Is it alright to have the cooling system work properly without the thermostat? Any disadvantages?

I dont advise you to remove the thermostat as what happen to me after a mech advised me to do long long ago. He say sp very hot so take it out car run cool.

An engine needs to be within a certain temp range to operate efficently. If its too cold like early starts or very cold weather, you won't have power & FC will suck.

If your thermostat faulty, just change it to one with same temp setting.

Oh, my car actually left around 1 more year, so my mechanic advised me just take out the faulty thermostat.

As what I understand, it will take longer for the engine to reach its optimum temperature la. That is the only drawback right?

Btw, how much will a thermostat cost for a jap car?

A new thermostat costs about $10 give or take, so just put a new one in.

If you drive without it, your warm up will take much longer & on cold days or nights, you will never reach your optimum temp. which will cause sluggish acceleration & high fuel compsumption.

My best advise is to put it in. All good & no drawbacks.
