The presidential election (PE) is heating up, with 4 Mr Tans as presidential hopefuls. When I think of the President, the image of him walking out of the official state car during National Day comes to my mind. The official state car is a car used by a government to transport its head of state in an official capacity. It also serves as an automotive symbol of the head of state and their country. Accordingly to Wikipedia, part of the criteria for an official state car is to have adequate security, capability and stateliness for its duty. A limousine, executive car or sport utility vehicle is usually selected.

 

The President of Singapore alternates between a 2010 Mercedes Benz S350L and a 2001 Lexus LS430, both of which are white like all of Singapore's previous state cars. In a hypothetical situation whereby the government decides to replace the aging LS430, what are the potential choices? I

nothing says towkay or dignitary like a S-class... recently saw a S600 in Singapore! bimmer feel more reserved for corporate CEO... just MHO

I seriously think they are going to use the S350L for the new Presidential Mobile.. BMW is too sporty looking, the LS is too Ah Pek, Jags never made it to the list due to reliability problems(past XJs were rubbish) and it's British, I don't think they want a colonial car =P..

And knowing the SG govt, they won't go for the unconventional and less than German Luxury or Lexus range.. BTW, I think the Infinity M37 might be priced just below the LS, above the GS, thus it's not really a "practical choice", to add to that, reports of the high FC is also another issue(reportedly higher that the S350)..

Think they will wait for the replacement S-Class as they already have 1 current generation. After all, they must lead by example that we embrace the latest technology. And face it, nothing beats a 3-pointed star on the bonnet when it comes to status, class and flamboyance. The RR is too extravagant, the Jag is nice but has the wrong family background (Colonial roots now taken over by ex British colony aka India's TATA motors).
