Based on a review i saw, the handling for this new car is practically the same as the 2nd Gen Mx5. Reason being, the 2nd gen mx5 is pretty much what a roadster should be and their theory is, " Don't fix if it ain't broken "

So the only changes are a new engine and some weight saving materials for the new heavier engine. Of coz, internally, the cabin looks nicer...

it handles well .. looks sexy enough both interior and exterior.. as well as a healthy hp output frm a 2 litre without sacrificing torque..

In europe these are known as "hairdressers" cars, they include....

- BMW Z3/Z4

- MX 5

- MG Roadster or whatever it's called now.

Basically, it's a girls car.

If your a macho bloke, like me :) then do not buy one, get a Lotus Elise or the Opel version, if your a macho bloke but a member of California Fitness then by all means buy one....IMHO.

But not everybody's wallet so macho... MX-5's strength is that it drives superbly well, and it's very very decently priced to boot. Only thing is, it's really not a car for tall people...

i don't know why. but you obviously know why its lousy (you said it) so why don't you tell us why its lousy?

Edit: btw it is still the only sub-premium car with a perfect 50-50 weight distribution. Also, the current MX5 is the 2005-2006 jap car of the year, and aussie car of the year, not to mention 2005's wheels car of the year.

maybe because singapore doesn't have the type of road to truly enjoy such a car.

so, for the same $, you maybe able to get something that is more suitable here.

also, maybe that accident is still fresh on the buyer's mind, though, its the driver's fault.

that would explain some things... singaporeans love hairdresser cars (rice too- i.e. all looks no substance.. at least from a performance stance).

The original MX5 was a dynamically incredible car. however due to cost-cutting, it lost most of that dynamism on the 2nd generation and just looked good, which was saved near the end of its shelf life with the TC version. I havent actually driven the 3rd gen version but from some fellow car enthusiasts who have, its supposed to be a return to being a really good vehicle, esp in the handling stakes.

thats why i put rice too lah [laugh]...

have u seen the number of vios with bodykits??? even those with TC's... they're just good for straightlines (against some stock 4wd or rwd TC cars only), put them on a sharp corner and they'll just understeer themselves into an accident. Then we have our stickered new civics (which are no longer class leading in performance), rollas and sunny's.

the hairdresser types are those who's earn enough to buy cars in the mx5 brackets (e.g. the celica... yes i've noticed quite a few of those around. The 350 is another hairdressers car or rather a boat).

Did i mention the 500bhp evos and sti's with drivers who cant drive the way the car can be driven... what a waste.....

P.S. I've downgraded to a hairdressers car in the Sera. At least i'm not going to try and make it looks fast. First thing to be altered will be suspension and handling bits. Later on down the road if i have enuff $$$ and time i'm thinking of making a b@st@rd engine by mating the 5E block to the Starlet GT's 4E. Should be able to turn the car into a real performace car while pretending to be a hairdressers car [sly]
