Steering wheel vibrates

Usual problems when steering wheels vibrates

 

a. Front wheels not balance, solution on wheel or off wheel

b. wore tyres, physical inspection can tell, less of it.

c. Rims not sitting well on the hub, this is due to the diameter of the spinner(centre) of the rims is larger than the hub, use a plastic, it helps.

d. Back wheels not balance, especially performance car.

e. Damage rims.

Oh yes, sometimes it could be that the rim screw grove was spolit and need replacement.

Yes, absolutely, it is the same as not tightening the nuts....

f. some cars are like that ... for eg. hundyai accent

g. shocks/tires worn out unevenly

 

if car moves in a center line when u let go of the steering on a flat road, it is most likely reason (f) or the rims got problem.

If the steering wheel vibrates when in excess of 120Km/h:

a) is it a usual high speed balancing problem or

b) is it because the front tyres are worn, (less than 20K lifespan)or

c) is it because the rims are mis-aligned?

Do a normal wheel balancing. If that doesn't help, go for a High-Speed wheel balancing. Sometimes, it's not the wheel but the drive shafts. Worn CVs will also contribute to vibration at high speed

You are absolutely right, somehow, I cannot imagine how can someone drives with worn out tyres.

In my case,I did the following:

 

(a) 1st time - it was actually the wheels nuts that needed to be replaced.

(b) 2nd time - did high speed and all okie .. also to watch for proper tyre inflation .. I used to pump too high

© Depends on where u are - on TPE my ride is ok ... but on certain stretches of ECP, the vibration acts up quite noticeable

well, i had this prob wiz my 2nd car. when i go 120, my steering wheel started to "tiao dang".

 

did the following once at a time w TC:-

send for servicing, wheel alignment, computerised check, check suspension kit

finally change the wheels but not suspension kit

 

conclusion: Jipun car is like tat one, yi fen qian yi fen huo unless u r willingly to pay & change part by part

 

I agree with u! its partially coz of the quality of the bushes on the steering rack. Never knew i needed to change them(for performance) until i bought a jap car.
