  1. JDM, Euro and Exotic sports cars For the uninitiated, sports cars consist of 3 main categories: JDM, Euro, and Exotic. These sports cars come in a bunch of varying specifications. Let me give you some examples. The Renault Megane RS is a 4-cylinder turbocharged, manual, front-wheel-drive Euro sports car. Likewise, the Mclaren 720S is a V8 twin-turbocharged, automatic, rear-wheel-drive exotic sports car. Last but not least, we have the iconic JDM street-legal rally car – The Subaru Impreza WRX, a 4-cylinder turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sports car that is available in both the manual and automatic transmission. The list goes on and on, but you get my intention, don’t you? With dozens of offerings for sports cars of varying specifications, there is always an ideal sports car for you, no matter the specifications you require and whether you can afford it. Why 2030? Unless you have been living under a rock, you would have encountered the Electric Vehicle (EV) craze surrounding us lately. According to the SG Green Plan 2030 (SGP 2030) announced during Budget 2021, we will be looking at significant changes to the status quo. Nope, I am not talking about the rise in petrol duty rates. I am referring to the phasing out of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles by 2040, driven by these three aspects of the SGP 2030: Cessation of new diesel cars and taxi registrations from 2025 Requirement of newly registered cars to be of cleaner-energy models from 2030; and All vehicles to run on cleaner energy by 2040 What does it mean for us? The SGP 2030, coupled with our beloved COE system, is the perfect formula for phasing out ICE cars in Singapore. Unfortunately, this will spell the demise of JDM, Euro and Exotic sports cars alike. From 2030 onwards, the supply of ICE sports cars will be what we currently have in the market. As such, does this mean that the low supply of ICE sports cars drives its market value up? If you wish to drive your dream Nissan GTR, BMW M4 or Lamborghini Aventador in the future, you better pray hard that its current owner renews its COE. Then again, it would be best to consider the maintenance and upkeep cost required for these ageing cars before purchasing them in the future. Similarly, manual transmission cars will be phased out eventually. Here's why. EVs have an electric motor in place of an ICE vehicle’s “engine” by using a single-speed transmission that regulates their electric motor. Except for the Porsche Taycan, which uses a Two-Speed gearbox. As such, EVs come only in automatic transmissions, and the phasing out of existing manual transmission ICE cars means the demise of manual transmission cars. Electric Sports Cars Yes, they are insanely fast. Yes, it produces instantaneous torque. But can we consider them as true-blue sports cars? Aside from the speed and torque, car enthusiasts also seek the pleasure of high engine revs, the burbling exhaust sound and, most importantly, the liberty to modify various car performance components – None of which an electric sports car is capable of fulfilling. Furthermore, the single-speed transmission that regulates its electric motor seems like a bore that takes the fun out of driving compared to manual gear shifts or the quick gear shifting of DCT transmissions. For those Gen Y & Z car enthusiasts out there, I will do one for you. — Here’s a plea to those of you that currently own any sports car; please renew your COE so that the future generations of car enthusiasts will have a chance to own the car of our (childhood) dream someday. Last Thoughts The golden question here is, will a manual (class 3) license still be relevant in the near future? If it is irrelevant and deemed obsolete, this will remove any segregation between the community’s existing “Class 3 vs 3A” mentality. If you are unaware of the "Class 3 vs 3A" commotion, read the article below: --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. 2. Ferrari SUV, due in 2021, won’t have visible rear doorsThe Italian brand continues to deny the existence of Ferrari SUV, but reports say it's coming in 2021 with hidden rear doors https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/ferrari-suv-due-2021-won%E2%80%99t-have-visible-rear-doors The long-rumoured Ferrari SUV is still on the cards, according to auto analyst Max Warburton, who claims the future model is being called an FUV (Ferrari Utility Vehicle) and does not have visible rear doors. Last month, Ferrari’s commercial boss Enrico Galliera told Autocar: “We are not producing an SUV, because an SUV is not a sports car – it can be fast, but it’s not a sports car. We are not producing a four-door because, while a four-door can be fast, it’s not a sports car.” He added: “Ferrari has to remain consistent, doing what we know to do, which is delivering cars that are able to deliver emotion. Sports cars.” However, Warburton claims it is a “question of semantics”, stating that while Ferrari management continues to tell investors that it will not build an SUV or a model with four doors, the rear doors will not be visible and will instead “use a clever hidden arrangement”. The model, expected to launch in 2021 and cost about £250,000, would rival cars such as the Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Cullinanand Aston Martin DBX. Warburton estimates that 2000 to 3000 units would be sold per year. While Ferrari continues to be evasive on the topic, a more practical model has huge potential for the Italian brand, given the trend for high-riding vehicles and the popularity of ultra-luxury SUVs worldwide, and particularly in the growing Chinese market. Competitors Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin are already far into development of their respective SUVs, while Bentley’s Bentayga accounts for a significant portion of its sales.

  4. my friend has this rare sports car, only one in singapore, he does not dare to service it at normal workshop because he scared those mechanics not well versed with the car and later cause more problems. does anyone know any reliable workshop that loves to tinker with those rare cars, e.g. classic vintage cars, kit cars etc. the mechanic must be willing to learn and most importantly treat it with care. my friend brought it to a previous workshop the last time and the mechanic spoiled his headlight cover because he simply did not know how to open it. i cannot divulge the exact car model because it will expose my friend and he is those low profile type. all i can say is it is a continental marque. thanks for the guru's advice.

Youabian had a dream- to design a car that is unlike anything ever made before at the very top of the exotic luxury market. That car is the Youabian Puma, pictured above. That picture doesn’t quite show the size of this exotic wild beast, so check out the image from Jason Torchinsky of Jalopnik, who described the car, which costs $1.1m as “terrifying”, below: I personally find this car super ugly. And it is design by a cosmetic surgeon!
  8. The Lexus LFA is most definitely the first Japanese exotic supercar. Produced with a limited run of only 500 the car is Filled with incredible automotive technology and at almost S$1.25million, is an extremely expensive Toyota. Only a handful was brought into Singapore (around four units, if I am not wrong), and even if you have the cash to buy one, you probably would not get the chance to own one due to its scarcity. But don
  9. I am just wondering why premium cars like BMW/Merc etc have such high maintenance cost compared to mainstream brands. Then more exotic ones like Audi S5 or Porsche etc even higher. I am just thinking if these cars are built to be durable and reliable, why is the maintenance so expensive? Even premium engine oils don't cost that much and you don't change oil even 2-3K for such cars right? Of course, one reason is due to premium charges. Eg. agents like PML may charge you $600 or more for a new batt for your BMW but if you know where to get the batt, even a Varta Silver Dynamic batt cost much less than that. Another reason is that such cars may not be actually that reliable...... I have my experience with old BMW e36 and e39 cars. I feel they are not exactly durable compared to Jap cars (of that time). Many parts like radiator, water pump, bushings etc do not have long lifetime. After a certain mileage must change already. I also read that the old Porsche 944 is not exactly reliable and has very high maintenance cost, causing many people to give up their 944s after sometime. thus, if these cars cost alot more than mainstream cars, shouldn't they be more reliable and durable and hence cost less to maintain in the long run?

  12. Is it really to make money or is it because of a passion for cars? Cause making exotic cars is not as profitable as making mainstream one and some are not even making money. Most of the exotic car companies belongs to big companies that makes mainstream cars other than privately owned..... Tata -> Jarguar Lambo -> VW Bentley -> VW Ferrari -> Fiat Bugatti -> VW Think Porsche is the only one not owned by a company and has share in VW. Thus I just wonder if these cars are created for the passion or for economic reasons?
