  2. The Stuttgart’s new B-segment crossover is based on Audi’s MLB B-sized architecture and the Q5/SQ5 specifically, I thought some of you may be interested to have a look at how much it shares with, or how much it is different from its Ingolstadt cousins is of great interest. For me the new Macan looks amazing, side and rear profile are stunning! Too bad even the 'cheaper' Porsche will be cost much more than the Q5/SQ5. http://fourtitude.com/news/Industry_News_3/intel-porsche-macan-component-similarities-differences/
  3. It is common knowledge that visits to private hospitals will cost more than those made at public hospitals, unless you register as private patients at the latter then maybe the rates will be on par. So do make an informed decision before heading down to the respective hospital according to what you can afford. 一分钱一分货。 From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_814982.html PRIVATE V PUBLIC HOSPITALS Bill comparisons may not reflect true cost differences Published on Jun 26, 2012 I CONCEDE that costs in private hospitals are higher than those in public hospitals for private patients ('Private versus public hospitals: More than twice as costly'; last Friday). However, there were a few omissions in the report:
  4. Planning to buy my 1st car b4 the next round of COE. Test driven a few of the popular makes on Sunday. The new altis IE The car that everyone loves to hate --------------------------------------------------- Looks: Dunno if its a personal thing, but some pple say its worse than the previous altis in terms of looks, u gotta be kidding me. It definitely looks better in the bland way that Corollas have always looked. Of course no where close to Lancer EX or Civic but still an improvement Interior: the DVD touchscreen player looks nice and high tech, the center console looks pretty good now cos of that. Nothing fanciful. The plastics are still cheap but generally fitted better than the initial showroom model that they had in Feb. Buttons fairly functional, wish the mirror adjustment button could be on the driver's door. Good boot space. The legroom decent and average. The tachometer looks fairly nice and modern. Some of the cubbyholes n storage spaces not to my personal preference. Power and acceleration: ? a tad more sluggish than the older altis according to the SE (Despite the increased weight and slightly decreased torque). I've only driven the old altis once, my friend who's family car is an altis says abt the same. I used to feel that the prev generation Altis is the perkiest of all the 1.6L cars i've sat in, so even the current model is still better than the other models i've tested. Handling: Not used to the EPS which makes handling in carparks very weird. Basically you can turn the steering wheel very lightly at first without much turning motion then the last part of your steering wheel arc the car turns more than expected. I found it pretty weird but i think it will be a hit with the ladies. Makes the car very easy to turn in a carpark. Con is that there is absolutely no steering feel when u are doing that. Supposed to be less when travelling at high speed but i can't really test that unless i'm driving it around a curvy road at a higher speed. Value wise and overall: Despite it being a tomyam car, the overall package makes it i guess still a default choice in the 1.6L market. 5 yr warranty on major components and the OMV of 17k plus points for non car-enthusiast owners. I think my major gripe would be that i prefer no EPS handling. Its a very gradual evolution of the previous altis. Lancer 1.5 EX ------------- Looks: Very good from the front, ugly from the back. Elegance model (basic) comes without the rear spoiler lip, sideskirts, improved bumper and different type of rims compared to the higher model (cant rem if its sports edition?). 1k more for the aesthetics. Only sedan car out of the 3 to have standard 16" rims though. Interior: Nice interior. Best of the 4 cars i tried yesterday. Even the fake carbonfibre-like trim fits in. Everything is dark colored and the tachometer and displays look more high tech compared to the rest. Legroom average, comparable to Altis maybe more by 5%. Feels really well made inside. Power and acceleration: I didn't really evaluate this cos once i heard the whine. I gave up any notions of buying the car. This uncle i met previously in the Toyota showroom compared it to an accelerating powerboat engine. I couldn't agree more. Doesn't matter if u are lightly pressing the accelerator from 1500 - 2500 rpm or 2500 - 3000 rpm. The whine is BAD end-of-story. My friend who sat at the back said its much worse from the rear seats than the front when he test drove it. This is brand new, don't think i can live with the sound when it is an older car and the tyre noise and general noise increases from the hardening rubber seals of the cabin. Side note that the wing mirrors are bit smaller than i'm used to. it is similar to the ones on the Sx4. Handling: Heavy but fairly precise. I haven't driven a continental car. But i think its probably more similar to what conti cars drive like. Value wise: The more exp edition is just below 64k. Really nice car if you happen to be deaf Didn't test drive the 2.0L version but the SE claims that it sounds the same! If the 2L version is less noisy, think its a good buy! Civic 1.6L --------- Looks: Great. I've always loved the look since it first came out! No side-indicator lights for the 1.6L decreases the chioh factor compared to the 1.8L. HID not important to me really. Interior: The civic 1.8L has a very nice integrated center console along with the digital displays. UNFORTUNATELY the 1.6L ruins it cos it is stripped down. The integrated radio is removed with an alpine HU replacing it. Auxillary input is hidden inside the glove compartment. Major minus point is that the integrated audio steering wheel controls are lost! However the appearance just looks cheap considering u still pay 74k for this car. Interior space at the back is huge! I feel at home here in the back and i'm comparing this to my usual family car (the previous generation accord) ! Completely flat rear floor really nice. Power and acceleration: Less torquey than the altis but the 5 gear gearbox completely makes up for it. Very nice and smooth acceleration. Again it feels like i'm driving my accord who also has a 5 speed gearbox (of course there is a difference in torque and acceleration but generally still feels similar at lower revs due to the gearbox). the i-vtec has a smoother power band. 0-80km/h feels great Handling: Usual honda style. Drives like my accord actually. I'm very used to it so i find it completely natural Value wise and overall: The best car bar none in the 1.6L jap category. If i was planning to buy a Cat B car the 1.8L version (79.5k list price for this COE), i would buy it with no hesitation. But that is out of my budget. Unfortunately the way KM is pricing the 1.6L version makes me think twice. Its 74k list price. To get 1k off, the minimum loan is i think 40k with a min loan period of 7 yrs. The margins they are earning from the car is already very high (18k OMV?) and yet they still want to earn money from the loan period. The 1.6L is really short changed in terms of how the stripping of the center audio console really affects how the interior looks and the lack of the integrated audio steering wheel controls Its a great car but u pay much more for a stripped down version SX4 Hatchback -------------- Went down to West coast just for this model. Btw the suzuki showroom is really quite different from the others. Haha the whole feel of the place is quite industrial and budget. Decided to use this car as the basic comparison as it is the cheapest of the lot. Looks: The hatchback looks nice. Sporty with standard 16" rims. Unfortunately i am looking for a sedan but this was the only mini-suv appearing car that interested me. The sedan ... ... lets forget about it. Interior: Very utilitarian and basic. Looks like something from the previous 1-2 generation of vehicles. Functional but very boring. as per SUVs, the car is more tall than anything else, leg room is less than the comparable sedans above. Power and acceleration: decent. in normal driving style, engine is quite quiet at the higher gears. Pulling power i feel is around the same as the Lancer EX. Handling: very unused to the high seating position of this vehicle compared to the rest. I feel like i'm driving a small lorry which i have driven b4! I couldn't really comment much about the handling as i was spending all my time getting used to the unusual driving position. Value wise and overall: Cheapest at 59.5k at this COE bidding. However it is mainly due to the low OMV of 13k+ for the hatchback. I'm not into the whole SUV thing but this is definitely a good car for the sub 60k category. Unfortunately its feels a bit utilitarian and i would say that the interior feels like its like being in an American car or an older generation Japanese car from the late 90s. As of now the top contender for my hard earned money is still probably the altis despite the boos from the anti-altis contingent. Generally i feel that most comments made in MCF are fairly exaggerated (haha sole exception is the Lancer EX engine whine) due to the medium of the internet. I would really like to go for the Civic but my brain tells me that the 1.6L version is really not worth it. Feel free to make any constructive comments u like! Wah long post, spent an 1 hr typing this while on MC ...
