Hello!

Happy New Year everyone! [sunny]

Just wanted to check if any Fabia owners have done 30K servicing lately? May i ask where done at? Is it necessary to go back to Agent to do it since there are a few important parts to be changed at this servicing interval. i am concerned with the sky rocket price charged by CA and their long waiting time, though professional and known technical knowhow are equally important considerations for me. [dizzy]

i only know of 2 options currently ie. to go back to Agent or to seek out Servotronics.

Appreciate any advice on which servicing agent to go for.

Thanks much.

Cheers,

SpottyRed

Heya Spotty, I did my 30k at Servo. Wouldn't say I'm too happy with the service. Labour + oil filter is $30 + $8. I think lidat most workshop oso can do cos they only did simple oil change only.

Brought my own oil there, and still got some balance which they did not bother to return me. I also neber bother to check dat time, cos running short of time. [furious]

Asked them to help check my driver side window oso neber check. (Wah biang eh..now motor jam and I have to open the door for carparking... sheesh... locally installed power windows also like the original one... damned) [shakehead]

Anyway, anybody downloaded the complete catalogue/pricelist from JMBUTT's site? Looks like some of the wear and tear items would be much cheaper if we could indent bulk purchase from him.

Servo is always too busy to do anything well IMHO. I go there if I have major fault because besides CA, there aint anyone else to turn to.

For minor svcing, I go to the my mech at the floor above Servo...labour charge for oil change is $15 versus Servo's exorbitant charge of $30.

Din make myself clear... mine is the windows regulator like all the problematic windows you guys are having...

Octavia classic has its power windows locally installed. Basically they are just the motor cum wiring. Power is transmitted from the motor to a shaft from the regulator through gears.

The one that is broken is actually the shaft and not the motor. According to William of Leader Auto (who install power windows for JTA), this is part of the window regulator assembly which only Czech Auto has the spare.

The shaft looks like it was twisted due to overstraining. Funny thing is my power windows (when it was still working) always go up very slowly compared to all other makes. This means that the motor should not have enough torque to cause the shaft to break in such a manner. I would reckon a powerful motor which can raise the windows up in 2-3 secs would cause the shaft to break like that and not one that takes forever.

After some soul searching, I suppose this unfortunate incident could only be due to the following reasons:

1. Lousy VW part [rifle]

2. I've overstrain the shaft by pressing the windows button for approx. 1 sec longer than neccessary when it has fully rised up. (NOTE: Power windows supplied by JTA do not go up automatically, but you have to keep your fingers pressed on the button until the windows fully rised up)

3. Should not have use power windows other than carparking. No more cool breeze for me when I eventually get the damn thing fixed.

Anyway, I've email to Skoda in Czech and see what is their response. Maybe I'll try asking a quote from JMBUTT as well.

Damned... [:p]

I think we stray from the discussion quite a bit... any thing abt JM Butt pls post in that thread...

Yes, a Group Buy from JM Butt is definitely interesting. I ordered once before and everything was smooth.

HI spotty, 30k servicing I don't think there's any wallet-damaging thing to change other than the engine oil and filters. Suggest go back to CA. The next servicing at 45k could be the killer instead.

Hi Sonnytay,

I thot there was more to 30K servicing than just oil filter and air filter change. Remembered reading more items in JTA's inspection checklist. [:)]

Thanks very much for your response.

Hi Spottyred,

I am scheduled to get my servicing done this Wednesday (8/1/03) at Autodynamacs (recommended by Skodaman). I got my Mobil 1 from Fabiaman, and the rest of the parts from Xinzhong at Lavender street. Although I had bought oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, and coolant, I think I will be changing only the air filter and oil filter this time (20K). Spark plugs and coolant are probably good for 40K, so I will keep those till then.

If you are interested, you can come along this Wednesday, say about 9.00am, otherwise, I can give you my opinion after I have had my servicing done. I am sure it will be good since it is recommended by Skodaman.

Anyway, if you are planning to do likewise, i.e. buy your own parts, then please take a photocopy of your service manual's page containing the engine information. This is extremely useful for the parts shop in getting you the correct items. Credit for this information/tip goes to HondaSkoda. [:)]

Regards,

Octaviafan

As promised, here is an update of my 20K servicing experience at Autodynamacs. I had a bit of difficulty [:/] finding blk 3019A Ubi Road 1 because 1) it was raining heavily this morning so visibility was pretty limited and 2) the blk number is not clearly indicated nor visible from the main road.

Thanks to Skodaman, who met me and led me there, we arrived at about 10 am. [:)] There were already 4 or 5 customers there, not Skodas if you are wondering. Anyway, Raymond's mechanic got to work almost immediately and the servicing was done in about half an hour. Lube oil, oil filter and air filter changed. Service interval display was reset by Raymond, but not properly done. [:p] When I got to my office, I switched off my engine and then turned the key to start position again and the service warning appeared. I had to manually reset it myself following the owner's manual procedure. [;)] Not difficult, so no major complain here.

Overall assessment, Raymond is friendly and his mechanics are reasonably proficient. Labour charge was a very affordable S$15/-. [thumbsup]

Overall cost outlay is as follows;

1. Mobil 1 (from Fabiaman): S$55/-

2. Air filter (from Xinzhong): S$16/-

3. Oil filter (from Xinzhong): S8/-

4. Labour charge (Autodynamacs): S$15/-

Total: A very affordable S$94/-. [thumbsup] (Cheaper than what some Shell stations are promoting for their ProServ packages using synthetic oil.) [:)]

Mmmm...I must be missing something. Had to do 30k servicing last year and went to CA. The price they quoted me was S$300+ Thought it was normal and bo biang...Cost of owning car. But luckily call Fabiaman to check & was told excessive. Quickly return and got back my car and send to Servotronic...Cost me roughly S$60+exclude oil. Like I say I think I must surf the net more often else genna con left & right...

BTW, my skoda always have the power steering light warning flash up after some distance. Servo can't seem to solve it and even though they say it's been resetted I still get the warning after a hard turn. Power steering do feel funny at time (heavy) and also some minor jerk. Anyone have this experince?

I am not sure what the warning light is suppose to tell you....low level for your power steering fluid or low power steer pump pressure. Anyway, check your power steer fluid reservoir first, may be insufficient. Seem like it only happens when you turn hard right? While checking the reservoir, see if you can find a sensor there. I drive an Octivia and haven't paid much attention to this area yet, so cannot comment any further. Maybe during the weekend, I will take a closer look at my engine. [:)]
