Stary Turbocharged July 28, 2004 Share July 28, 2004 Guys.. Just want to ask....is the brake system in someway link with the throttle system? I realised that sometimes my brake can be low and spongy but sometimes, it can be be pretty high and tight too. However, when that happens..the accelerator feels the same way too....light and smooth when the brake is low and spongy but stiff when the brake is high and tight. Are these two systems related in some parts? ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear July 28, 2004 Share July 28, 2004 Nope! No link between the throttle and the brake system.
Stary Turbocharged July 28, 2004 Author Share July 28, 2004 how about this? The brake has a safety mechanism that release the AT gearbox. Meaning need to step on the brake before you can move "P" to "D". Now assuming this mechanism is faulty and causes some issues to the gearbox.... Would this somehow affect the throttle system? Genie47 1st Gear July 28, 2004 Share July 28, 2004 Well it is a safey mechanism but this in no way suggests that the throttle is linked to the brakes.
Ace_t Neutral Newbie July 28, 2004 Share July 28, 2004 as far as I know, the 2 systems are not linked. yr brake pedal being spongy and hard (staying focus here.. ) would depend on the load to your alternator. hope u can understand what I mean... Stary Turbocharged July 28, 2004 Author Share July 28, 2004 (edited) No i dun think they are link together either....but afraid they might be indirectly affected due to fault of some other parts. I got a feeling something is not right with the gearbox because sometime when on from cold...the gearbox has a tick-tuk sound..... Stary Turbocharged July 28, 2004 Author Share July 28, 2004 Bro..talking about the alternator....what exactly does it do besides charging back the batt?
Ace_t Neutral Newbie July 28, 2004 Share July 28, 2004 sustains the electrical load to your car... aka generator when the car's engine is running. such that your battery is not used at all during that time.
Godfinger Neutral Newbie July 28, 2004 Share July 28, 2004 Hi There are no likkages between the Throttle and Brakes. Throttle is for engine operation while brakes are for braking operation. The only time when you felt that the brakes are real stiff is when the engine is off. Thats to say there is no vaccum assistance in the brake servo and so you need great effort to step the brakes. Even then, the brakes may not be effective too. For larger vehicle ( 14ft lorry ), there is even exhaust braking which make use of exhaust gases to slow down the vehicle by creating a huge vaccum in the servo when the throttle is released. That is to say that you need not even step on the brakes and the vehicle will slow down sustaintaly. For what I see, stepping on brakes to shift the auto gate got nothing to do on the throttle system as it is an safety device to make sure that vehicle is stationary before shifting from 'P' drive. As for alternator, its main function is to charge the vehicle battery and to provide a source of electrical power when the engine is running. Present day alternator have built-in Regulator IC which prevents over-charging and under-charging bby regulating the voltage and current from the alternator to the batteries. to choke when throttle is released.
