sorry guy, I wasn't referring to the ones at geylang...
  4. Manhattan Fish Market has been accused of denying a mother in Singapore a Mother’s Day promotion offer because the woman has no husband. According to a June 5 Facebook post by Mellissa Seah, the incident occurred at the Manhattan Fish Market outlet at Changi Airport Terminal 1. Seah wrote that she came across a promotion where mothers are entitled to a free Manhattan Fish ‘N Chips with every purchase of a main dish. Staff allegedly said, “Your family is not complete” Seah thought that this was a good deal and wanted to dine at Manhattan Fish Market with her mother. However, when Seah asked about the promotion, the eatery’s personnel allegedly told her that her mother did not qualify for it. The staff allegedly said, “You’re not entitled to this because your family is not complete,” and “The father is missing”. Seah clarified that her family is incomplete “not by choice”, but did not elaborate: Seah also wrote that it was “disappointing that a brand like MFM still has the mindset that a Complete Family Unit is one that is made up of Father, Mother and Child”. She ended her post by saying that she is proud to be part of an incomplete family, and she will never patronise Manhattan Fish Market again.
  5. It seems like McDonald’s is indefatigable when it comes to releasing new items, considering past reception. Chocolate pie The fast food giant has announced that it will be selling the much-hyped chocolate pies in Singapore starting March 1, 2018. Singaporeans have long heard of this menu item, which was previously only available in countries such as Korea, Japan and Bangkok. In other news, McDonald’s Singapore will also be releasing Fish & Fries, as well a Sweet Chilli Fish Burger on the same date. https://mothership.sg/2018/02/mcdonalds-singapore-chocolate-pie-fish-and-fries/ Looks good! Anyone tried before?!
  6. what's you favorite brand of fried fish skin ? I have tried a few brands and this is so far my favorite. very crispy !!
  7. I heard from my coleague that there is a fish market in Pontian which sell fresh seafood at very reasonable price. The market opens in the afternoon, 1pm if I heard it correctly. But, KNN, the coleagues are evasive when I asked for direction and always say they either follow the direction from their uncle or just sit a car and dunno the way. Searched thru Google but can't find anything on it. Has anybody here been there before? Could you share where it is?
  8. This morning while at Plaza Singapura with my family, we saw a queue line at level 6 along the Yamaha shops while the rest of PS was still quite empty. Curious, we went up to see what these people were queuing for... and it was for Irvins Salted Egg potato chips and fish skin! So how do you find their products? Super delicious and definitely worth the hype, or overrated and overpriced? Official website: https://irvinsaltedegg.com/
  9. Hi all, Fish is perceived as a healthy source of protein (Omega). My current maid told me his ex-employer in Hong Kong is a fish lover and wanted fish for every meal if they are eating at home. Do you eat fish everyday? I thought this is a good idea and seriously thinking about buying more fish in the near future. What are the fish that are known for a nice steamed dish? I'm sure there are both cheaper one and the more exotic one. Any lobang for reasonable priced fishes around? Fish guru, please advise. Thank you very much. Regards,

  12. RIP. Live by the sword, die by the sword! Swordfish kills fisherman who speared it during struggle in Hawaii After struggling to escape, the fish swam back around toward the 47-year-old man at a high speed and struck him in the chest with its 3ft bill Largely an open-ocean species, swordfish rarely swim in shallow waters. Photograph: Norbert Wu/Corbis Alan Yuhas @alanyuhas Saturday 30 May 2015 22.21 BST Last modified on Saturday 30 May 201523.33 BST Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share via Email Share on LinkedIn Share on Google+ Shares279 Comments53 A swordfish impaled a Hawaiian fisherman after having been speared by the fisherman itself, state officials said on Saturday. Police named the victim as 47-year-old Randy Llanes, saying he had grabbed his speargun and jumped into Honokohau harbor on Friday morning when he spotted a broadbill swordfish near his boat. Llanes speared the fish, but as it struggled to escape the spear’s line got tangled in a mooring anchor. Caught on the anchor, the fish swam back around toward Llanes at a high speed and struck him in the chest with its 3ft bill. Although Llanes was quickly pulled from the water and emergency personnel arrived minutes later, CPR attempts proved unable to revive him, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources. Shortly afterward Llanes was pronounced dead at the hospital, where a large crowd of people gathered to pay their condolences. A Hawaii native, Llanes had worked for more than 18 years as captain for a charter fishing business, and had more than 25 years of experience fishing in the archipelago’s waters. “Hawaii is one of those rare places where sea monsters still exist and world records can still be broken,” he wrote on his company’s website. “My greatest pleasure is being able to share the excitement and natural wonder of the Hawaiian offshore fishing experience with others.” He was described by family members as an intimidating but generous man. “He was a tough guy, he was such a tough guy that everyone’s scared of him, the whole harbor’s scared of him,” Kalina Llanes, the man’s sister-in-law, told KITV news. She added that those who knew him well were “not scared of him because he has such a big heart”. Llanes’ friend Dale Leverone told Khon the fiserhman was “just a great local boy. A good attitude, good person, a help-anybody kind of guy. He had a heck of a lot of friends.” Leverone described him as an “accomplished fisherman”, saying “he actually caught a 500-pound marlin yesterday out of his skiff.” State officials also pulled the 6ft, 40lb fish from the water. Largely an open-ocean species, swordfish rarely swim in shallow waters. County police and conservation officials said they are investigating the incident, and said that while such accidents are rare, swordfish and other large billfish are aggressive and fast animals who have injured and killed humans before. In 2004, a Malaysian man out fishing was killed by a swordfish when the animal leapt from the water and delivered a fatal blow to the chest. A year earlier, a researcher studying whales in the water survived a marlin’s lancing off the coast of Maui after the fish veered into him to escape its predators.

Hundreds of dead fish have been removed from Pandan Reservoir over the past few days by the authorities, and the clean-up was still ongoing yesterday afternoon. -- PHOTO: PUB BY FENG ZENGKUN ENVIRONMENT CORRESPONDENT Hundreds of dead fish have been removed from Pandan Reservoir over the past few days by the authorities, and the clean-up was still ongoing yesterday afternoon. National water agency PUB told The Straits Times that it had found low levels of dissolved oxygen in the reservoir water, which likely led to the deaths. "This could be caused by a combination of factors such as dry weather, algae growth and decomposing organic matter taking up the dissolved oxygen," said a spokesman. Tests on water samples showed the reservoir's water quality was not affected, but PUB said it would monitor the situation. - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/environment/story/hundreds-dead-fish-removed-pandan-reservoir-water-quality-unaffecte#sthash.9bkzNII3.dpuf

  15. Got people eat puffer fish, but must be correctly prepared! http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11348235&ref=NZH_Tw Eleven members of the same family are in hospital after unwittingly cooking and eating a poisonous pufferfish for dinner. The Souza family, from Rio de Janerio, were given the fish by a family friend who had recently returned from a sea fishing expedition off Dubque de Caxias, on the Brazilian coast. Unbeknownst to anyone, the present was a deadly pufferfish - which contains a toxin 1,200 times more lethal than cyanide, a drop of which can kill in 24 hours. Only seconds after taking their first bite members of the family began to vomit, before losing feeling in their face, arms and legs. Most of the victims, including children aged three to five, were paralysed before they could even reach a car to transport them to hospital. "My brother-in-law was the same. He didn't even make it out the door. We had to carry them out and rush them to hospital in a car," she said, explaining they had invited the entire family round because the fish looked so "tasty". Grandmother Maria do Carmo said: "We had no idea it was a pufferfish. They're all in a critical condition. My grandson, my daughter, and my son-in-law, they are all in hospital. We're praying for a miracle. "We put the fish on the table in the yard outside and everyone dived in. They were all saying how delicious it was. I didn't eat it because I was waiting until everyone had tried it." Pufferfish, or 'Fugu', is a delicacy in Japan. It is strictly controlled and only chefs who have qualified after three years training can prepare a meal featuring the fish. Statistics from the Tokyo Bureau of Social Welfare and Public Health indicate 20 to 44 incidents of 'fugu' poisoning every year between 1996 and 2006 in Japan - however a single incident can hide multiple casualties. There is no known cure for the poison, which paralyses the body while leaving the victim, who gradually suffocates, awake. Victims are hospitalised and their stomachs emptied before being fed activated charcoal to bind the toxin. They are also put on life support until the poison wears off.
  16. ??? Great idea, or waste of time. All of us going to get those chips in our system? With a chip reader I can read you, haha From February next year, some fish farmers in Singapore will be introducing microchipping for their fish. The aim is to improve competitiveness and ensure the quality of the fish sold to consumers. Asia's first tracking system for fish The microchips will allow buyers to find out the origins of the fish and its health conditions using an online system. There are plans to extend this to about 120 fish farms in Singapore within the next three years. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/fish-and-micro-chips-s/1418740.html SINGAPORE: From February next year, some fish farmers in Singapore will be introducing microchipping for their fish. The aim is to improve competitiveness and ensure the quality of the fish sold to consumers. Fish will be microchipped once they reach 100 grammes. With the microchip, buyers can find out the origins of the fish and its health conditions using an online system. Once launched, this will be Asia's first tracking system for fish that are meant for consumption. There are plans to extend this to about 120 fish farms in Singapore within the next three years. "Once the chip is in, the farmers shall not implement any drugs or any medication to the fish. If the fish is sick, either they die or we do medical treatment. When we do medical treatment, this group of fish will not go into the market," said Mr Phillip Lim, ex-chairman of the Singapore Marine Aquaculture Cooperative. - CNA/xy

  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGGhgoiSna0 Hundreds of dead fish have been found floating in the river at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, causing a lingering stench in the area. When The Straits Times visited the park on Wednesday morning, at least 300 white-coloured fish about a foot long each were seen floating on a 200m stretch of the river close to Bishan Road. Many were decomposing under the hot sun. Cleaners were seen wading through the river gathering the fish. Residents said that they spotted the dead fish at about noon on Tuesday. Many long-time residents said this was the first time they had ever witnessed mass fish deaths in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
