Oil cooler pipe

Hi,

 

Does anyone have any idea of a 'pipe' specialist shop that could fashion an oil cooler pipe - it runs hot engine oil to an oil cooler that's kinda like a little radiator? Cos mine's leaking a little and was wondering if there was an option besides ordering the rather expensive original ones. Thanks.

Don't know if it can be fabricated by pipes makers.

 

But oil cooler exists, and should be able to buy universal application for that.. I'm considering it, but not sure if it is good for engine or not..

 

If oil is cooled to less than optimal temperature, it is not good. Unless you know that your car has running temperature of higher than optimal.. I believe optimal engine temp is 185 F..

Well, mine came stock on the car - so I'd have to presume the engineers did figure the optimum temp bit. I've never had any overheating issues so I'd sure like to leave the oil cooler as it is.

 

If anyone knows any shops who do anything like that, let me know - I'll like to check them out. The problem seems to be terminating the hoses more so than finding a suitable hose.

But I kinda expect that in our climate, our engine temps would exceed their optimum most of the time...

 

Remembered that at my mechanic's garage (not even hot sun), after starting the engine and revving a bit, the cooling fans came on (mine starts > 94 deg C) just after about 2mins. That was with aircon off + bonnet open some more...

 

Especially important for those who have advanced their timing I believe??

Your mechanic should be able find some lobang to fabricate them. First, he need to measure the length of the pipes, then get it fabricated. However, it's not cheap.

hmm, the problem is i have bad experiences with mechanics, at least the ones i've used before, and thus i try to do my own maintenance/repairs as far as possible. of course some repairs are plain impossible without the right tools and sometimes there's just no time to get your hands dirty but in this case, since the leak's very mild, i thought i'll do some sourcing around first.

 

never had overheating problems with my car - but i must say i haven't got the chance to drive at 5000rpm in fifth on smokin' hot days :)

Well, if you DIY, you can disconnect the pipe and check out Sin Ming, Ubi etc for ppl that fabricates the piping. I'm sure there are many around.

You may want to check with Fluid-Tec, they supply pipe & fittings to the offshore industry. They're at Penjuru, also suppose to have a branch in Toa Payoh, but I'm not sure if it's still there.
