Hi guys I just changed to Syn Ace. How does this oil perform? Any moly in there? What's it made up of? PAO/ester/Grp III/ . . . ?

It exceeds MB p229.1 - what does this mean? [:|]

Its also rated SM/A3/GF-4. Now using this coz last minute I couldn't find Castrol SLX. . . or Mobil 1. . . or RP.

Why such a short oil change interval? From what I have read so far, people seems to recommend 5000-7500km for the Synace Max. Which product spec tells you that?

thanks.

(edited)

unless u do 2 trips of highway mostly to work only daily

u should fall into severe operating category

i.e. -hot weather, dusty environment,start/stop traffic, short trips

go for castrol slx

at 80bux vs 66 bux for much *cough* inferior *crap* spec-ed *cough recycled* spc..oil

look at mobil, rated so highly, come to the actual daily use...5000km engine sounds rough like hell

slx in my camry, day 1 till day1+10,000km...same feeling..smooth

[thumbsup]

SPC is very aggressive in pushing their servicing package with lotsa freebies recently. The price for full syn oil change including filter, after subtracting freebies, is closer to $50 for 1.6L cars. At that kind of prices, 5k change also can. Its like the cheap and new spark plugs that last 30,000km vs super duper platinum/iridium plugs that can last 100,000km

I am interested in finding out what is the spec that tells you whether the oil is good or not. For singapore type of driving condition, what is the most import spec or specs to watch out for?

Have used C4 Mobil 1 (silver) in my previous Sunny. Its 5w-30 compared to 10w-50 used at TC last time. Come to think of it engine was a little louder but more rev happy. I always thought it was because of the "lighter" oil that makes the engine louder/rougher.

I understand that MB229.1 (6k miles), MB229.3 (12k miles), MB229.5 (18k miles??) for Benz

and LL.01 is the spec for Beemers.

Looks like the Synace Max 0w-30 is "lower" spec than the Synace 5w-40.

The thin Synace Max is "exceeds 229.1" maybe somewhat more than 6k miles. Thats still a good >10,000km.

Maybe our weather kills the oil faster.

its common knowledge u can recycle oil...

just that the better brands dun do it

http://www.recycleoil.org/

There are many practical uses for used motor oil. A primary use is to rerefine it into a base stock for lubricating oil. This process is very similar to the refining of crude oil. The result is that the rerefined oil is of as high a quality as a virgin oil product. In fact, rerefining used oil takes from 50 to 85 percent less energy than refining crude oil.

A secondary use of the used oil is to burn it for energy. Large industrial boilers can efficiently burn the used oil with minimum pollution. As a result some used oil is sent to power plants or cement kilns to be burned as fuel. On a smaller scale small quantities of used oil are burned in specially designed heaters to provide space heating for small businesses.

so technically there is nothing really bad about recycling ... just like newwater ... apart from the stigma and bad jokes across the border.

Thank you for enlightening me on recyled oil and providing the link. Very useful information to me. [:)]

I wanna try ELF but wondering why do you recommend it?

Also I can't seem to find any ELF fully synthetic around in SG, ok at least in Western side. Practically every small shop sells DINO Castrol Mobil and Shell. [laugh]
