People would come up with any kind of reasons just to push the blame away from themselves. However, after 6 years assuming your drive 20K/year, your car should register at least 100,000 km . Generally, an automatic trans would last just about 120,000 before an overhault is needed. Considering the cost of parts here, most people would simply go for a recond or second transmission rather than try to repair it. There are headaches when it comes to a repair job unless performed by a truly suitable body.

 

That is one reason why i never like the automatic trans. I would much prefer the Semi-Auto version offered today. My last Corsa 1.2 had a nice semi-auto trans and it served my purpose very well except for one occasion when the solenoid failed. Drove the car for 3 years and 60,000 km without have a second unhappy occurrence.

So I guess the previous owner just did a autobox overhaul b4 he sold it to me ( though it seems strange) as I just about hit 120k KM from time I bought it ( total milage on car was 320K km) when it started to give me trouble.

 

You r right about getting a 2nd hand one but I was not sure if it wud also b a very old one so I went for the overhaul at KATC, which did a reasonably good job.

 

I later found out from scrap yard that their autobox for my 16 yo car is only about 3 yo as they still using this autobox in newer cars in japan. Wud have cost me only $400 incl labout to install as compared to the overhaul which cost me about $2K

 

The semi-auto I u'stand can b quite jerky as it's still new technology & they still r working on the bugs.

 

When it's truly tried & tested, i'm sure I won't mind getting a car with it.

I went back to malaysia and confirm they are using dexron III . By the way is it normal for car to have a bit oil at the bottom under carriage? i notice my front under carriage got little oil?

Depends ! Normally, there should not be any oil at the sump but if you have just changed your oil and the stupid mechanic over pour some on the outside of the engine, then this oil would eventually leak down to the sump of the engine. Other than that, the engine should be dirty but never never oily. If it is, and is always wet, then there is a leak somewhere.

I think that the workshop you went to up north does a shabby job.

 

Used to visit north to service my earlier rides (all 2nd hand ones), after a few years, the 'cheap' factor isn't there anymore as cost of parts at our side is constantly dropping due to demand and competition.

 

Example, engine oil used to be cheap up north but now with promotions and bulk stock from places like Carrefour, it's so much cheaper!

 

Even Soon Yi has a SL 5-40W oil on promo for $38 2 weeks back.

 

Maybe, you can consider 'shifting' back to our side for future works.

Indeed. The only difference is the labour charges.North they got cheaper labour cost.And for the materials,i calculated and there's not much difference.Might consider coming home to do all the works
