    Mini Cooper queries

Hi asking for my dad. For the Non-S Cooper, how is the maintenance like? Fuel consumption, insurance and regular servicing cost (AD versus outside workshops) ? If getting used, anything to look out for? Thanks!

    Mini JCW

Dear all, Thinking of getting a JCW, the 3 door version. Is there anything that I should watch out for? Is the extra power worth the premium? I heard that the post 2014 versions are more reliable, is that correct? Thanks for answering this noob’s questions. :) Cheers
  4. Spotted a Mini Cooper in Punggol with no car plate behind. Camo pattern paint with super dark windows. Anyone seen before?
  5. Mini says that it has stepped out of the ‘retro’ design philosophy and is embarking on a new era of design that will see the brand progress with a new distinct flavour that still maintains the core DNA of the brand’s iconic styling. Speaking to the Australian media at the Frankfurt motor show last week, the senior vice president of Mini, Sebastian Mackensen, said that with the appointment of a new head of design, the company is embarking on a new design challenge, one which remains critical to the brand as the styling of its vehicles are hugely important to its customer base. “The design is of utmost importance because Mini is a lifestyle brand,” Mackensen said. “I don’t like that word too much… but in the meaning of that word it is a lifestyle brand you don’t buy transportation, if you purchase a Mini if you want to drive from A to B, you can buy many different vehicles if you want to do that for smaller cost… so if you drive a Mini you buy emotion and driving fun and you also buy a certain statement and belonging to a brand, and part of that brand statement is not just the heritage and history of the brand but clearly as well the design.” According to Mackensen, changes coming to the brand will be noticeable however even a six-year-old child should be able to tell what is a new Mini from having been able to identify the current and older vehicles. “If he wouldn’t see a Mini driving around a corner and wouldn’t say a Mini, we would’ve made a mistake in the design but that doesn’t mean a Mini needs to look the same for 20 years in a row, that’s a fine line and I think we need to progress, every brand every design needs to progress but you need to have certain anchor points and staples that you shouldn’t play with.” As of this month, Mini has appointed Oliver Heilmer as its new head of design, having taken over from the previous boss Anders Warming who set off to design for the reborn Borgward marque. Meanwhile, any plans of Mini creating a larger model in the future appear to have been shelved, with the brand focusing on its core models and even further reducing its model range going forward. “We have no plans to stretch that further right now… We have reduced actually the complexity of the portfolio in recent years, because the Mini Paceman, the Roadster and the Coupe didn’t get successor models and we are happy with that decision because it’s the niche of the niche.” Mackensen admitted that whilst markets such as Australia may be able to absorb large Mini models, it’s still not on the brand’s agenda. “When we go into size, you might be able to absorb a bigger Mini but we have no plan to do a bigger mini beyond a Countryman.” Changes to the Mini design philosophy under Heilmer will become more apparent and visible with upcoming concept vehicles and future models.

More photos of the new MINI Cooper

Having sampled the excellent F56 Cooper S when we went up to KL to interview the talented men that created the cool MINI Cooper S video, I was looking forward to drive the lesser Cooper. Lesser? Maybe not. While it may have 56 less horses and one cylinder less, it is by no means slow or boring. The car also takes 7.8 seconds to hit the century mark, which is 1.1 seconds faster than its distant sibling in the family, the BMW 116i hatcback. Putting the car into SPORT mode makes it even more alert. Go-kart feel? Definitely feels like it, with its compact dimensions and well-sorted handling. I especially like the way the rear tries to assist in turning and its agility. And then when you try to poke deeper into its menus, you can see sweet little details that make the driver smile. Like, instead of naming it 'Sport Displays', MINI calls it 'Driving Excitement'. Which will then show how much power and torque you are trying to put to the wheels. For the eagle-eyed, this photo is from a Cooper S ;) Another nice touch is this bright red start-stop toggle. Elsewhere in the cabin, you will find useful spaces which would prove useful in storing stuff on your B-road blasts across the Causeway. While the pure MINI fans may disagree, moving the window controls to where they should be is one of the best improvement for the F56 MINI in my opinion. So is the Cooper lesser than a Cooper S? Not at all! I barely miss the extra poke and it might actually ride better than its more well-endowed brother while being just as fun to pilot. Like they say, less might indeed be more. Read the full review of the MINI Cooper here.
  10. We have seen the new MINI Cooper on various media platforms. And now MINI has presented the Cooper S in a short film - to let viewers catch a glimpse of what the real deal is about. The new car's styling is more evolution than revolution, with the hatch taking on conventional proportions which makes it instantly recognisable as the motoring icon. Despite retaining the classic MINI design, the new car has grown - 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also been extended by 28mm - with wider tracks at the front and rear. These changes should give it the dynamic handling characteristics which the hatch is known for. In the aim of better functionality, the new MINI has 'lost' the iconic central speedometer. Electric window switches are also moved to the door cards for 'better ease of operation'. Looks like MINI is all out to tackle the mass market here. Now jump to the video below to catch the Cooper S - and listen to the sweet exhaust noise from the hot hatch. http://dai.ly/x1gtvke

  12. Hi ppl! Mini Cooper has always been my dream car (somehow just like this small & cute car). Having searched online for the past few days, I've more or less decided to get myself a 2nd hand (abt 5 years old) Mini Cooper S / Cabriolet. Any owner of Mini Cooper S / Cabriolet that can advise on the performance or sturdiness of the car? Any issue with the turbo charged engine? Or maybe the convertible top? Etc. Any feedback / advice is welcomed & much appreciated. Cheers.
  13. Some cuties inside also.

    Mini Rocketman

[extract] When the new Mini first emerged around 10 years ago, it was only available in one body type. In other words, there was only one model; the Mini hard-top hatchback. It was offered in several engine variations and trims (Cooper S, John Cooper Works, One, etc.). Five years later, the new Mini was offered in convertible form. Consumers did not have much choice when they look at the new Mini. It was either a hard-top version or a convertible. But starting from 2008, Mini has added two new models. Firstly, it was the Mini Clubman which was basically the estate or elongated version of the Mini hard-top hatchback. Two years later came the Mini Countryman. It was a crossover SUV and the company

    Mini 2012 London Olympics range

It is just a matter of months for the 2012 London Olympics to take place; Mini has released a limited edition of Olympics-inspired Mini Cooper. The cars will hit the road as early as March next year and Mini will only built 2012 units of it. The London 2012 Edition models will come in one of three Union Jack-themed colour schemes which are Chilli Red, White Silver or Lightning Blue. All three will feature white mirror caps, a white roof with the London 2012 logo, and a Union Jack stripe running over the bonnet, roof and rear of the car. The cars will also get specially designed grey 17-inch conical spoke alloy wheels, which are not available on any other model. Inside, a picture of the London skyline is etched across the piano-black dashboard, featuring landmarks like the Tower Bridge and the London Eye. And the patriotic theme extends throughout the cabin: the black leather seats get red, white and blue stitching, as do the headrests, handbrake and floor mats. All models feature extra options such as Lounge Leather sports seats, DAB radio, air-conditioning, cruise control, and chrome interior touches. Start-stop and brake regeneration also come as standard. These cars will be released in the UK and there is no word on whether will they be released overseas. Prices in the UK will start at

    The Mini Cooper questions.

As I may be moving soon to Europe, & I am looking for an affordable, small, decent looking, & fun car....(while I save up for the big boys later when financial allows & more used to the road conditions there). If everything ho say, I will be living around 100km from the ring, & I can see myself lapping it once in a while, or drive up the ALPS. so I hope for something decent & handles well. The Mini Cooper S is selling at well below 10k Euros now used in Germany. So I thinking of a mini, so here are some questions. 1) Which is the best version. Is it the mini cooper s? 2) Which is better, Manual or auto, thoughts? 3) What is the tuning potential for the mini. The official U.K webby state 0-100 at 7 sec (manual), it is possible to mod to say 5 sec. Realistic target? 4) What is the webby of Mini club in Singapore. 5) Any thing I should look out for? 6) Any other cars I should consider too? On a side note. I may be looking to sell my evo 9 soon. Thanks.
  19. Hi All, Came across Cooper Tires being sold by Tyrepac. The prices seem to be on the cheaper side. There are a few series available and it is MADE IN ASIA. Is this a China Tyre? The top model thread pattern looks similar to GT Champiro, the Indonesian tyre.

  21. The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS 2011) that is to be held at Detroit early 2011 will be where BMW Mini launches its new Mini Paceman coupe concept. This 'maxi' Mini, is based on the Mini Countryman, a crossover SUV that looks like a Mini, but is really not very Mini in size (in reality closer in size and type to the Nissan Qashqai). Nowadays the lines between a coupe and an SUV must be so blurred that you can actually design a coupe from an SUV. These are indeed troubling times we live in. Anyway, the Countryman coupe or Paceman is a showcase that should appeal to the
