Yup, that's was I'm gonna do as I plan to get a car in March. If JTA is not ready then, I will probably settle for something less and await a new Skoda agent. My 1st choice has always been Skoda, but sad that things turn out this way.

 

By the way, what other cars would you recommend? I plan to look at Focus, Civic VTIS ... which other car has manual transmission?

The Civic VTI-S is a great car according to many Honda fans but has a certain "boyracer" image attached to it.

 

The Focus is a dandy good car less the high rear end look. Too bad the Focus RS is delayed

 

U might wanna consider the SEAT Toledo 1.8M as well.

The new Civic VTI-S has a new design which has a more executive look ... Honda is trying to drop/change the boyracer image as well ... at least that is what they claim. I have seen it on the road, its pretty nice ... no boyracer image.

 

Any idea if Focus RS will come to Singapore anytime soon? If not, any idea when? If its worth while, I dun mind waiting.

 

As for SEAT Toledo, is there a !.8M? I read that only Auto is available.

The Civic does look a little more matured but still a "CIVIC" leh

 

The Focus RS is delayed till mid 2002 in UK, not sure about Singapore though. Maybe the parallel imported ones may hit our shores same time as the UK launch.

 

The SEAT Toledo has a 1.8M! But special order only

Since its not safe to buy Skoda, no choice but to settle for Civic I guess. At least its an exciting machine to drive.

 

If I have to wait for Focus RS, that would be at least another 6 months considering the fact that I have been waiting for Skoda since Sept 2001. Any recommended parallel importers for Focus? I think there is a couple at Turf City. Any at Megamart?

 

Special oder for Toledo 1.8M? Does that mean I have to burn a hole in my pocks? Btw, who and where is the agent for SEAT? Sorry for the ignorance, but I am considering SEAT for the 1st time ... arrgh!!! This is getting from bad to worse. I am straying further and further from the car I planned to buy

Not sure about who is the parallel importer for Ford as Regent covers most Ford models and the Singapore market on the whole.

 

One agent to try is Juz 4 Cars (or something sounding like tat) as they are willing to parallel any car for a fee and provided it can pass LTA homogation.

Yes, they share the same generic 1.8L engine but performance is different. Skoda is using the turbocharged engine while Seat is using the normal one. Bora is using the 1.6L engine but cost more than both of the above. Anyway, VW is out for me, not ready to pay so much premium.

"Skoda buyers seek legal action

 

A GROUP of people with bookings pending with troubled JTA Motors has sought legal action to have their Skoda cars delivered or have their deposits refunded. At least one buyer is in danger of losing his trade-in car, which he says is signed over to JTA. The company, which lost its agency to Group Exklusiv last week, is appealing to Skoda for a reprieve. It says listed Stamford Tyres has pledged financial aid. But a Stamford director says it is no longer keen. Over 50 people have orders pending with family-owned JTA."

Hate to sound really cruel here, but a couple of ppl I know and I have serious doubts if JTA's going (or able) to do just that. If they could, this debacle wouldn't have degraded to the level it's on right now. My heart goes out to all the 50-odd ppl, all the same - wished it didn't have to go this way........

I cannot divulge my source but today just confirmed that Stamford is indeed looking at the JTA / Skoda deal. My pal refuse to comment whether they are close to an agreement, just say the negotiations is real but nothing finalised as far as he knows.

 

Which seems logical.

 

Remember Stamford Tyres is a listed company and everything they do has to be announced via the stock exchange. So if bailing out JTA with cash etc is a done deal, they need to announce it without delay because they have hundreds or thousands of shareholders who will demand to know what the heck happened....

Hmmm....interesting thought, especially if you take into consideration what the JTA-Skoda situation's probably like right now. And then throw the Czech Auto entity into the picture.

 

Assuming that the earlier BT snip regarding CA-Skoda tie-up holds at least a bit of truth, it's going to be interesting to see what Stamford is really buying into.....
