Gymnut Neutral Newbie February 6, 2003 Share February 6, 2003 Hi all, Need some recommendation as to price and place to have a rear wiper installed. My ride is a Sunny 1.5A. Anyone has something similar installed? Is it useful? ↡ Advertisement
Delvin Neutral Newbie February 6, 2003 Share February 6, 2003 hmmm unless urs is a 5-dr, else not much use. Eventhough mine is a 5-dr but I hardly use the rear viper.
Gymnut Neutral Newbie February 6, 2003 Author Share February 6, 2003 My previous car was a March, and had a rear wiper. Found it to be quite useful when it rains. Did yours come as stock, or did you have it installed? How much and where?
Delvin Neutral Newbie February 6, 2003 Share February 6, 2003 5-dr rear viper comes with stock
BoneStock 5th Gear February 6, 2003 Share February 6, 2003 I know B14 Sunny(1.6L only) has a rear wiper even though it's a 4-door saloon. You might want to consider getting the complete set i.e. dc motor, wiper arm, fuses, etc and ask your trusty mech to install them. But seriously speaking, I agree with Delvin, a sedan/saloon don't really need this. I know it's a little hard to adjust from a h/b with a rear wiper. I had this experience too, but you'll get used to it in no time. Think it's not practical trying to install a rear wiper each time you get a 4-door saloon since most saloons out there don't come with rear wiper....IMHO... Blackford Neutral Newbie February 6, 2003 Share February 6, 2003 (edited) Rear wiper is usually for hatch as the rear windscreen has a larger surface area. So rear wiper in the market may not fit the car Edited February 6, 2003 by Blackford
Superseven Neutral Newbie February 8, 2003 Share February 8, 2003 There might not be a space where u can install the rear windscreen wiper as it may obstruct the opening and closing of your boot. Just a thought.
Michel Neutral Newbie February 8, 2003 Share February 8, 2003 If i'm correct, a hatchback needs a rear wiper as water/dirt can splash onto the rear windscreen during the rain when you are on the move becos of the lack of or shorter boot. This splashing may also be due to the aerodynamic of the car where rain water gets pushed down towards the rear windscreen more than a saloon. Hence, IMHO, it is not necessary to install an aftermarket rear wiper. Besides, it may not be asthetically pleasing. My 2 cents worth...
Square_guy Neutral Newbie February 8, 2003 Share February 8, 2003 Hi all, Need some recommendation as to price and place to have a rear wiper installed. My ride is a Sunny 1.5A. Anyone has something similar installed? Is it useful? i think the main reason hatchbacks have the rear wiper is because the rear of the hatchback gets dirty easier. this is due to the aero flow over the car. the 'big backside' disrupt the flow and causes turbulence, and dust gets deposited. E21s Neutral Newbie February 8, 2003 Share February 8, 2003 The reason that rear wiper is installed for bigger surface area is not convincing because March rear panel does not seem to be bigger than a normal 1.6l car with boot. Also the part on the rear getting dirty also doesn't seem right because function of wiper is usually to clear the rain water splashing down so that there is better visibility. It is easier to clean the rear of a hatchback if dirt does accumulate as compared to a car with boot. Maybe it is question of style than anything else ??? Square_guy Neutral Newbie February 9, 2003 Share February 9, 2003 well the part on the rear windscreen getting dirtier was pointed out to me by my fluid dynamics lecturer during uni days, makes sense to me leh. anyway, most cars in other countries do not seems as clean as cars in singapore. reasons being either we take better car, or roads in other countries can be dustier or longer. besides sweeping away water, clearing dirt is equally important. if not why put in a water sprinkler at the rear? if u take a look at long haul coaches, think u can notice that the rear is usually much dustier than say a sedan which has travelled equal distance. Michel Neutral Newbie February 9, 2003 Share February 9, 2003 i guess we can resolve all this 'dispute' by putting a hatchback and a non-hatchback in a wind tunnel. Now, if only we can get access to one.
Blackford Neutral Newbie February 10, 2003 Share February 10, 2003 Alternatively apply Rain X on Rear screen... that way don't even need to turn on heater...
