Will be tough to compete with the likes of Rava & of course AIRTREK in my opinion. WHo is bringing the HUMVEE in to Singapore?

I think the Humvee is possibly 2 car's width ah.. shakehead.gif

but it is a cool off-roader... the Grand Cherokee can move one side already..

This sucker is expensive! US$50+k for a bulletproof truck, that's alot to pay considering it'll not fit many carparks, roads and driveways [laugh]

I saw a handful around my home and school, a yellow one in particular damn striking! [cool][sunny]

Actually, the HumVee's genes go all the way back to the 'humble' Jeep which was the most widely used army vehicle:

AM General (remember AmericanMotorsCorp which built the AMC Javelin?), used to own Jeep and also built 1-ton army vehicles for other applications like troop transport, ambulances, etc - 15 configurations in all. Over time, the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) arrived, proved popular with the US Army, and was commonly called 'humvee' by the troops.

The first civilian version, called the 'Hummer', was built in 1992, and Arnold Schwarts-what's-his-name was credited with pushing AM General to producing it. It was marketed and sold by GM (~USD100K) as "The Ultimate 4x4". Climbs rocky slopes (where other mere 4x4s fear to tread), crosses 5-ft deep streams, survives desert heat or Artic cold. It quickly gained cult status.

The HumVee [H2], at USD50K, was meant to be a less extreme, but still 'brute' alternative to the Cadilac Escalade / EXT

[see the size of the spare wheel next to the rear seat!!! Then, imagine the size of the H2]

The original military version would be the big brother, Hummer. This is the 'softie' version. Still, its nothing less than an external Viagra !!! sly.gifsly.gifsly.gif

"...it'll not fit many carparks, roads and driveways laugh.gif "

Definitely meant to be parked out on the streets, especially where there's double yellow lines, daring the "..."s to clamp the wheels - if they have any that fits !!! sly.gif

The Humvee is the He-Man of off-roaders and RAV4 and Airtrek are soft-roaders so cannot be compared...................

thanks for the pics [thumbsup]

toyota has a look-alike gaint offroader also.....

i once sat in one taiwanese army Humwee while doing my reservist in a two nation army exercise there: boy, it's huge inside, i could put my military map (equal to two A3 size paper) on the 'console' box between the two front seats and still had space to spare !!!!........ the roof is about the ht of tall saloon car, but the ground clearance is at least 15 inches ........... [jawdrop] and i think it comes with a 7litre+++ engine..
