Ah_veo Neutral Newbie August 11, 2004 Share August 11, 2004 oh,ok...tks bro. juz called SA. the lady said its ok, can wait till i hit the milege then book. btw, oso enquire abt servicing. 1k,5k & 10k sama sama. mainly change oil & oil filter. 1k & 5k using mineral($40) if bring own oil, will cost less than 10bucks. 10k servicing using syn oil(less than $100 even using their mobil oil). 20k is the killer....(almost $400) include plug change, air filter change & dryer(ask her what is that, she oso duno... ) applies to both optras & aveos. Cashiertan Neutral Newbie August 11, 2004 Share August 11, 2004 (edited) that cheap? the servicing by SA is as cheap as other distributor or even cheaper than some. Why ppl are spreading rumours that SA servicing and spare parts is more expensive than hyundai's? Edited August 11, 2004 by Cashiertan
The_ed Neutral Newbie August 11, 2004 Share August 11, 2004 I'm not sure about Hyundai, but compared to Toyota and Nissan, it does seem expensive. I asked SA what the cost of servicing is over 3 years and the answer was $2,800 including fully synthetic oil. By comparison over the same 3 year period, Toyota (lets say the Altis) is $1,770 at BM, and for Nissan (my ride now b4 I switch to Optra), it is $1,200. Ah_veo Neutral Newbie August 11, 2004 Share August 11, 2004 SA give 1st 3 free labour-servicing. so we only pay for parts.
Genie47 1st Gear August 11, 2004 Share August 11, 2004 (edited) Servicing at the dealer is for wusses . Should do DIY oil change, filter change, spark plug change and air filter change. A/C system, alignment and electricals best leave to the experts. Those DIY stuff should make everything a lot cheaper. But the 20k is mandatory for SA. Something to do with the A/C dryer. As someone has pointed out, the dryer should last really well and this servicing of it is just an excuse by SA to get you into the workshop. The warranty states that the 20k servicing must change the dryer to keep the warranty. Edited August 11, 2004 by Genie47

The_ed Neutral Newbie August 12, 2004 Share August 12, 2004 Cheap = good. The SA SE sort of mentioned 1st 3 years should go with dealer because of warranty issues, but I should read the fine print when I get my car regarding warranties.

Redeel Neutral Newbie August 12, 2004 Share August 12, 2004 Confirm liao... There are bearings, but no BALL bearings... Shesh, i should've known this, there was a lesson where i had to take them out and service them... Just didn't know they are called bearings... haha... For servicing, go by mileage, not timing. If you use synthetic and haven't hit 10k, no need to service yet. But a word of warning from my teacher... Synthetic Oils are for originally made for race cars, and it is strongly recommended to change your engine oil on schedule. If not it will start 'eating' into your engine parts and cause wear and tear. You won't feel it now if it's relatively new, but the car won't last very long without changing engine parts. eddie
