  1. A serious Taycan competitor is on the way but... ... official production has yet to be confirmed. Polestar 5 Touted as a GT, the five-door electric liftback won't have a rear window but that shouldn't be much of an issue given how advanced rearview cameras are nowadays. Nevertheless, some people might be put off by the absence of rear glass (just like me). It has a rakish, coupe-like roofline and a more practical tailgate compared to the Taycan and its sister model, the Audi E-Tron GT, which both have a trunk lid. Compared to the concept, it has lost the ultra-slim side cameras and suicide doors while gaining a B-pillar and smaller wheels. To be manufactured in China, this not-a-Volvo EV is slated to benefit from StoreDot's "extreme fast charging" (XFC) technology. It promises to juice up the battery enough for 100 miles (160 kilometers) of range in only five minutes without inflicting battery degradation. Prototypes will be tested with the new tech in 2024 but it remains to be seen whether it'll be available for production vehicles from day one. Polestar 6 The Polestar 6 isn’t going into production until 2026 but that doesn’t mean the automaker doesn't have exciting plans for its electric roadster. Initially, Polestar announced that it would build just 500 examples of the open-top grand tourer but it seems that it has decided to change its strategy – production will be now based on demand. And we already know the demand for the 6 is strong. Within a week after the car’s August 16 production announcement, all 500 build slots received a reservation. Reserved build slots aren’t exactly sales, but they indicate a strong interest in the production version of the electric roadster. The company’s CEO Thomas Ingenlath confirmed in a recent interview with Autocar that Polestar “would not stop at 500 if people want it.” In August this year, shortly after the debut of the Polestar 6, Ingenlath said that the first examples of the electric grand tourer will be delivered to the initial 500 reservation holders. This process will begin at some point in 2026 and once the cars are handed to their new owners, the automaker will move to regular production based on demand. Polestar’s CEO described the 6 as an electric roadster “that appeals to even the most die-hard petrolheads” and said there’s already “high interest from our customers.” At least on paper, the Polestar 6 is impressive. The roadster with a folding hardtop roof is based on the same 800-volt EV architecture that also underpins the Polestar 5. It is powered by a dual-motor powertrain, good for 884 horsepower (650 kilowatts) and 900 Newton-meters of torque. This is enough power for a 0 - 100 kilometers per hour acceleration in just 3.2 seconds. The top speed is electronically governed at 250 kph.
  2. This new SL-Class has strong hints of the AMG GT, but better execution overall. Finally the BMW 8 series has a strong competitor... Mercedes-AMG SL 55 4MATIC+ Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ The new Mercedes-AMG SL, the new edition of an icon, returns to its roots with a classic soft top and sporty character. At the same time, the luxurious roadster as a 2+2 seater is particularly suitable for everyday use and puts its power down on the road with all-wheel drive for the first time. High-tech components such as AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with active anti-roll stabilization, rear-axle steering, and optionally available AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system are available. In combination with the Handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, this results in a driving experience of the highest order. As a consistent Performance Luxury model, Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach has developed the SL completely independently. Two models with AMG V8 engines will kick off the market launch. Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its debut in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend. The successful racing car was followed in 1954 by the 300 SL production sports car (W 198), which is called the "Gullwing" because of its unusual doors. In 1999, a jury of motoring journalists voted it the "Sports Car of the Century." Other highlights of the model history include the "Pagoda" (W 113, 1963-1971), the evergreen R 107 (1971-1989), which was built for 18 years, and its successor, the R 129, which is considered an automotive sculpture because of its striking wedge shape. The abbreviation "SL" to this day thus stands for one of the few genuine automotive icons in the world. In the decades-long development history from full-blooded racing car to open-top luxury sports car, the new Mercedes-AMG SL now sets another milestone. It combines the sportiness of the original SL with the unique luxury and technological excellence that characterize modern Mercedes models. "The SL is an icon: For almost 70 years, the distinctive sports car has delighted Mercedes customers of every generation around the world. With the rebirth of the roadster from Mercedes-AMG, the new SL more than ever remains the symbol of this timeless fascination," says Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales "The new SL combines the sporty genes of the original SL with the driving performance typical of AMG. At the same time, it offers luxury and comfort at the absolute top level. This combination is unique in the sports car segment and is also reflected in the interior - where the highest levels of comfort and quality meet the right helping of sportiness. The high-quality combination of analogue world and state-of-the-art digital equipment makes it clear that the new SL is the rebirth of an icon for the modern era," says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH "With the new SL, we have created a repositioning of the iconic SL design. The expressively modelled exterior conveys a light and purist impression and brings sensual beauty and extravagant design into perfect harmony," says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group "We at Mercedes-AMG consider it a great honor to have had the privilege to develop the new edition of this sports car icon. When we were tasked with the overall development of the new SL, we were able to start from scratch without building on an existing structure. We are proud of the result, which once again demonstrates the high level of engineering expertise in Affalterbach. The new 2+2 concept combines agile driving dynamics with a high level of comfort and unrestricted suitability for everyday use," says Jochen Hermann, Chief Technical Officer of Mercedes-AMG GmbH With its exciting design, state-of-the-art technology and outstanding driving characteristics, the new Mercedes-AMG SL sets standards in the luxury sports car segment. The exterior design fascinates with a perfect triad: it combines the modern Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity with the sportiness typical of AMG and characteristic details. The two power bulges on the hood are just one of numerous features reminiscent of the first SL generation. The interplay of light and shadow makes the overall appearance visually light and low. It is clear at first glance that the new SL has returned to its sporty roots. In the top model SL 63, the engine develops 577hp and provides a maximum torque of 800Nm over a wide rev range from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. The roadster's top engine thus conveys effortless superiority in every rev range. The acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in an estimated 3.5 seconds illustrates this. In the Mercedes-AMG SL 55, the V8 engine delivers 469hp and a peak torque of 700Nm. The sprint from standstill to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds. The further developed AMG 4.0-liter V8 engine still operates with biturbo charging, in which the two turbochargers are not located on the outside of the cylinder banks, but in between them in the cylinder-V. The advantages of the "hot inside V": a compact engine design, spontaneous response of the turbochargers and low exhaust emissions thanks to optimal airflow to the close-coupled catalysts. @Ody_2004 The VRN for that Red SL 63 is ...
  3. Randomly came across this article on the possibility of a BMW Convertible SUV, did some googling, thought itll be interesting to share. . https://www.motor1.com/news/243237/bmw-finds-convertible-suvs-interesting/ How entertaining is the idea of this? Taking a muscular and rugged SUV/Crossover body and mashing it up with a soft-top of a convertible car? SUVs have been massive in recent years, gaining more and more traction. Moving forward will we be seeing more automakers chopping off the roofs of their SUVs?? How weird is it, really? Pretty damn weird to me when you have 3 rows of seats, and with 7 to 8 people inside. Here's taking a walk down memory lane. Toyota Rav4 Convertible "The strange ugly car that everyone wants: The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet", as described on one automotive site. The Evoque. Arguable a lot less weird looking than the Murano. And then the upcoming, concepts and custom models. Upcoming Volkswagen T-Roc Cabrio, to begin production in 2020. Concept SUV Convertible Audi Q2 Cabrio illustration Lexus LX570.. this is a custom SUV Convertible in Dubai selling for USD350,000. JUST WEIRD... And then finally, someone had to do an illustration of the convertible version of the BMW X6... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnXMXBkuixA I wud think if someone buys an SUV it wud be for the boot space, the ruggedness of it, the ability to traverse all terrains, weather.... The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet has the boot space that's even lesser than a VW Beetle. And if you buy a convertible it's because you want people to be able to stare at you better, because you don't have a motorcycle license but you want to feel the wind, and you want to experience how it feels to drive under the rain..... Hahaha........................ And if you get a Convertible SUV, you get best of both worlds, not? Convertible SUVs aren't anything new but they're still weird and awkward. Maybe a BMW convertible can make me change my mind. but I low ses. So no money to buy anyway......................... My thread is titled BMW but content only 10% BMW because I want to win tix to BMW WORLD la. Haha.

  6. Hi ppl! Mini Cooper has always been my dream car (somehow just like this small & cute car). Having searched online for the past few days, I've more or less decided to get myself a 2nd hand (abt 5 years old) Mini Cooper S / Cabriolet. Any owner of Mini Cooper S / Cabriolet that can advise on the performance or sturdiness of the car? Any issue with the turbo charged engine? Or maybe the convertible top? Etc. Any feedback / advice is welcomed & much appreciated. Cheers.
  7. The 2014 Mercedes S-Class will be offered in three body styles which will underpin five models. The three body styles will have varying wheelbase length. The new line-up will include a new coupe model intended to go head to head with the Bentley Continental GT while the cabriolet version is being targeted at Continental GTC. According to a source from Autocar, "the front is a lot more aggressive and there's added structure to the flanks with a prominent drop line, a more rounded turret line and the rear overhang is significantly shorter". The standard and long-wheelbase versions of the new S-class will be revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year. The Pullman, which stretches over 5.7m, is expected to make its debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. The Pullman is likely to replace the Maybach 57 uber-luxury saloon, which will compete against the likes of the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Continental Flying Spur. The all-new S-Class will be equipped with a host of safety features such as rear seatbelt airbags, Active Parking Assist, Attention Assist and Distronic Plus. Photo Credit: worldcarfans.com

  10. Vehicle barn finds are getting common nowadays. Usually it would be an old ordinary car, nothing special and sometimes it could be an old vintage that can fetch thousands of dollars after getting it restored. But this barn find is somewhat special as the car found was a rare 1952 Ferrari 212 Inter Ghia Cabriolet. A scale model of the car. The Ferrari 212 Inter was built from late 1950 to 1953 and only 79 units were ever produced. The 212 Inter came at the time when Ferrari was moving towards production made cars. The 212 Inter models were built by 8 different coachbuilders and one of them was Italian automotive and coachbuilding design firm Carrozzeria Ghia. This particular one has a Ghia grille but judging from the body, it could be from another different builder and the hood is also different. A coupe version of the car. This car was recently found during an estate sale by a man from Michigan, USA named Bobby Goins. The car was found under a huge stack of boxes and Goins could only see the Ferrari emblem. He wasn

  13. Recently, I had the pleasure of celebrating my 30th year of existence and without much fanfare (my personal preference), it was a lovely evening spent with the family and loved ones. According to what most people were telling me, turning 30 does come with some caveats, even the Government felt that my current form of identification needed changing and sent me a letter requesting for a new photograph. (Which reminds me, I need to search for that letter again.) Some say, it all goes downhill from here. Some say, you stop counting once you hit 30 and every year after that, you can choose to stay 30. Sadly, my waistline has already gone past 30 year after year. As for those late night parties, forget them. I sometimes cannot even keep myself awake to watch the latest episode of Ancient Aliens. Partying is probably not that much fun now that I cannot tell young lasses that I'm still in my trendy twenties either. Oh my, getting on with age does seem to be somewhat dreary. But enough about me, here in the cusp of my hand, are the keys to a brand new BMW 6 Series. The first to carry the

  16. linkback: http://garage36.blogspot.com/2010/11/4-fun...-cabriolet.html A car that needs no introduction, the BMW 3 Series cabriolet. This time, with 2 fewer cylinders which means over 30 grand saved from the next model up the range. We've all seen the car plying our roads and with many grey-imported 4 cylinder Coupes and Cabriolets, Performance Motors has now seen fit to include this model in the showrooms. Hard to believe the basic design of the car is already 4years on and still going strong. The sleek lines are still there, but touched up and given a useful makeover to compete with new contenders in the segment. Crease lines on the bonnet, a new front bumper and LED rear lights are the most noticeable of these changes. Neat touches but the basic shape still remains largely intact. A giveaway to others that this car has the
  17. Saw a number of Opel Astra Twin Top 1.8 in used car, 2007 series selling at 70+K. Worth a buy?
  18. Will you park with your top down? I often see convertibles/cabriolets (porsches/bmw/slk) parked with top down at Central, Paragon carpark. Aren't the owners afraid that thieves might break into their glove box or steal their HU/leather seats etc? Aren't the owners afraid that vandals may vandalise the interior of the car? Aren't the owners afraid that some people may climb into their car for a feel? What about you? Just want to find out.
  19. Thought of getting this.... classic full size cabrio anyone has experience?
  20. Hi bros/sis, Would like to know the feedback for the 2003 - 2005 Beetle Cabriolet, maintenance wise, FC, quality of fit and finish, Noise Vibration Harshness etc. Thanx!!
  21. As above. Being used as 2nd car for weekends with pets. Thanks.
  22. So you're a Formula 1 driver for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro and you have the option of a company car. What do you choose? Fernando Alonso, a two time world champion and now a driver with Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro basically chose something not red and not a Ferrari. The Spanish driver had chosen a Maserati GranCabrio over Ferraris like the cabriolet Ferrari California or Gran Turismos like the the 599GT or even the 612 Scaglietti. Maybe after driving a Rosso Corsa coloured (that racing red) Ferrari for work Mr. Alonso has decided to go for something less flamboyant and more comfortable yet still within the Fiat Group but still without a fixed roof like the Ferrari he races for a living. Of course a Fiat 500cc would technically suffice but that would be too underwhelming for a world champion. So the GranCabrio with its elegant cabriolet fixtures, a darker shade of Grigio Granito (granite grey) for the exterior in combination with two-tone upholstery which is a combination of Pearl Beige and Bordeaux leather and a matching a soft top of the same shade is the champion's choice. A good choice of car (and colour) if you want to maintain some anonymity. It is luxurious yet understated as it won't turn as many heads as a red Ferrari, even with its top down. I love the looks of the hardtop GranTurismo version. It has taken Maserati a few years to develop it into a soft top but I have to say that this cabriolet version is a worthy addition to the Maserati stable. The Maserati GranCabrio is a Maserati with Pininfarina coachwork and has near supercar performance. The GranCabrio has a V8 engine of 4.7 liters and 440 hp with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Maserati says it can do 175mph with its canvas (only, no hard top) top up and does the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.3seconds. As I said, the 0-100km/h figures is only near supercar performance but as its a cabriolet it won't matter most people buy cabriolets to cruise top down at some seaside holiday resort at less than ballistic speeds. I suppose the additional 100kgs that was added when engineering the GranCabrio from the GranTurismo had blunted the acceleration a little. Although the hardtop wasn't very light in the first place as it weighed 1890kgs. Anyway, according to Maserati's media spokespeople, Mr. Alonso was particularly impressed by the space offered by the GranCabrio, perfect for four adult passengers. The GranCabrio is in fact the first four-seat convertible for Maserati. I noticed that most racing drivers always choose sensible cars to drive when they're not on the track. The late great Senna had a R107 500SL convertible as a daily driver instead of a out and out fire breathing monster. So I gather it is the same with Fernando Alonso. The Maserati GranCabrio is being marketed throughout Europe starting in this month of March. Expect to see them in Singapore sometime soon. But expect to see Fernando Alonso in Sepang within the next few weeks driving his usual workhorse instead of this Maserati.
  23. Its launched and looks good! http://www.mercnews.net/2010/01/world-prem...cabriolet-.html
