Good question... I think it's difficult to DIY... Especially conti cars... I believe.

actually tried to change the LEDs on the dash...VW..uses this special square LEDS that are about 4mm....on the last count there were about 36 leds to swap out...no assurance that the control panel won't short out during the process...control panel cost about 1200...risky change IMHO... all other places would still be green..i.e. main control on driver's door...auto mirror control switch...power window buttons...if you want to have the uniform look all must change....

I know there's a post in here somewhere about changing the dashboard lights from stock colours to other colours that we want... But problem is, that post isn't for our Skoda car... anyone here has change their dashboard colour? Care to share ur experiences?

I wanna change my dashboard light to match those BMW one... is it possible?

 

i changed mine to blue background with red needle. cos mi 60. got the contact from yahoo. n he personally drive down to my place to detach out my whole meter.took 1 day to fix. still remember had to drive without all the meters for one day. haha.... n he send back to my place to fix back for mi.... good service, but i lost his number liao. can try search for him in yahoo. he specialise in headlight n bodykit for van.

Heya bro, speaking from experience (don't ask why my new octy has had its speedo taken out and put in more times than a geylang pros) you should not be able to short circuit your meter just by changing your LED bulbs. The current draw is very neg even if you use a different kinda LED bulb, just so long as its LED.

 

Only thing is, the meter construction is VERY SENSITIVE. No loose wires or anything but like one of d brudders said, you gotta make sure hands are very clean and DRY!! or else really your meter will go then you might as well say then cos the new meter sells for $1800, least I've ever got is $1600 from autovox. Luckily I managed to salvage mine.

 

But not to worry. If something REALLY does go wrong, find someone skilled in soldering and join the points back again. Tedious but doable. good luck

Errr.. your topic says change dashboard color. To do that you just need to remove the dashboard and send to a spray painter!

If you can lay hands on a 2nd-hand speedo/dashboard, you could pull along some kakis to operate on it. Figure out how to disassemble the unit and change the LEDs. Then work on your own dash.
