Guyver 1st Gear January 20, 2003 Share January 20, 2003 Yah man... I like Lexus IS 200 as well... even over the new Celica... but no $$ to buy!!
W210k 1st Gear January 20, 2003 Share January 20, 2003 Clement, How much is the new Celica? Have to be from PI, I suppose - since Borneo Motors doesn't carry it. I wonder if the "approved" PI (Richburg or something) gives a competitive price for Toyota parallel imports, which still servicible at Borneo workshops? Is the current Celica with 2.0L or 1.8L engine? 4-pot I suppose? But its a nice car too, albeit 2+2 seater coupe. I find the IS200 looks sporty and attractive too. However there are some who feel that the tail lights treatment gives it a rather "beng-ish" flavor.
Assassin Clutched January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 I think the PI is Ricardo which brings in Toyota/Lexus models.
W210k 1st Gear January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 No, not that one. I know Ricardo in Leng Kee has its own small workshop and spare parts center. However, if you buy from Ricardo, Borneo Motors will not entertain servicing your Toyota. This "Richburg" or whatever its called, is a tie-up between Borneo and a HK-based PI company to sell Toyota models that Borneo is "not allowed" to sell in Singapore. So one can buy "approved" imports of Altezza, Harrier, Windom, Mark II, Verossa, Celicas etc. But what's neat in this joint-venture setup is that buying cars from "Richburg" will privilege you to send your cars to Borneo Motors workshops for servicing. Am not too sure about who provides the warrantying though. Effectively, Borneo wants to corner the majority of the Toyota market in Singapore and sqeeze the PIs. With "Richburg" this combined JV effectively carries most of the Toyota brands in Singapore. But I think they have to be careful that there are no overlaps. Otherwise Borneo customers will all gravitate to buy Toyota/Lexus alternative models from "Richburg".
