Toalson 1st Gear July 12, 2005 Share July 12, 2005 Just wanna check with the pros..... I'm surprised to see that my layers of AG sealant were all washed out by the rain over the past 3 days. To start, I actually coated 2 layers of the sealant 2 weekends ago; with 1 layer being applied on each day. Then last week I did the same. But tis time without the claybar. In fact when I rinse n wash the car, the water just beads off nicely. Thus I know that my previous coats were still intact. However this weekend after applying the 2nd coat on sunday, I was caught in the rain at night but then the beading was still good. Then as u all experience since monday it was raining almost the whole day, I found that there was no more beading n it sort of just form a sheet. I was confused n put some water on the roof to test n true enuff the water did not bead anymore but just sheet away. I saw many of my collegues' rides n only 1 display the same as mine. N if not wrong none actually do much grooming to their rides... Any explanations?? ↡ Advertisement
Marcostan 4th Gear July 12, 2005 Share July 12, 2005 Toalson, When u apply AG Sealant, how long u let it set before buffing off ?? This will affect the durability of the Sealant. FYI, my Klasse Sealant is going strong. Regards, MarcosTan Toyota Rav4
Southpark2000 Neutral Newbie July 12, 2005 Share July 12, 2005 Toalson, Me din have the problem u faced. Can enlighten us on your entire process? - Did you prep the surface? - Did your surface contain any wax/sealant? Did you take any steps to remove them? - Which pdt did you use? Autoglym SRP or EGP or both? - You mentioned claybaring. I assume you did that only it once before applying the 1st coat? and not claybar, sealant; next day: claybar, sealant? Gen2 Neutral Newbie July 13, 2005 Share July 13, 2005 Hi Toalson, did you park your car under trees on Monday when it rained the whole day ?
Toalson 1st Gear July 13, 2005 Author Share July 13, 2005 I left the AG sealant to set for at least 1hr before I started to buff off. Tis is wat I usually do. I it always work well.
Toalson 1st Gear July 13, 2005 Author Share July 13, 2005 (edited) For the 1st coat, I claybar then apply the sealant. But didnt do so the subsequent coats (2nd, 3rd & 4th) And 3rd & 4th coats were done only the last weekend. I only use the AG EGP n didnt use the AG SRP. Lokturne Neutral Newbie July 13, 2005 Share July 13, 2005 Tree sap and other contaminants can be rinsed off onto your car. You won't notice it, but it will kill your LSP. AG is a good product, and I doubt regular rainwater can harm it that quickly, so that is most likely the case.
Silgt Neutral Newbie July 13, 2005 Share July 13, 2005 I'm surprised to see that my layers of AG sealant were all washed out by the rain over the past 3 days...I found that there was no more beading n it sort of just form a sheet. I'll just chime in...have not used AG personally but this observation was from a very knowledgable friend who is a long time AG user. Your AG SRP & EGP might still be there on your car surface although the beading actions might be gone. My friend had the same issue as you, found that the surface do not bead water anymore. So he did a warm water wash and found that the suds residue are creamy (proof that the products are still there on the surface to protect although the beading action is no longer there). The same observation was found with NXT Tech Wax. Both of these are claimed to be very durable sealant from many who have used them. However to many of us, water beading should be use as an indication but not conclusive proof of protection. Personally I love it when my car surface beads water after every down pour. Gen2 Neutral Newbie July 13, 2005 Share July 13, 2005 (edited) Yup, it makes a big difference and you will get more information from the following thread. Btw I think there is no problem with your application method. http://autopia.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56127 Edited July 13, 2005 by Gen2

Lokturne Neutral Newbie July 13, 2005 Share July 13, 2005 Another thing, it might just be dirty. Give it a good wash and see if the beading returns. Personally, I'm not happy if the surface isn't beading, whether or not protection is still there.

Toalson 1st Gear July 13, 2005 Author Share July 13, 2005 With the weather liddat for these few days very difficult to wash. But will try nevertheless. Same here, i'm not happy if the beading stops.
Toalson 1st Gear July 13, 2005 Author Share July 13, 2005 It was conclusive from the autopia thread that one should not park under trees when it rains. Now I hope the AG HGP will not be totally removed as happened to someone who uses NXT. Liddat tis sat must DIY long long again.
Gen2 Neutral Newbie July 13, 2005 Share July 13, 2005 I suggest you wash your car with a slightly stronger dose of car shampoo first, wipe dry, spray water to the bonnet and see whether it beads water. It could be the residue from the trees still on your car which stops the beading effect. If it still doesn't bead, then too bad, you have to clay -> wash -> dry -> SRP -> EGP.
