Cargo Transporter carrying Mitsubishi's sinks after collision
PetrolHead posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
A 148-metre cargo ship - Baltic Ace collided with a container ship, the Corvus J under unclear circumstances. While nautical accidents are not new, this particular ship in accident was carrying more than 1,400 new cars, mostly manufactured by Mitsubishi from Japan and Thailand according to information revealed to Reuters by Panagiootis Kakoliris, operations manager at Stamco Ship Management Co. Ltd. The accident took place off the coast of Belgium and the Netherlands where the Baltic Ace had sailed from Zeebrugge in Belgium and was transporting cars to Kotka in Finland. The 134-metre, Cyprus-registered, Corvus J is said to be damaged but not in danger of sinking. The shipping lane where the accident happened is one of the busiest in the North Sea, about 100km from Europe's busiest port at Rotterdam. As Japanese automakers are already struggling after back-to-back economical downfalls, it is sad that Mitsubishi has to undergo tough(er) times. Hopefully no Evo X were in the transporter vessel at time of accident. -
