Brake Job

For FWD...I think its closer to 80:20 (F:R).

But with hatches, it may be higher ratio for the front...something to do with a different weight distribution.

For RWD...if I'm not wrong...it's about 60:40 to 70:30.

read it somewhere....may have even come from a computer game [:p][laugh]

...maybe I should be a little more specific.

Actual brake force for front and rear brakes may not have that much of a difference, with 50:50 to 60:40 ratios more common.

But under braking, brake distribution occurs due to the transfer of the car's weight from rear to front, resulting in more brake force required in the front.

Cars often have a proportioning valve (or something like that) that increases brake force to the front brakes progressively.

This ensures that the front wheels don't lock up too quickly (with too much force applied initially) as well as giving sufficient braking strength as more speed is shed and more weight is transferred forward.

That's why the resultant brake distribution is more front biased. [;)]

read this somewhere online.....but can't seem to find the article now.

My internet connection at work is so slow..... [:p]

cheers

$700 including installation? I think you can get used disc from scrapyard. Then get a workshop to install for you.

I would never consider a used rotor. IMO, these stuffs are too important to go for 2nd hands. Too much is at stake here.

Just my $0.02.

true true...

but what to do? there are just no new drum to brake conversion kits out there for our cars [:/]

Neutral Newbie

Thanks for the pointer - I stand corrected... [:p][nod]

Actually, when we asked the last driver why he couldn't stop in time (cos we weren't really going very fast), his verbatim comments was "I don't know lah...I think in the morning I never pump my brakes enough"... [:|][dizzy] Now what do you make of that?? [:/]

In any case, I already got back my car with new bumper and all - also car was polished and it looks spanking new!! In fact, it still smells of fresh paint...[thumbsup][:)][sunny][angel]

Yeah man, you have a point there. Before this I always thought that the rotors are "indestructable" and can last a lifetime. Just need to get good brake pads!

I did considered getting the disc drilled, for about $200. But decided against it, coz if anything goes wrong, that's a high price to pay!

Can't you install the MX's rear disc to your car?

During a C&C workshop for Kia cars, I asked the engineering adviser if I could buy the rear disc of the Kia Mentor, and the entire ABS system, to install in my car. He just refused to, saying that it won't fit! For the record, C&C market the Mentor with ABS, all wheel-disc brakes, and twin airbags. But the Sephia gets rear drums, no ABS and no airbags!

Non-commital answer mah. Remember, it's always someone else or the car's fault, not mine! [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Hoah..................that was FAST! [sweatdrop] Great! [thumbsup]

I had the same impression too, until my rotors wore out in 2 years. [sweatdrop] Over this time, I've used 2 sets of pads. [:p]

Unless the machinist is damn skilled, getting the rotors drilled is a no-no. IMO better get a slotted rather than X-drilled rotors. Drilled ones are subjected to micro-cracks around the holes. Anyway, you can get a pair of slotted rotors for less than $300! Brembo Max was selling for less than $200 a set! So why bother! [sly]
