Car batt lifespan

I'm now using the Alpha Pholon Carbon Black CB103 batt additive. It's supposed to lengthen the batt's lifespan by dissolving the sulphation buildup back into useable sulphuric acid.

I've been emailing a dealer for this product for more info, and he claimed that with this additive, his Pajero using a Kancil-sized batt lasted him 3 yrs! He could use an undersized batt coz the additive actually increases the batt's capacity.

My experience with this product is ok, now planning to pour in a 2nd bottle now that the batt's 2 yrs old and starting to spill acid and drink up the distilled water due to sulphation. 1st bottle was poured into the batt when it was abt 6 mths old.

This dealer also claimed that with this batt additive, his friend doped the bus batteries and offered 12 month warranty on it to IntraKota buses in KL... normally no one dares to offer more than 6 mths for commercial use, and they normally last less than a yr for such uses. He also claimed that the doped batts his friend offered lasted up to 24 mths, and that's why he dared offer the warranty.

Joengkh,

yeah, I've heard of that product too, from www.megapulse.net. There's also other similar Korean products like Battery Sitter, Battery Nurse (I think both are the same product, but not sure abt this). AUS$99... told by that Alpha Pholon dealer that these things do work, but some models sell at a high price, like a couple of hundred US dollars... [thumbsdown]

Clement,

care to share yr way of taking care of your batt? Can't seem to do much instead of topping up the batt water b4 it gets too low...

Oh yeah, heard a tip from a colleague, told to him by a taxi driver: only top up yr batt water when the batt's cold, like in the morning, and not when it's hot, like after you've just driven your car.

denpends on what electronics u have in the car. my dad's drove his opel for 5 yrs without changing battery. cos he seldom drive at nite. for me, with ICE and some extra lightings, batt last me abt a yr. but if for normal without any extra sucking power devices, should last 2 yrs on average
