Hi, I'm a Latio owner for about 3 months plus. Just wondering, when do you guys (experience drivers) use the ODO or the SPORTS gear if you are driving the LATIO. From what i gathered, some people said that only when overtaking and some people said that if its used often will damage the gearbox. So whats the purpose of having it. BTW latio is using a CVT gearbox.

I test drove the Latio sports Edition. The sports gear is a marketing gimmick. It's basically Overdrive Off in other makes.

The gear will be 'set' at 3rd gear. There is no significant advantage using sports mode for overtaking ie, don't expect sports mode to shave 1-2 sec off the car 0-100kmh. What it does is it sustain the gear at 3rd gear. Just like if you have 1 or 2 in the autogear. They are stuck in the respective gear for different purposes.

I don't think one has to engage OD off or sports mode for daily driving.

Torque magazine did comment on the lack of 'sportiness'

Just step on the accelerator when overtaking. It's the way auto cars (CVT or otherwise) have been designed to do. Anything else is a gimmick.

I believe that the original purpose of the OD button is for ang mohs when they are having a trailer. Sometimes with additional loads and on incline (for eg.), the gearbox may hunt for the right gear and switch frequently between the 3rd and 4th. To prevent that from happening, the OD button can be released so that the max gear is locked at 3rd to prevent gear hunting.

I'm driving a CVT car as well.
