He said that the proof of concept for motorcycles and buses was successful and would be tested for car lanes next. "Once the procurement method is decided, we can expedite it. "Our target is to extend the use of QR Codes for cars this year," he said at the press conference after a special committee meeting to address congestion on the Causeway at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here on Monday (March 3). He said that it only takes three seconds for motorcycles or buses using QR codes for Immigration clearance. Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who was also present, said the task force prioritised motorcycles and buses, as they make up 80% of the 500,000 travellers between Malaysia and Singapore. "Alleviating congestion means finding solutions for these two modes of transport," he said. He said using QR codes, 150 motorcycles can pass through in 15 minutes, compared to only 90 before. He said the next step is to proceed with procurement of the QR code system. Saifuddin Nasution added that the task force is also looking into congestion issues at other entry points such as Rantau Panjang, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Padang Besar, or air entry points like KLIA, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. He added that the task force also took into account the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link), which will be completed by Dec 31, 2026. "The RTS will carry between 10,000 to 20,000 passengers per hour," he said. Also present at the press conference were Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
