Price for IS250 ?

I think in terms of comfort, refinement and luxury it will be better than the Volvo and BMW.

Will lose out in terms of handling and driving feel though since Lexus is not well known for these traits :)

 

Quite keen to see it when it launched first quarter of next year. Looks much better than the current IS (Altezza) both externally and internally. Hopefully the price will be competitive to its rivals.

Volvo S40 2.4 on 105K. If this car is 120K, then Volvo S40 way cheaper. After all, the boot space of the IS is weird because of the suspension of the rear wheels. Not sure what the conditions are for the S40 pricing. Will check it out. Powerwise, I think the Volvo is at 170bhp and the IS is on 205bhp. But really on Singapore roads and speed limits, both car's powers are already at a premium.

Saw the Mark X on the motor show, disappionted because of the centre console at the back.

 

 

It is so tall that i think taht can sit only 4 person only lor. The person sitting in the middile really have to bring his /her legs up man .

Mazda 6, Accord, Legacy R are all superb buys at under S$90K.

 

Lexus is essentially a rebadged Toyota. Way overpriced at S$120K

Actually I have been thinking a lot. Like the

a. Accord (the new JDM one described in another topic) but also read that Honda has

already designed a new Accord that looks very very cool. Only thing is that it shd be

on sale in 2007 / 2008. Not going to buy a car and then drool over the same model

in just 2 years.

b. Mazda 3 / 6. Read that this car is not safe (another topic, this forum). Actually I

was kindda keen on the 6 (new facelift) but then someone said that it was ranked

95th in the safe car list.

c. Focus. Underpowered.

d. Opel Vectra. Fuel guzzler.

No other choice is there. Cannot afford the 523i. If I can, no problem then.

I went to the Lexus showroom @ Leng Kee last Sunday.

 

Checked with the SE that they have not finalised the price. However, their estimated price is less than $130k. Booking fee was $10,500, and estimated delivery is in Mar 05.

No pre-launch discount was mentioned.

 

The price would be confirmed when the show car arrives early next year.

This is taken from AutoCar (UK) mag (Vol 246 No.5 - Nov 2005):

 

It is a comparision test between the IS250 and the E90 325i (a fair comparison IMHO).

 

..... On the other hand, the Lexus really does go where you point it, whereas in the BMW there is a fair bit less grip and bundles more understeer engineered into the chasis if you start to lean the car through a quick corner.

 

In the 325i, especially so in the wet, you need to take account of the fact that the nose will push wide of an apex and wind on more lock accordingly, even at relatively low speeds. In the IS the response from the front tyres is so much more immediate and the onset of understeer so non-existent it feels, if anything, like it wants to oversteer on turn-in, a bit like a 3-series of yesteryear. ...

 

So from this mag's review, I think the IS250 handles better on tight bendies than the E90 325i.

 

There was also a newspaper review in Thailand last Friday (when I was there on business), again comparing the IS250 against the E90 325i and the Thais also concluded the same thing re a better-handling IS.

 

It is a know fact that Lexus designed the IS after the venerable BMW E36's (the best-handling 3-series yet).
