Neutral Newbie

avoid if possible, muddy/dirty water will dirty your engine bay.

read from a book is, if u r driving a manual, keep your rev up, and gear 1 to drive thru the flood, if need to, use half clutch, don't release the accelerator, its to keep water from entering via the exhaust. after going thru a flood, tap the brakes to "drain" off excess water. as for auto.. i dunno [:/]

Shift to a lower gear, maybe 2nd gear. Keep the accelerator press at all times, try not to let go or else water may enter the exhaust and will stall engine. Use the clutch to control the speed, half-clutch if necessary.

After going thru the water need to pump the brake a few times to get back the 'bite'.

If unfortunately engine stall in the middle of water, I think that's the end.tongue.gif

hmm.. i dunno if my technique is correct..

when there is a flood, normal saloon cars go damn slow, so i will go slow too, put to 1st gear, and if there is consistent movement between cars, then control the clutch to the pt where its biting and half not biting, resulting the car still moves and engine pushing exhaust gas consistently. sorry i cant really express myself well in this pt. hope u understand.

and if so unlucky when there is a need to go to a complete stop, clutch in and maintain a certain RPM. say 2k and above 3k

In a nutshell, when there is a flood, i will ensure exhaust gas is always coming out of the pipe, preventing water to enter the engine.

and usually after clearing the area of flood, always tap my brake to ensure the brake is working well, as after brakes submerged in water, there is a tendency that it do not grip as well as normal. do take note!!

As for SUVs and trucks, just dash through the water and make drivers in saloon green with envy.. haha.. [wave]

You are absolutely right with the technique.

Will like to suggest that avoid a flood road. In SIngapore, if any, is still quite safe, however, if you are in a foreign country where river or down hill flow of water will wash your car into the river(even if you on a road), with only 6" of water. Many had died from this.

Depends on the water level ... if it's higher than your exhaust... that's it liao..... [sweatdrop]

well i read some where that if the entry speed is too high you will force water into the engine area and wet the electronics , worst case water gets injested into the engine via the resonator [shakehead] best to create a bow wave and just push along as the water after the bow wave is lower than the bow wave itself. i think it can be done , just keep your rpm up while changing gear , takes some pratice though as the normal tendency is to let go the acclerator [nod]

haha...

for autogear, im nt soo sure..

when i was still driving my dad's auto car last time, i put to neutral and rev like the manual and push to D to move. its not advisable i suppose, cos there tend to be noisies from the gear..

but my dad told me to do that if bo bian.. better than let the car die there and 'drown' the engine. d: >

Higher gear at low speed will stall the car. Hence, it is adviced to go in slow at low or 1st gear. However, due to the exhaust gas/pipe, might be below water, constant higher pressure needs to maintain to prevent choking or stalling the car. Therefore the need to keep your accelaerator on and maintain speed through clutch or half clutch.
