If you have been to Autobaccs, you will have seen them selling Conoco Syncon 5W40 engine oil. It is quite ex by my standards and Conoco lubes are the cheapest around actually. There are no ads for Conoco lubes and here is a background to why: Conoco and Phillips merged in late 02. They sell the Motorcraft brand of engine oil to Ford and have made an aggreement with Ford not to sell or advertize their stuff on TV. They can only be bought from wholesale warehouses or petrol stations. If you have been to BITOG and read all the UOAs, Motorcraft oils are very very good thanks to ConocoPhillips excellent hydrocracking technology. Please note that the oil is Group III, confirmed! It is as good as the PAO oil in the market namely Amsoil, RP and even M1. FYI, the oil can be bought in Projet stations in MY. The range that corresponds to the Motorcraft range in the US. Namely Hydroclear Super All Season 10W30 and 5W30. Retails for MYR70-79. If you are lucky, you can find the 5W20 which all the guys in BITOG rave about. The additive package is very good but the oil is more susceptible to oxidation than the Group IV and V synthetics. FYI, Projet is the fuel division of ConocoPhillips. In other countries like the UK and Turkey, the company is known simply as Jet. This explains why you can find Conoco oil in Projet stations in Malaysia. What about Syncon? Syncon is a full Group IV PAO, confirmed! So it is good oil but should not be more expensive than Amsoil or M1 and definitely more expensive than Hydroclear Super All Season.
