In my opinion, the SL is very Ah Pek. It may be fast but it looks big and lazy. No aggression.

Ya, the Z4 was launched at $210K. Perhaps the SLK 200 saves on road tax.

I think the SLK 350 V6 should be a sweet car but $4000+ for road tax? Urgh...

Anyway, time for a test drive to compare it with the Z4.

nowadays a lot of pple v rich

i'm not a fan of mercedes. haha i watch too much top gear thats why its true though. SLK has never been an exciting car. always reminded me of a luxury car company trying to build something to attract the younger customers. on the other hand, some SLs are truly exciting cars.

I'll never fork out 200k for a car though.

I have to check too, as a friend (mracer77 in the bmw forums) has this contact who brings in these cars. So far 2 have come in the PI way already from what I know.

 

personally i would prefer to stay away from PI especially for such cars where spares parts might not be so common.

...i also think tat the nail was hit on the head abt the SLK now being a "poor" man's SLR... somehow aftr the SL series and SLR was relaunched... the SLK seems to me as "low priority" if i got the dosh to buy this category of cars... for sure the SL/SLK will eat into each others territory... but please please give me a SL anytime!!!

 

while the SL and the SLK are both roadsters, they are positioned very differently in terms of pricing. The SL at around $405K (almost double that of the SLK) is way above my budget. (The SLR is outside my radar screen.)

ok i understand... but for those that have the DOSH to spend... tat dun give a damn abt costs but looks & power & style only?? which u think they choose... the SL or SLK??

 

 

one thing for sure that i am so far very surprised to see quite a few young ppl driving the SL... wearing baseball cap and all that... whether parents car or not im not sure la... but certainly something to be said cos in fact i have not seen an "AH PEK" driving an SL for all the SLs i seen on the roads so far...

My neighbourhood SLs are all driven by Ah Pek. Some wear baseball caps.

Their sons and daughters drive SLK. Wife drive E-class. Mistress drive CLK.

thanx for the info. Guess i ought to drive a 6-cylinder some time... And yeah, i've alwiz been supporter of NA. The sound is music. Turbos like the Evo sound shitty to me.

 

Do u guys who hav SLKs or Z roadsters have another car? cuz to have a 2 seater car as the main car is quite inconvenient isn't it?

Singles or young couples can get by with a roadster. Real difficult if only car and have children. Take taxi to go out together?

If I know I will be picking up more than one friend or need to haul some stuff, just take parents' cars. Alternatively, get friends to come pick you up in their car. BEST!

Yeah, asking em to pick me up sounds good. My fren has the previous SLK, v inconvenient, only can take 1 passenger. Meaning I alwiz hav to drive my car also cuz we go out in a group.
