Its 10.23pm and the ERP gantry along the CTE is still 'In Operation', so what do you do; Pull along side on the road shoulder which is already packed with temporary red and white barriers for roadworks or pay 50 cents and continue your smooth journey home? From what I observed, there are still a few imbeciles who will pull along the shoulder and wait for 7 minutes before the ERP goes off.

Considering that these people pull over, leave their engines switched on and wait for 7 minutes before the ERP is put to sleep, just to save 50 cents. Don't you think that by leaving your engine running and waiting, its still burning fuel, you're not moving anywhere and in other words, you're still paying 50 cents or even more by waiting! Not only that, you're posing a safety hazard to other road users when you abruptly signal across 2 lanes to stop at the shoulder and with roadworks going on you are probably obstructing traffic as well. I'm not saying that I don't value 50 cents because I know its still money but I seriously doubt the cost of waiting there exceeds the benefits of just driving through. Sure we're paying the government but at the same time, getting home faster and safer.

So the next time you see the time on the ERP gantry is timing out, just go through. I just got burned 2 bucks today at Victoria Street when it was 7.54pm and at 7.55pm it could have been 1 dollar. I guess they should just remove the clock altogether to save the pain...

Not much better than those who suddenly slow down to insert their cashcard <_<

I'd actually rather 'waste' the money on the fuel, because it's something I can use, rather than give it to the Government where it never comes back.

But the best solution is to ALWAYS plan your journey. If you really oppose paying ERP, travel on roads that don't have them (admittedly quite hard nowadays though), or travel during the times when they are not in operation.

I never enter town before 8pm, for example, unless I absolutely have to.

Oh, but I must add, I NEVER stop by the roadside to wait, because that's just stupid and dangerous. I would rather use the fuel to drive around.

Later, camera captures and you receive summons for waiting outside the ERP gantry.....

Well if a driver makes a sudden slow-down and causes an accident from behind, yes by Singapore law its the rear vehicles fault, but morally the driver is wrong, being ignorant of other road users

For me, i always plan my drive and i would have left my previous place such dat i will arrive about 5min to 10min AFTER the ERP over. If for watever reason i still too early then bo pien pay lor. I find it too shameful to do something so KS (and not to mention illegal) just to save dat 50cents or $1.

Don't be an ugly Singaporean! If u can afford a car but choose not to pay ERP then don't get a car in the first place!

  • Manchester United's "promising" transfer window should be taken with a pinch of salt

Having followed this club for more than 20 years, I'm well aware that a promising transfer window does not directly equate to an improved season. Forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as Diego Leon, the young Paraguayan wing-back, have been Manchester United's signings for the 2025 summer transfer window so far. On paper, this team should have no problem challenging for silverware. On the pitch, the current crop of players finished 15th last season. While both Cunha and Mbeumo ha

Doing the thing, minus the thing

You might have seen this viral clip on social media:  m2-res_480p.mp4 This might be one of the greatest, funniest things I've seen in quite a long while.  Put simply, its horse-racing, minus the horses.  And look, of course it's all a bit of fun (clearly a stunt to gain social media attention, but it also raised money for charity). I think it might be best described as 'doing the thing, minus the thing'. And we've seen plenty of gimmicky conceits (I for one am quite a sucker

The enduring charm of Singapore wet markets

I know I’m idealising it all - as a not-so-young millennial that can’t remember the last time he cooked a full meal for himself. (That was probably a good two years ago.) But moving on slightly from morning walks now, the space I’ve found myself frequenting when I feel like I need a break from the routines of everyday life (or to simply clear my head) isn’t the park. It’s the basement level of Punggol Plaza. That a wet market even exists here should be surprising. Punggol, after all, is qui
