  1. Anyone know where to get supercharger oil in Singapore ? Its for a friend's Mini Cooper S. Seems real hard to find locally. I ordered some from Amazon but shipment is late and it is needed urgently as the supercharger is off the car and re-assembly can't start. Any help appreciated. Thanks !
  2. With the recent introduction of an open-top concept of the Toyota 86 at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, it seems that Toyota have been rather busy with their new model. And at the same time, they are considering to launch a top range version of the Toyota 86 that will be powered by a hybrid drivetrain. Tetsuya Tada, Toyota's chief engineer, has stated that designers at the Japanese auto firm have already begun work on the 86's mid-cycle facelift. The facelift model will receive some changes on the bodywork and on top of that, there will be a more powerful version of the car. It will use either a turbocharger, a supercharger or an effective hybrid powertrain that will squeeze every last horsepower out of the boxer engine. Tada also mentioned that a hybrid solution is highly possible and will bring benefits that forced induction devices do not. Additionally, he also stated on why the company did not release a more powerful version of the Toyota 86 and also a convertible model immediately after its launch. The management considered the 86 a huge risk and they needed proof that the sports coupe would hit sales target before they agree on a convertible and a powerful variant of the car. Since now they have that proof, the management can think of new ways to develop the car. If Toyota agrees on the hybrid solution, the petrol/electric powertrain will be considered a simple and inexpensive choice as they already have that technology. One of the things that they need to consider is the extra weight these hybrid powertrains pose.
  3. Just recently, Subaru revealed the Subaru BRZ STI at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. The car is said to be available for sale soon. And soon after that, the company announced that there are plans to release a turbocharged version of the car. While Toyota has released a TRD version of the 86 before this, the car only received aftermarket cosmetic parts such as a bodykit, suspension system and some TRD badges. Many were expecting a turbocharger or supercharger to be included as well. Just days after images of a Subaru BRZ wearing a huge GT wing and a STI bodykit was spotted at the Nurburgring, Toyota's in-house tuning division, TRD, has announced that they are looking into upgrades for the Scion FR-S (Toyota 86 in other markets). During the recent SEMA auto show, Scion showcased three modified examples of the Scion FR-S and a couple of them were supercharged. And it was at the same show where TRD representatives stated that they are considering a supercharger kit for the Scion FR-S. Toyota has previously offered supercharger kits for their sports or performance cars and even some of their trucks. And it comes as no surprise that a supercharger kit will be available for the Scion FR-S. The idea of a supercharger kit for the car is still very much in the planning stage and obviously no power figures were given. One of the advantages of having a TRD supercharger kit is that it offers a full factory warranty by the company and other aftermarket offerings do not often offer that. Since the Scion FR-S (including the Toyota 86) and the Subaru BRZ are practically identical, the supercharger kit should be able to be used for all three cars. Image credit: Net Car Show
  4. When someone is considering a performance mid-size luxury sedan, probably they will look at something like the BMW M5 or the Audi S6. If that person prefers a Japanese car, then he or she will be left with very little choices. How little are those choices? Probably close to nothing. But, fret not because Japanese luxury automaker, Lexus is bringing a supercharged GS350 F Sport to SEMA. And on top of that, the company might consider adding a more powerful version of the GS in the near future. The supercharged GS350 F Sport is a collaboration between Lexus and Californian auto tuner, VIP Auto Salon. The car receives a custom Apexi supercharger kit. Other than this, an Apexi throttle recalibration system and a dual exhaust pipe that stretches from the headers all the way to the back are added too. To cope with the extra horsepower, a Brembo High Performance GT brake kit and RSR coilovers are fitted on all four corners. 20 inch Vossen wheels replace the stock ones and the wheels are wrapped in Yokohama S Drive tyres. On the outside, the car is fitted with a custom made aero bodykit from Japanese tuner Wald International. The kit consists of a lip spoiler, side skirts and roof and trunk lid spoilers. No power figures were released at the moment but my guess it would be around the mid 400bhp mark. Just last year, Lexus unveiled the GS350 F Sport at SEMA. Although it may have a different look from the normal GS but in terms of performance; it is pretty much the same. Consumers might not be impressed with a car like that especially with a sporty sounding name. The introduction of the supercharged GS350 F Sport is probably Lexus
  5. [extract] Jaguar recently announced that its upcoming F-Type sports car will be showcased in production form at the 2012 Paris Auto Show next month. When ready, the car will be launched in convertible form and a coupe version will follow suit. The company also confirmed that the F-Type will come in three different engine options which will include a supercharged V8. The base model will feature the company
  6. [extract] The all-aluminum V6 unit has a 3.0-litre capacity and is tuned for either 340hp or 380hp. It is derived from the brand
  7. Performance cars usually rely on large displacement engines that deliver high power. But technologies such as turbocharging and direct injection have changed things nowadays and Ford is looking at a more powerful version of its 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine. Ford officially introduced its 1.0 litre turbocharged three cylinder EcoBoost engine late last year. It was developed by Ford engineers in the United Kingdom and the engine generates around 123bhp. The engine will be used in the Ford Focus and a 100bhp version will be introduced in Ford models such as the C-Max, Grand C-Max and B-Max. Normally, we won
  8. I just wanted to announce, that after so long, I finally got a super charger for this lao pok. Cannot compare to some of you that are TFSI with electric engine and nitrous boost, but hey - supercharger!! Woot.
  9. Recently I just bought a dyson vacuum cleaner and was surprise to that the motor spin @ about 104000 rpm which can match the rpm of some turbos. Its a handheld vacuum so I dun think it draw much current (got to check). So I did some research and found this article (http://www.electronicsweekly.com/Articles/2003/10/15/30961/dyson-sweeps-up-vacuum-cleaner-market-with-100000rpm.htm) claiming that it is capable of producing 4.3PSI which is about 0.3bar. Some websites references states that every PSI will increase the power by 7% (need to verify) so 4.3PSI will increase the car performance by 30%. Wat is ur take on this?? http://www.dyson.com.sg/range/feature_fram...del=DC16-ANIMAL

  11. Superchargers or Turbochargers The addition of superchargers or turbochargers to a vehicle may adversely affect the safe operation and its exhaust emission characteristics. Therefore, LTA would require the following to be submitted for evaluation: a) Technical specifications and installation details (including pictures and drawings) of the proposed supercharger or turbocharger. b) Certification from the vehicle manufacturer stating that the supercharger or turbocharger is suitable for the vehicle on a per make and model of the vehicle. c) Certification or test reports from LTA/NEA recognised test laboratories to show that the turbocharger or supercharger when fitted to the vehicle on a per make and model basis complied with prevailing exhaust emission standards. ................................................................................ ........................ It seems there have been kits that have received LTA approval before but the rules are quite stringent. BTW can anyone CONFIRM what is the penalty for installing a supercharger/turbocharger? A lot of confusion and some say both equates to same offence/penalty while some say supercharger is a more serious penalty. Just a fine or impounding of vehicle?

  19. Performance Gurus, Spending $$$ on CAI and others only yield so much more HP. Warranty, legal issues aside., would it make sense to bolt on a supercharger kit on a 1NZ-FE (Auto/CVT) engine? How much more HP would it yield in reality ? Would it cause long term structural damage ? etc PS: The 1NZ-FE produces maximum power of 107 hp at 6,000 rpm ( from my expert vendor) Thanks, Neotan
