Yes, exhaust fans trying to remove the exhaust will in turn have to work harder. no to mentioned efficiency loses at the ventilation turbines due to friction.

 

always remember, energy cannot be created or destroyed. The best way to tap natural energy the underwater sea waves, winds and solar power.

Remember seeing a documentary about a building that actually uses the exhaust from the air-con and channel the heat for heating purposes in other areas of the building

yes, for heating, energy is put into good use. but maintenance will be expensive.

 

exhaust that travels thru the pipings etc.. need to make sure all seals are working and no leaks.

Heating in buildings? Other than water, I don't know what else needs to be heated. It would be great if those solar water heater on top of those landed property can be improvised into a multi-level building, condo or HDB.

that's akin to recycling energy that otherwise would have been lost/wasted.

 

couple of issues on hand:

is the restriction at the end going to reduce the ventilation capacities? if so, by how much?

how effective would the concept be?

at what cost? there's always a cost to price ratio.

Take a look at Sg commercial buildings, with all the external blinking lights and the amt of halogen lights used indoors.

Are we really serious about energy conservation?

From a total cost of ownership perspective, we can save alot more just be doing less. Don't need all these additional gadgets.

back pressure will force the vent to work harder. worst case is the shopping centres will be warmer just to go green :D

 

the energy produced by the turbine (1kW - 5kW... haha) is small. you save the same amount of money by turning down the thermostat a notch, without additional investment.

 

i was doing quite a lot of work recently on renewable energy for a govt project. what i found out was quite disappointing. we are still years and years away from properly harnessing wind, solar, waves etc. costs are not coming down anytime soon (despite all the advance in solar, its mostly hype), and lots of trial but more errors than anything.

 

however it does gave me an idea for a completely new source which i hope to be the first one to do [;)]

It will never work. It is not sustainable as the ROI is too horrible. Forget about large scale govt support, it will not support anything that cannot make $$$.

from a purely engineering point of view, it is workable if it make use of the natural tendency that of hot air rises and use it to turn little turbines..

 

but to extract any useful amount of energy, you might needs hundreds and thousands of little turbines..so even if this idea passes engineering phase, the finance side will put a stop to it..

Hot air, I haven't thought of that factor. [thumbsup] Hot air can be quite strong.

 

Now countries are under-pressure to lower their carbon footprint, so maybe funds would be easier to get than last time.

 

Indeed, lowering energy consumption would beat energy generation anytime.
