Neutral Newbie

Hi been driving mine CVT latio for 3 mths.

Some questions though, is it ok to switch to nuetral gear while vehicle is still in cruising.

Will it damage the transmission?

Some ppl say when u come to a stop at the traffic light, keep it to Neutral gear and not in Drive mode

Does it damage your auto transmission ?

(edited)

I was told that in traffic light u put to 'N' so that the transmission not always in 'engaged' mode ('D'). Yr auto gearbox will not be so stress, so lifespan will be longer... dunno how true... dizzy.gif

i believe there are a few disciplines one has to follow when driving an automatic car.

we all know that its easy to drive auto.. just engage and off u go.. but this comes with a price.. its costly to maintain a torn or broken up gearbox and u need ATF cooler and wat not..

to keep ur gearbox in a good condition. pls do not switch gears from D to N and back to D the moment the traffic light hits green.. its very bad for the gearbox. [thumbsdown]

at traffic lights leave the gear to D when u stop and hold on the brake. ppl who have been driving manual cars may be used to shifting back to neutral when they stop. [drivingcar]

so to keep ur gearbox longer in good shape.. just put the foot on the brake for a min.. it wont kill [thumbsup]

regards

CVT stands for Continuously Variable Transmission. Simple explanation is to think of the gears on a bicycle's rear wheel. Normally there are around 5-6 gears, which is like a car's 5-speed or 6-speed gearbox. The lower gears are for accelerating and the higher gears are for going fast.

For CVT, imagine that the bunch of gears is replaced by a cone (and imagine the chain can grip the cone). The chain can move from the small diameter end of the cone to the big diameter end with no steps in between, so the gear ratio is infinitely variable instead of having steps. That's how CVT works.

bro, paddie has explained quite well...mmm...just to add tat for CVT cars, the gear change is much smoother than other auto cars, such tat u do not feel the changing of gears in Auto cars. I have driven an auto sunny b4 and reaali feels the great diff..

OIC.

Thanks Paddie.

BTW, I read somewhere that CVT isn't great when it comes to acceleration...the respond has some lag when u step on the accelerator. Is that true?

Paiseh, v blur. [sweatdrop]

I read that cars equipped with CVT have better fc and the lifespan of the auto tranny is longer. How true is that?
