Hi all,

Just cleaned my K&N filter yesterday and had re-oiled the dirty side of the filter. But do not know if the clean side have to be oiled as well. Had heard bad response to over oiling of the filter but also knew that the K&N filter does not filter properly if it is not oiled. So need advice from more experience bros on whether need to oil both sides of the filter. The instructions with the box never say about this. Thanks.

check out the link above.

btw, r u using a panel or cone filter? i assume u have used the KNN filter cleaning kit which i highly recommend u to use it to prolong the life of the filter.

basically, any part of the cotton part which is still white means it has not been oiled properly so you can still dab gently on such areas to oil it. based on this principle, check if the other side is already red in colour (the KNN oil is red). if both sides are already 100% red when you oil on 1 side, then there is no need to oil the other side.

suggest that you leave the filter to sit around for a day or two for the oil to be soaked in properly and for excess oil to drip off. let it rest on a few sheets of newspaper.

To oil the filter is to make a pass thru the filter. Meaning that each pleat just make a pass of the oil thru it.

Wait for the oil to seep thru...dun overoil it by oiling the filter over and over again...if not you will have a oily throttle body later.

After oiling for 10 mins or so....inspect and see if you miss any spots. If so, just dab the oil over the effected area.

Thanks for the replies. right now, letting the filter sit around on newspaper. Thing is if I dap dry newspaper, can get some oil droplets absorbed onto newspaper. Wonder if have over oiled. If tomorrow still feel it is too oily, will wash filter again and redo oiling. [thumbsdown]
