Just received credit card statement from citibank. Note that with effect from 1 mar onwards, the 3% additional rebate will be changed to 3% upfront discount. However, the additonal discount will not be given if one is using vouchers.

Sigh... I thought all along i'm enjoying 5% + $3 vouvher + 3% rebate + 5% dividend rebate....

Hi,

Which have better discount for pumping at Esso/mobil, pay by Citbank Dividend card or DBS Esso card?

I'm rather confused by the discount given.

i think the best discount is : 1) use voucher + DBS Esso Platimum (10% off)+ Bring smiles card for points ( the esso platimum functions as a smiles card but cannot add points when using voucher)

second best is 2) use voucher + Citibank dividend (5% rebate) + Smiles card (5% off)

if wrong pls correct me

A few cents saved here and there will not make anyone a millionaire... why give yourself a headache thinking where to get a better discount.... ???

you got weird logic.

no one wants to be a millionaire by saving those few cents. its about maximising our $.

That few cents won't maximise anything.....

Let me give you another example.....

Foreign exchange... some people would go until Woodlands to change a few hundred SingDollars to MYR because the money changer there give 1 cent more in the rate as compared with his neighbourhood money changer in Changi Point. The time taken, petrol spent, parking charges etc were not taken into account, because he gained 2 ringgit more in the exchange.....

Another example will be those credit card points where you can convert to Krisflyer miles and redeem for a airticket. Sounds nice, but, a big but... cheapest redemption will be to KL, but who want to redeem free tix to there, so Bangkok may be a better example, that redemption is 25,000 miles. To convert 1 mile, spending will average to be $2 dollars, hey!!!, so you need to spend $50,000 to be able to accumulate enough to convert.... I always tell those credit cards promoters, get off my case, I don't need it.

Well, likewise for sourcing and comparing petrol discount..... I would rather go to the petrol station that is along my route for convience rather then to make a detour to one with a 1cent more discount.... time is more important to me then the few cents that will be saved. Like someone earlier said, penny wise, pounds foolish.

Just because you don't hanker for these few cents, don't mean you should be dissing people off. Everyone wants a good deal, period. The only question is how do you qualify as a good deal.

On Forex. 1% can be significant if you're changing larger amounts. You also forgot to raise the fact that since we're driving, it could be simply because people are changing in Woodlands because they are using Woodlands as the 1st link. As for Petrol, its on the way, so negligible. As for parking, many of us simply park by the money changers, and get out by 10 minutes, with is free.

As for Petrol discount, it might not be significant to you, but it is pretty significant to me. I use my Citi Dividend only for Petrol and I got a $90 cheque almost every 3 months. And that's for the 5%. For the 3% rebates, it means a $60+ savings over that period of time. Small amount to you perhaps, but close to 1 full tank to some of the smaller cars these days.

Also, you're also not considering the fact that most of us probably pass by a significant number of Petrol Stations daily / weekly, and its not exactly a hassle to stick to 1 particular station that provide us with the best value.

On Credit Cards + Miles. You've factored in 25K as nett, before the 25% current 15% ongoing discounts for SQ KrisFlyer online redemption. And BTW, you don't need to spend $50K to get 1 ticket to Bangkok. I did it with 20K spending via Citi Premiermiles. I would suggest that you go read up and refresh yourself on the offerings available currently before coming here and spout nonsense again.

wrong. it doesn't cost anything to discuss which credit card to use to maximise savings for petrol.

cannot compare it to exchange foreign currency.

i also thought i am getting 3% discount even with the $3 voucher.

Well I have both cards, so it is just a matter of choosing which card to use. And maximising the $... [rolleyes]
