Phantom76 Neutral Newbie November 13, 2005 Share November 13, 2005 I have a problem that needs all your help. Yesterday while reversing in HDB car park, i scraped my rear driver side tyre on some drain. it chipped the side wall of the tyre. a chip the size of a 5 cents coin and about 5mm deep now scars the side wall of the tyre. Is this tyre still safe to use? I travel NSH a lot so do not want to risk a flat in the middle of my journey. Do I have to change a pair, i.e. two tyres, or should I just change one? TIA ↡ Advertisement
Silver_blade Turbocharged November 13, 2005 Share November 13, 2005 Bring to reputable tyres shop like SE tyres for them to check. Chip in some part of the side wall is fine (arounf the rim protector) but other area is not. The tyre will not just flatten but will burst in high speed. Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 13, 2005 Share November 13, 2005 You will have to change both. and considering the depth and width... i say it would be more than cosmetic damage. Change them quick.
Phantom76 Neutral Newbie November 13, 2005 Author Share November 13, 2005 Chip is not near the rim protector, its in the middle of the side wall. BTW what is SE? I think I'll get it checked soon. TIA
Silver_blade Turbocharged November 13, 2005 Share November 13, 2005 SE Tyre is at Ubi (near kaki bukit) or you can go to your usual trusted tyre shop.

Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 13, 2005 Share November 13, 2005 No worries, i'm sure most of us here would help in any way we could. Just be careful k. a slow deflation is fine, but the tyre bursting coz of the weak point in the sidewall can have disasterous effects if you lose control of the car!
