Nissan has released the initial details on the all-new 2013 Nissan Note mini MPV, ahead of its Japanese launch in September. The new model features a more dramatic design and the Japanese automaker is calling the car's deep character line a "Squash Line". The car would form the base for a replacement to the North American market Versa (Latio) hatchback.

It may be a small car and but it is the first Nissan to be fitted with the Around View Monitor System, which was once only available in the high-end Infiniti models. However, one may wonder if the system is really necessary on this Jazz-sized subcompact. It would make more sense on a Teana.

For its domestic market of Japan, the Note comes with two engine options. The first is the 1.2-litre HR12DE which generates 79bhp and 108Nm of torque. More interestingly is a supercharged, direct-injected three-cylinder HR12DDR (DIG-S) motor.

The engine, which features Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), makes 92bhp and 143Nm of torque while seeping petrol at a claimed rate of 25.2 km/L. These engines will be connected to a next-generation continuously variable transmission which promises to deliver class-leading fuel efficiency.

The new Japanese-market Note will be manufactured at Nissan Motor Kyushu while the European Note will be made at Nissan's Sunderland plant in the U.K.

  • Space: Large and Empty

Over the weekend I fell into a bit of a science-fiction/science rabbithole. You know, one of those when you click on ONE Youtube video and suddenly the whole Sunday afternoon is gone and your algorithm is all messed up.  Anyway, obviously there's tons of fascinating stuff about space and science and all that. Too much, really.  But one fun fact has stuck in my brain: All the other planets in the Solar System could fit between Earth and our Moon.  It seems crazy to think, consideri

This should be the true Singaporean national dish

Singapore is known to be a melting pot of different cultures, races, people and of course, cuisines from all over the world. You can probably find food from most places here in Singapore, but we also have some dishes that we like to think of as our national dish - okay, google says there isn't an officially declared national dish, but Chicken Rice is one of those that's often mentioned. Yes, we all love Chicken Rice, but it isn't really unique to Singapore.... Nasi Lem

Challenging myself to a week without coffee or sweetened drinks

Sometimes, the key to spicing up your life can take a very simple and mundane form. Or in the case of a challenge I embarked on in early-July, a bland and literally tasteless one. Feeling sometime in mid-June that I had been swept up too mindlessly by the push-and-pull of the everyday, and seeing that I *had* to reclaim some sense of agency with the way I lived, I eventually decided: I would allow myself only water as a drink. I'm pretty sure Yakun and Toast Box lost a fair bit o
