Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 1, 2002 Share November 1, 2002 Yeah that's one of my observation as I neglected waxing my brick once for 6months and the wipers actually juddered much lesser! After waxing however.... Also another point to note is if U see a whitish film form after each wiper sweep, that's silicon deposits. ↡ Advertisement
Aha8 Neutral Newbie November 6, 2002 Share November 6, 2002 I tried clay-bar the windscreen after wash and seems to work. But was not able to see the effect over time, yet.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 6, 2002 Share November 6, 2002 I tried the clay bar method too, temporary solution only for my brick....
Soya Supersonic November 6, 2002 Author Share November 6, 2002 "...I'm wondering if it's the windscreen design prob now, esp after reading that a few Volvo owners here have the same prob?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apparently, wiper judder is a common problem on Volvos in this part of the world as confirmed by SM Mtrs. They claimed that the wiper blades are designed to effectively handle snow, hence the wipes are very "clean" n "dry". However, tiny water residuals that would otherwise act like a lubricant on the return wipe are also eliminated. Hence the judder when the rubber blades glide along a dry surface. Good news is that a new "tropicalised" wiper will be made available by end of the month. Will be getting mine replaced F.O.C at SM Mtrs.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 6, 2002 Share November 6, 2002 Well I don't think it's the wiper blades as I've replaced mine with "tropical" Bosch blades, Trico and even OEM Volvo (made by Bosch) wipers all still no good....judder judder..... Hopefully SM can solve Ur judder problems, let us know the outcome!
Peterkoh Neutral Newbie December 18, 2002 Share December 18, 2002 Anyone tried one of those 3M polishing compound found in DIY stores ? It has different grades. I've tried Autoglym glass polish. Great for maintaining new windscreen but for mine with some sort of silicon deposits, it's not strong enough. Next thing i may try is those polishing liquid used for marble floor ... costs me $40+, meant to use it on my marble floor some 1-2 yr ago but still unopen. even got the polisher pad that attach to a drill. Thadeus6 Neutral Newbie December 18, 2002 Share December 18, 2002 Strange, I almost never get any judder and I use RainX all the time. I also have not replaced my wiper blades for more than 3 years and I park in an open car park. I do clean my wiper blades everytime I wash the car. One thing that I do with the blades is put a drop or two of this lubricant from 3M called 5-Way Penetrant. Seems to help soften the blade and keep it healthy. This lubricant is supposed to repel water and it is not silicon based. Works well and I will continue using it.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie December 18, 2002 Share December 18, 2002 Well I didn't have any luck with Rain-X and also my brick's windscreen was probably laden with silicon deposits. Now I have Rain-X windscreen wax on my Taurus and using Trico Teflon wiper blades, no judders
Vtim 3rd Gear December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 You have any info where I can get hold of this 3M 5-Way thing ?. I'm also having this Wiper Judder problem after appling the RainX
Saaber Neutral Newbie December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 don't use rain-x, the wiper will always judder. I am the early user of rain-x. The first time I use and the wiper judder. I threw away the whole bottle. Use dishwashing detergent to throuoghly scrub down the windscreen to remove the coating and the wiper will stop juddering. You can keep your windscreen clean frequently with this method. It sure works for me.
Geewhiz Neutral Newbie December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 Hi, I have always use Rain-X and found it to be quite good. for cleaning the windscreen, the trick seems to be that you use the Rain-X BEFORE you wash the car. i usually use a generous portion to clean the windscreen and wash the whole car with normal car shampoo/soap. After that, it looks like new, feels new too. perhaps, you or somebody can try it and confirm. cheers
Geewhiz Neutral Newbie December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 oops, I forgot to add, do not use wash and wax shampoo. Tt DOES not go with Rain-x. I think the wash and wax thing was mentioned in some earlier thread by Turbobrick.
Vtim 3rd Gear December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 I was also one of the earlier user of Rain-X. It was stated in the bottle that some wiper blade will encounter judder problem (I think only printed on the first generation type). It's useful when there is a heavy downpour, especially along NS highway, so I'm more or less immune to the judder part. It will be better if the judder part can be eliminated
Vtim 3rd Gear December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 Ok! will give it a try
Vtim 3rd Gear December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 wash & wax...I'll stay far away from it . Learn a lesson when I have my first car (back in 1990), the wind screen got coated with a layer of wax & it's very irritating to drive under strong sunlight or street lamps at night . IMO, should not use wash & wax at all on our car
Saaber Neutral Newbie December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 IMHO, just wash the windscreen clean with detergent is more than sufficient. Use Tar remover for stubborn stain and then use detergent to wash again. The windscreen will be sparkling clean and clear.
Vtim 3rd Gear December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 Well, the rain-x's water repelling effect is what I like, during Heavy downpour . very useful along NS hw
Saaber Neutral Newbie December 19, 2002 Share December 19, 2002 You can get the effect by polishing your windscrren with polish like autoglym resin polish..... ↡ Advertisement
